A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

I gotta say, and people will hate me for it, but I think Rob Base and DJ EZ ROck really elevated that break.

Hey Trouble, thanks for playing ESG: brought me back to 99 Records on McDougal Street 30 years ago = moody, in a good way!

Avatar Tue. 7/2/13 10:51am johnforz:

to be fair.... when those records were first sampled, it was a pretty creative thing. i think at this point, it's a reference back to those early days, but i agree, it's tired
  Tue. 7/2/13 10:51am Cecile:

that's a bit reductionist.
  Tue. 7/2/13 10:51am Cecile:

Or as Daddy-O said "Rap brings out old R'n'B/If we had not/You would have forgot."

Avatar Tue. 7/2/13 10:52am northguineahills:

Well, I found an error. it was attributed to being in Brooklyn, while it's on E 128 St & 2nd Ave.
  Tue. 7/2/13 10:53am Cecile:

I agree there are unimaginative people out there. but the best people use samples as seasoning, not the whole meal.

Labor question: My sinister boss, possibly low on digital tasks, is basically turning me into a janitor; maybe trying to make me quit. He hates UI. Isn't UI out of a payroll insurance fund in NY, tho? He doesn't contribute extra for each person claiming UI, does he? (It's an LLC.)

This show is helping my sanity, so thanks DJ.

Avatar Tue. 7/2/13 11:49am northguineahills:

I believe a LLC would contribute to UI. My last two jobs I received UI was a Fed job and a freelance job for a large marketing firm that was incorporated. So, that's all I know off the top of my head.
Avatar Tue. 7/2/13 11:53am βrian:

"I'm a fugitive from slumber." Damn, I know that's right.
Avatar Tue. 7/2/13 11:56am northguineahills:

One can't collect UI if one quits. Either the contract has to expire, one has to be let go to be ableto collect. If you're fired, it depends on the company whether they will or not.
Avatar Tue. 7/2/13 11:57am northguineahills:

...and it's not leeching, as you pay from your own paycheck (in the state of New York) into the general unemployment fund, which determines how much and for how long you can collect.
Avatar Tue. 7/2/13 11:58am northguineahills:

Thanks Trouble and Icepack!

  Tue. 7/2/13 12:15pm Stau!:

You're paying into a fund for the purpose of helping people that are truly in need because they can't find a job, not because they just don't happen to like their current job. You're not paying into a fund that should be viewed as your own piggy bank.
