morning, folks. let's talk not about the weather, but about the "whether".
  Fri. 2/8/13 9:08am common:

why does philly always get shunned by the snow?
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 9:11am fred:

Talking about the weather? Try these ones: wfmu.org... and wfmu.org...

hey fred what's with the avatar? :)

@FVH: It's a bit of Mircea Cantor's take on Ann Lee
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 9:15am Stirring the Pot:

@DCE: "whether " is binary but isn't the universe one?
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 9:20am fred:

Thanks Scott! I'm actually reading his Uncreative Writing these days, and I love it so far

Basically musicals where the lyrics are the childhood memories of one of the musicians as told over the phone, word for word
Avatar Fri. 2/8/13 9:33am jdelz:

DCE - I really wanted to be there but was stuck at band practice. Love that drummer!
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 9:34am DCE:

oh man, they were both fantastic!
  Fri. 2/8/13 9:40am Frank:

I'm guessing Kenny originally read this report on a day like this
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 9:43am fred:

@Frank: it once served as his review of the year, broadcast over two shows, the last one of that year and the first of the next. I think it's also one of his books
  Fri. 2/8/13 9:47am Chhh:

Your miscued record worked very well together with my flatmates video of a laptop orchestra he was watching at the same time. Only happy accidents.
  Fri. 2/8/13 9:47am Marmalade Kitty:

I love snow. I think you are all lucky if snow is coming your way!
  Fri. 2/8/13 9:47am Frank:

fred, good god, did it last the entire length of the show? he did that once with some tax code
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 9:49am fred:

@Frank: it lasted for the entire length of two shows. I linked to the archives in a comment at 9:11
  Fri. 2/8/13 9:49am Marmalade Kitty:

I mean the really deep stuff. not that wet stuff..

  Fri. 2/8/13 10:21am paula pc:

nice mixing...perfect song for this am
Avatar Fri. 2/8/13 10:24am Jennique:

I never pictured Stephin Merritt as a Johnny Cash-type singer, but it really is nice.
Avatar Fri. 2/8/13 10:34am G:

Currently in central BK, a light rain/sleet mix.

Real storm starts midafternoon into overnight.

The big snow will be in rural/suburban areas north of NYC -- Boston is the big city it will probably really hit.

I'm not using those Dungeons and Dragons or WoW names the Weather Channel (US cable tv) started making up for winter storms after the Halloween Hurricane -- Athena, Nemo, etc. The official storm recording people (NOAA, NWS) say those names are BS. It's just easier to hype up ratings with a named storm than an unnamed one.
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 10:36am BSI:

Yeh, was afraid of that. Flying into boston & driving a rental north from there. So everyone has until Sunday afternoon to clean that sheeeeit up good & proper.
Avatar Fri. 2/8/13 10:39am @sean808080:

Nemo™ (® The Weather Channel Enterprises, Inc., 2013 All rights reserved)
Avatar Fri. 2/8/13 10:47am G:

wiki article on weather channel (there are footnotes in the original): "Beginning in the fall of 2012, the Weather Channel has named major winter storms. It officially named the nor'easter that hit the East Coast of the United States in November 2012 after the Greek goddess Athena. In response, the National Weather Service announced on November 7, 2012 that it would not recognize the Weather Channel’s name for winter storms, stating in a press release that "it does not use the name of winter storms"... "
  Fri. 2/8/13 10:51am Frank:

I'm betting on the MK forecast
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 10:51am Jeff:

Stoopid Weather Channel.

Stoopid other media repeating their invalid storm names.
Avatar Fri. 2/8/13 10:56am fleep:

They could sell the naming rights for a little extra revenue. Winter Storm Pringles. Winter Storm Lysol.
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 10:58am Jeff:

Lysol just sounds like a drag queen.
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 10:58am stefica:

@sean808080: is that a command or a report?
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 11:00am Ken From Hyde Park:

At what point will they begin naming summertime thunderstorms?
Avatar Fri. 2/8/13 11:02am G:

"After the break, we'll bring you a complete update on Possible Tornado Outbreak Thor."
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 11:04am BSI:

Following the example of urban "adopt a bus stop" programs, I could see an opportunity for Hurricane BSI, etc... I always wanted to beat the hell out of south Florida.
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 11:15am Mike East:

oh, that Petra Haden. Bless her.
Avatar Fri. 2/8/13 11:15am jeremy:

my volume is at 11 with this Haden track
Avatar Fri. 2/8/13 11:16am Jennique:

I am going to favorite/star this Superman Theme song. LOVE IT.
  Fri. 2/8/13 11:16am Cecile:

hahha. bless her heart.
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 11:18am BSI:

Sudden urge to layer this Petra Haden piece over the Dylan Nyoukis bit Fabio played yesterday. Simmer over medium heat, serve with papadum & chutney.
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 11:23am Ike:

Mmm, papadum.
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 11:23am Jeff:

I was in the kitchen listening, and all of a sudden it was like, "Hey, this sounds just like when that Haden lady did the whole Who record a capella, except... Superman.

And that's what it was. Excellent.
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 11:29am Ken From Hyde Park:

The weather report broadcast is like a WFMU Aircheck show from a few years ago.
Fri. 2/8/13 11:41am Yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Israel,Earth,Milky Way):

Canoochi was a brilliant track
Fri. 2/8/13 11:41am Yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Israel,Earth,Milky Way):

How is everybody this Friday evening?
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 11:42am Marshall Stacks:

Oh how we miss Kenny G.
  Fri. 2/8/13 11:44am Marmalade Kitty:

last year in the Uk there was a government inquest into why an inch of snow was allowed to bring services and the country to a halt..
Avatar    Fri. 2/8/13 11:46am Mike East:

Feeling even in the morning, Yair.
  Fri. 2/8/13 11:56am Marmalade Kitty:

cant seem to find the info on that inquest :) I seem to remember something along those lines.. a proposal..?
  Fri. 2/8/13 11:59am ian:

Stupid weather! I was going to see Jeff Mangum in Providence on Sunday, but my bus has already been cancelled.. guess we will have to see what shakes out.
  Fri. 2/8/13 11:59am Marmalade Kitty:

maybe it was hidden by a light dusting of snow
  Fri. 2/8/13 11:59am Adam Holloway:
