Cecile: Oh man..The Sweet had badass hair!!
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 12:50pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

"Reich & Glass" could be attorneys or a new restaurant in Williiamsburg
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 12:57pm tim from champaign:

Have you guys seen how much Broadcast's vinyl is going for currently?
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 12:57pm robyn:

i may prefer nite jewel's vox on this
  Wed. 10/2/13 12:57pm Eli:

Prophet was from another planet. This shit is nuts.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 12:58pm Duane:

tfc:Oh man..yeah Broadcast vinyl is INSANE! But honestly, it was never ever in the bargain bins. There music was always in demand from the get go.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 1:01pm tim from champaign:

Yeah, definitely Duane. Once the vinyl was gone it was gone. I feel extremely fortunate to have caught Broadcast on their Tender Buttons tour.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 1:02pm tim from champaign:

I wouldn't sell my Broadcast records even if they were going for $500.
  Wed. 10/2/13 1:02pm Darcy:

HAR MAR!! Oh man! One of the few things to make me feel actual nostalgia for my time in Minneapolis and not merely Stockholm syndrome.
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:03pm Cecile:

hahahahahaha, Darcy.
But they got rid of the groovy retro movie theatre there with the private restroom cubicles in the ladie's room. :(
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:03pm Cecile:

Unless you're talking about the performer, then NEVER MIND. :/
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 1:06pm Stau:

Gospelaires is a superb name
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 1:07pm tim from champaign:

Man, another bad ass band from Dayton! What's up with that joint?!?
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 1:08pm Duane:

tfc: *Shrug* even the Gospel is greasy..crazy!
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:12pm duke:

Finally a good version of this song. It was played so much on the local Clear Channels stations that I hated it.
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:13pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Totally underrated Womack album!
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 1:14pm Duane:

di=uke: Yeah this "Moon Shadow" has a lot of interesting choice of cover tunes on it. Worth checking out the whole thing
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 1:14pm Duane:

Jan: This record's underrated??
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:16pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

in some quarters Duane....
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:17pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Some folk feel it's not "classic" womack...
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:18pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

But they be fools!
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 1:18pm Duane:

No Doubt Jan..love this Hancock solo!
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:20pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

I was lucky enough to get to see Womack sing with Gorrilaz when they played MSG a couple of years back
  Wed. 10/2/13 1:26pm Larry Eitel:

Loving the Womack and Commodores. As usual, correcting papers to your great music.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 1:28pm Duane:

Larry: To quote the NBC exec's in 1980. "Hello Larry"!! You like that???
Thanx for checkin in!!!

Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:31pm Cecile:

Bobby's UA years don't get enough respect. At least not over here.
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:33pm duke:

I like this Cinchy mix
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:34pm robyn:

really enjoying this cinchy.
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:34pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

@Cecile: I think they get more props over here, but later UA ones not as much
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:35pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Yeah, this Cinchy is quite nice
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:36pm Mike East:

Q: How do you get to Carnegie Hall?

A: Don't bother, the stage hands are on strike.

Good afternoon, all.
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:36pm Cecile:

True, that. But there are gems on every single one. And not just one or two.
  Wed. 10/2/13 1:39pm Eli:

Whatever. That's not such a great lineup. :)
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:40pm robyn:

your stuff's been a highlight of the show today duane. thumbs up
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:45pm Cecile:

Irwin rarely has a fill in. And last week he was talking about Duane laughing a lot.
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:48pm Cecile:

I gotta go, but great show, Duane!
(this is a happy break, a friend just swung by to take us to lunch.)
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:49pm jmd:

Wow. That cover wild. Never would have guessed it was Hugh Masekela.
  Wed. 10/2/13 1:49pm Eli:

I think I first heard this on a kon and Amir tape in college. Probably bought it at the old fat beats on 6th ave.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 1:49pm Jshatan:

Ooh - I like this Sylvers track!
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 1:49pm Duane:

She was the lead singer of Brasil '66 Jan
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:57pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

No that was my guess... I know who she is ;)
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:58pm steve:

i have yet to hear a bad cover of Tiny Dancer
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 1:58pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

@Steve: Alas I have!
  Wed. 10/2/13 1:59pm Darcy:

She's one of my favorites. My mom loved her.
  Wed. 10/2/13 2:00pm Darcy:

I actually haven't been able to stop with Brasil '66's version of After Midnight of late.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:01pm tim from champaign:

I occasionally help out at the local rekkid store. A few years ago, a customer came up to the counter with a used Elton John record and said "Uh, I found something in the record." I looked in the record jacket and there was a 70s Playgirl centerfold stashed in it.
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 2:01pm steve:

haha, guess its just my luck Jan. im afraid, but tempted, to Google for those bad ones...
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:01pm Duane:

Darcy: that's a good one. "Chelsea Morning" might be my fave
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:03pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

@Steve - did you see Joseph Gordon Levitt do a lip synch of Tiny Dancer on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon? SUPER GOOD.
  Wed. 10/2/13 2:06pm breadharrity:

Duane, you rule!
  Wed. 10/2/13 2:07pm Darcy:

I have weird things with Chelsea Morning - people will throw things at me if I talk about it so I'll leave it at that. But I understand why people dig it.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:07pm Duane:

thank you bread'ren :)
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 2:09pm robyn:

since i just got stuck in a meeting and can't listen to the show live i wanted to mention i re-listened to last week's show this past weekend and it was still pretty dang perfect duane. got "bustin up or bustin out" in my head right now. ha
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:11pm Duane:

Thanx robyn. That's the joint!!
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:13pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

For some reason I just remembered back when Eddie Murphy decided to get serious and put out an actual album, not comedy. Remember that? It was almost like when Michael Jordan decided to play some baseball.
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 2:16pm Cheri Pi:

Duane OMG! I thought you said this was going to be the Eagles, I was literally bracing myself for the end.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:17pm Jshatan:

Killing us with this again!!
  Wed. 10/2/13 2:17pm Larry E:

Too funky. I may not be able to stay at the work station. May have to start dancing in public. LE

Eddie Murphy's -"Whazupwithu" video w/ Michael Jackson maybe one of the best/worst pop culture moments in recent history..everything about it is terrible!

I know I know, I blame KEN for making me so paranoid...
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:21pm tim from champaign:

Boogie in the Butt is a solid jam.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:22pm Duane:

Jan: Yeah it's pretty rare. I'm surprised no one has reissued..or rather officially issued this set. It's some insendiary ish!
"Boogie In your Butt" is Eddie Murphy's best recorded moment. Great Kurtis Blow Parody..spot on!
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:22pm Jshatan:

Yes, Jan, this appears to be the white whale of the Equals discog...
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 2:24pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

I have one track from it, curtesy of a friend, it was b-day present from a few years back...

This is some long train! Would be fun to sit and count the cars on a very long train listening to this.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:28pm Duane:

"How could it be" was a terrible video as well. It was a ballad..yikes!

Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:32pm Duane:

Jan: I love how the host is a sweaty, drunken mess at the end of it
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:32pm Droll:

Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 2:33pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Yeah Duane, It's one of those live albums where you really get close to feeling like you're there
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:37pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

The Equals Party would make an awesome DJ premium.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:38pm Duane:

I once sat amid the whole Kool & The Gang crew on the way back from London in 1982. None of them could figure out how ended up with a seat in their "section" it was fun
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 2:42pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

I sat next to this HUGE guy, he was part of security...
  Wed. 10/2/13 2:45pm Larry E:

Last saw Kool and the Gang in June 1998, performing live in the open air on Wall Street for an IPO for some company - along with Little Anthony and the Imperials, and the Dixie Chicks. They were great.
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 2:47pm robyn:

guess we're not gonna hear your train story, huh duane. or did i miss it
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:47pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

Whenever I see the name Kool and the Gang I always thought that since it is Kool with a K the word Gang should have a different spelling. But then there isn't really another letter that would work. I am sure those guys deliberated for hours on this. A J would not work. Another K certainly not.
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 2:49pm chris:

Rejoicing! Thanks again, Duane!
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:52pm neither:

Kool and the BANG
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 2:53pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Yet another great show Duane!
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:55pm neither:

Guys like Phil Keagy are really a strange type of romantic imagination. I can listen a sort of Disney feeling - birds, love and the victory of desire, so on - throught the hole piano and country stuff.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:55pm tim from champaign:

Yeah, thanks as always Duane! Another successful edition of the Midday Funk Association.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:55pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

I also wonder why they decided not to have Da instead of the.
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:56pm Jshatan:

A funky good time, indeed!
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 2:57pm Duane:

Keaggy's a really imaginative soloist. Yeah, total hippie flowery type soloing
  Wed. 10/2/13 2:57pm Ed Zepole:

Wow, what a monster that last Phil Keagy piece was! I've never heard it before and it just hit me the right way!. What a sweet SG sound. Thanks for the musical hookup Duane!
Avatar    Wed. 10/2/13 2:57pm robyn:

thanks duane!!!

truly he is @duane. I've +fav that

Kool N' Da Gayng?
Avatar Wed. 10/2/13 3:03pm neither:

Fuck, i always have a strange feeling when I listen to brazillian music which I actually never heard of on WFMU. Y'know, things here in brazil sometimes seems to need to travel through the whole ocean and fiber cables whatsoever to reach ourselves.

On the other side, that's the reason why WFMU exists and is so great...

Wonderful show Duane, keep it going!
