Apparently, we're in for a sweaty, summer-night jam.

Now it's time for the funk!

The Shabazzes are on their way to Toronto tomorrow with "100% Cancon" for the road sountrack.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 9:19pm efd:

Hey everyone! Had some heavy jams to get out of my system in the early going here... a tribute set to the late Faye Hunter (Let's Active, etc.) is coming up in about 10 minutes.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 9:21pm Droll:

I forgot Mark Bell was in dust -- great playing, great sounding reissue!

strong contender for reissue of the year!
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 9:25pm Droll:

EFD, I'm still waiting for you to play this during a H&M...
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 9:26pm efd:

I keep trying to get someone to sing it! I want to play drums on it, not sing.
  Wed. 7/31/13 9:27pm drewo:

Listening live out in the desert. Love the Aphrodite's Child! Sadly parted with that record long ago. Great to hear it again.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 9:35pm Holly in NC:

Hi efd & fellow funk fans! here for real 11ish - need to finish up current job & then go give a cat an insulin shot.

LOVE this aphrodite's child cut.
  Wed. 7/31/13 9:36pm john:

Hey Evan! Come on, sing and play drums. Channel your inner Phil Collins.

Hi Evan!! just got back & missed 'Medusa the Seducer'!! omg, it's been over 40 years since I've heard that one... will have to wait for the archive ;(.
thanks so much Evan, you rock!
  Wed. 7/31/13 9:50pm PB:

Speaking of Grant Hart, he has a brand new CD, just released.
  Wed. 7/31/13 9:52pm Patro:

I saw Let's Active at the Pyramid Club around '83 or '84. They had a song where they screamed whenever the word 'stuff' was sung.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 9:53pm Holly in NC:

efd, can't wait to visit archives to listen to Faye Hunter tribute. I've been pulling out & looking at my Let's Active vinyl all week (if I'd ever stop doing stupid things like totalling cars I'd have fixed my turntable ages ago..)
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 9:59pm efd:

Hi Holly - hope all goes well with that diabetic kitty. Loretta, sorry you missed it! It's the archives for you for sure!

Hi Patro, PB, john, drewo and everyone - thanks for tuning in tonight.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:02pm Dave B:

I listen, albeit silently of late!
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:03pm Holly in NC:

Did NOT know Faye H. played flute on Sneakers lp. Nice.

I'm here to see how many more Red Sox fans I can piss off tonight.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:18pm Uncle Michael:

One little joke about Pedroia needing to find a safer place to sit...I tell ya...
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:18pm kevin g:

I absolutely love those first two Let's Active records. I was gutted when I first saw this story pop up. So sad.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:22pm efd:

I missed the original joke I guess, but there's no need to repeat it. ;)
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:26pm Uncle Michael:

I assume you saw Dustin taking phone shrapnel from Ortiz' recent outburst.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:27pm efd:

I did, yes.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:33pm Minnesota Jeff:

This song is real nice.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:33pm Uncle Michael:

I find this kind of relaxed pop very relaxing. I think the artist I listened to in the early '90s most in this vein was Tommy Keene.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:38pm Barkevious Shabazz:

Christ, a donkey sanctuary. What a sweetheart.
  Wed. 7/31/13 10:43pm trish:

Thank you for sharing that tribute, Evan.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:47pm efd:

You're welcome, Trish. It was something I had to do.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:54pm Stevel:

Wonderful reminder to not assume everyone else is OK. If you're not sure, take a chance. Ask, and listen. You don't have to have all of the answers.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:55pm Uncle Michael:

My wife was her mother's caregiver to the end. I know how hard that can be.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:57pm Stevel:

Uncle Michael: So many issues, so much work. Its easy to neglect your own health, physical and mental.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 10:59pm Uncle Michael:

It took a real toll, physically and emotionally. She was a hero.
Wed. 7/31/13 11:04pm some other guy:

Google says "far away from town" = "långt bort från stan"
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:04pm Stevel:

