DCE: Love Mary Halvorson. That album actually came out on Firehouse 12(?). She uses a lot of whammy, while playing I think.
Avatar 12:16pm
kat330:

@DCE: Yep, and overdue.
@Van: Hey! Are you going west young man, anytime soon?

Yes, Halvorson is sublime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Irene Trudel:

Hi Everybody! Glad you're enjoying the tunes today. @Shaun(uununun), you're right but it's actually both. I'll list the other though.

Oh hi kat, just saw your question...you never know. I keep trying and wanting to, and I've been tantalized recently by someone telling me to hold on for something soon in the Dallas area...

Well, best of luck to you, Van. I'll say a little prayer as a member of the congregation of the Everlasting Light of Hope. ;)

@Kat, I think we could be heading into a possible Indian Summer, weather looking decent for the week. @Steve, that BoC track was a cracker

Wonder if Coryell came up with that title when at the dentist .. or while brushing his teeth.

@doca: Um, my pretend, personal church. :)

Sean in Bristol UK:

@Kat, just going of on a non-musical tangent and I know you will be watching this sometime in the near future but episode 14 of Breaking Bad which was shown last Sunday was in my humble opinion the best hour of television I have ever seen, this series has gone through the stratosphere,
Avatar 12:39pm
doca:

You mean as personal-only-to-you-church or your personal religion? I like personal churches as in that first sense of the word, and yours has a specially beautiful name
Avatar 12:40pm
kat330:

Ooooh, Sean, yes, please tread carefully here! I was listening to a local station on Saturday when a DJ started talking about last Sunday's BB on his mic break, and I didn't take any chances. Turned it off for a few just to be on the safe side. Guess he was mic Break-ing bad for me. :)

@doca: As in your first part. I've strayed several times over the decades, when it seemed the world was a hopeless place, but somehow I always return. Here's a link to a Pastis piece that pretty much sums me up: tinyurl.com...

@kat330: hahah great, I guess the personal churches are the only way to be a happy disappoptimist.
But we sure could all pray to John Coltrane
Avatar 12:58pm
kat330:

@Davee: Well, I was a die-hard optimist growing up and a staunch environmentalist. Then the late 60s assassinations and then the Reagan administration and well, sh*t happens.
Avatar 12:58pm
doca:

there's a cartoon by Laerte, a brazilian cartoonist, from his series on God where there's a woman crying and she finds Him and she gets angry that He could not lend a hand to her. So God replies: "If you can't have my hand, at least I could offer you my shoulder". I always thought that was a very poignant view of religion, specially personal ones.
Avatar 12:59pm
kat330:

Yeah, let's all get on the Coltrane soul train -- whooooo-hoooo! :)

@Irene: From your playlist so far, one might wonder if it's your anniversary or somesuch? It's most love-ly whatever the inspiration.
Avatar 1:01pm
Shaun(ununun):

I've been away, making brunch flax pancakes.

Irene: I had a feeling Improvised Communications had to have been involved with the album for you to list it but I couldn't find anything querying it on DDG. But they did blog on their wordpress about her being in the Firehouse studio for that record. I just know that she's a resident artist for the Firehouse 12 label and all of her trio/quintet/ and now septet releases have come out via them.
Avatar 1:03pm
doca:

@shaun: I guess maybe the CD version came out by Firehouse 12 and the LP on some other label. F12 don't usually releases LP's (vinyls), but they're doing it for some of Mary Halvorson's releases.

Off-balance on (or near) the Equinox?
Avatar 1:36pm
Shaun(ununun):

@doca: They did an LP for Bending Bridges(firehouse12records.com..., maybe Improvised is behind the pressing?). And for the new 'Illusionary Sea" as well (I wanted that one badly but settle for getting the CD)!

IMO, a cello line improves most any song.
Avatar 1:48pm
the glowing one:

fully agree, gives it a chamber music feeling which fits folk better than orchestral strings, which are too "grandiose" imho
Avatar 1:49pm
kat330:

Really wish I'd had the opportunity to learn cello as a child. The synth cello sound on my keyboard just doesn't cut it. :/
Avatar 1:51pm

Cello is such a beautiful instrument, it's so versatile and balanced.
Avatar 1:54pm
kat330:

On some playlist months back, I mentioned that (for me) the cello most closely emulates the human voice. Someone countered that, no, it's the saxophone. I granted a touché, but then riposted, the cello most closely emulates a human voice that's been liquor and smoke-free. :)

"The violin is an instrument that is said to be much like the human voice, and in this musician's masterly hands, it sobbed and laughed and sang -- ecstatic, sorrowful, importuning, adoring, flirtatious, castigating, playful, romancing, merry, triumphal, sumptuous. "

So, a few nights ago, I literally had a dream where I was at a record fair and came across a FMU rack of records, and two Irene Trudel marathon vinyl LP premiums (do those even exist?) might as well have been shining in gold at me.
