4'33" on a 33 1/3 played at 45
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 3:47pm Loren:

I wonder if Station Manager Ken would have fit if Fabio played 4'33"?
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 3:49pm davex:

@Morton: Now you're talking!
@Loren: A lot of people probably would.
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 3:52pm Ike:

I heard there is (or used to be?) something at FMU called The Robot that would get upset and call the DJ if there was more than x seconds of silence. But a live version of 4'33" with lots of coughing and other audience racket would be fine. I think Kenny G. used to play one, maybe?
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 3:53pm steve:

from the internet: Originally entitled “Performance Mix” it was later renamed in honor of Cage’s Italian landlady Signora Fontana.
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 3:54pm Loren:

What does a radio-friendly version of 4'33" sound like?.. tummy grumbles, flatulence, squeaking chairs, Scott Williams wrestling with Fabio, sinus congestion...
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 3:55pm steve:

Ike - vaguely related, i remember when Kenny G did Hour of Pain he did at least one full hour of total silence. at the beginning of the hour he recounted discussing his plans to do so with Station Manager Ken. dont remember hearing about The Robot but i barely remember it
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 3:55pm Loren:

I always thought it was in some reference to Lucio Fontana...

Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 4:33pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i caught a touring exhibit in prague last year, film and music installations plus tribute works by loads of other composers. and a beautiful film of merce c in his wheelchair following dance instructions written by cage with paint on the wheels so he could leave a trail on the paper-covered floor.
  Thu. 9/5/13 4:33pm Morton:

Yep. "It's All Too Much", YS. "Within You, Without You", Sgt. Pepper's.
NOT "I Me Mine", that was a short session extended by Phil Spector, not a good one!
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 5:32pm glenn:

even though paul plays the solo on taxman.
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 5:32pm Matt from Springfield:

All Things Must Pass!! That's the peak of George songs. So so so very many wonderful spiritual rock songs on that. A *good* Phil Spector contribution.
  Thu. 9/5/13 5:33pm dc waters:

"Don't Bother Me" is a very early Harrison that's a fave of mine.
  Thu. 9/5/13 5:34pm nic:

it was a super show
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 5:34pm Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: One of Paul's very best guitar solos! "Dear Prudence" or "Back in the USSR" probably has his best drumming (with The Beatles anyway).
  Thu. 9/5/13 5:34pm reno:

Fabio, Clay's deliberately wasting a sixth of your show.
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 5:35pm Matt from Springfield:

  Thu. 9/5/13 5:38pm J-nO:

Clay has his own show, which sucks. Why does he get to waste your time, as well? Give him the boot.
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 5:38pm Matt from Springfield:

@fleep: That's actually part of my imagined idealistic "peace settlement" for Syria--split into 4 or more countries, the Alawites/Shiites have their own state, but Assad must be exiled to Russia or someplace similar.
Avatar Thu. 9/5/13 5:38pm Berg:

French not being nice to Americans? That's unheard of..
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 5:39pm glenn:

the big problem, as i see it, is that about 5 minutes after nato bombs syria, assad will unleash chemical weapon hell on the citizens of syria.

Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 5:48pm Droll:

Oh, new bed music drummer, who are you?!
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 5:48pm Matt from Springfield:

@tired: That's a very relevant movie for the Mideast situation. I watched that in a philosophy class, as it represents both existentialism and reincarnation well.
Avatar    Thu. 9/5/13 5:49pm Ike:

There IS a lot of heavy breathing. Or maybe it just seems that way because it's memorable.