No doubt. Years back, my Dad (who since passed quickly and quietly) made me promise NOT to take him into our home if that day ever came. His grandmother came to their home for her last year or two and he never forgot the toll it took on both of his parents.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:06pm Barkevious Shabazz:

I was asked today what my entrance song would be if I were a baseball player. And my immediate response was "Headknocker" by Foreigner. I stand by it.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:07pm Uncle Michael:

Mine would be Hikky Burr by Quincy Jones and Bill Cosby.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:10pm Stevel:

With my lack of sporting history and prowess, mine would be "You Can't Always Get What You Want."
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I would not expect a band named 'menswear' to make me think of the MC5 - glad they do!
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:19pm Holly in NC:

Back! Catching up -
SUPERB Let's Active video here:

If I didn't dislike Metallica the people so much, I'd totally enter to "Am I Evil". Totally. Dude.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:24pm kevin g:

I actually just discovered that Faye Hunter and Mitch Easter appear in this video for the Cosmopolitan's "(How To Keep Your) Husband Happy" www.youtube.com... Never even knew there was a video for the song.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:25pm Droll:

Holly, Rickenbackers and puppies and big poofy hair!!!
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:27pm efd:

@keving, yes, well, ahem, that would be Your DJ on drums in that video.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:29pm Holly in NC:

@keving -
THAT is amazing.. wait - wha? efd, seriously?

@Droll :-)
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:30pm Barkevious Shabazz:

Saw that cosmos video about 6 mos ago because I luv the song. Need to revisit.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:32pm Uncle Michael:

check it.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:32pm efd:

long story short - my NYU friend Mike Dugan made the video with Mitch and Faye in early 1981 (pre-MTV, I might add). I helped him out, which is how I first met Faye AND how I wound up playing drums with the Cosmops for a good chunk of 1981 -- including an appearance on the Uncle Floyd show, which was later added to Mike's original video.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:34pm Stevel:

Nice. Pre-MTV FTW! (as well as impressive drum nerdyness.)
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:36pm efd:

I should point out that Mitch Easter played drums on that recording, not me.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:37pm kevin g:

@EFD Wow! Super cool! Tonight is full of little discoveries for me, it would seem. I really love that video.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:39pm Droll:

EFD, If you spent '81 playing new wave, when were you in the mixed-gender AC/DC tribute band? Any videos of that?
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:39pm Uncle Michael:

An old acquaintance of mine is the drummer with The Jayhawks. He doesn't play on the hit...but he plays on the video for the hit. He joined the band between the recording of the album and the video shoot.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:45pm Holly in NC:

efd, my head is truly exploded.

Is this you in this photo?

Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:47pm Peteski:

Oh boy.
  Wed. 7/31/13 11:48pm trish:

@efd Heh!
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:48pm Droll:

Holly, That drummer is leftie, Evan's a rightie. I wonder who that is...
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:51pm efd:

that's Will Rigby from the dB's!
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:52pm Holly in NC:

efd, I really like Transistors, but I thought you were going to stay in 80s mode & play Translator! Oh, do play Translator!

Will Rigby. Wow.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:54pm efd:

bad request timing, Holly! :D
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:54pm Stevel:

Other Transistors. Late 70's pop-punk from Denver.

...and Translator. Oooohh!
  Wed. 7/31/13 11:55pm Papilicious:

Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:55pm efd:

Droll, I was in the AC/DC cover band around 2000-2003ish. No video that I know of, unfortunately.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:56pm Uncle Michael:

Fine show, Evan...thanks for feeding my ears.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:57pm efd:

Thanks Michael, thanks everyone for listening tonight!
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:57pm Stevel:

Holly: WHo loves ya?

  Wed. 7/31/13 11:58pm 12539:

Thanks, efd. Good show, good tribute.
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:58pm Stevel:

Great show, right to the end!
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:58pm Holly in NC:

Thank YOU, efd
Avatar Wed. 7/31/13 11:59pm Holly in NC:
