Scratchy vanity 45s, pilfered field recordings, muddy off-the-radio sounds, homemade congregational tapes and vintage commercial gospel throw-downs; a little preachin', a little salvation, a little audio tomfoolery.

Hi Kevin, Happy New Year!
Avatar Thu. 1/3/13 8:04pm sinner:

Happy, Happy!
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:06pm G:

do NOT P-L-A-Y on this radio!
Avatar Thu. 1/3/13 8:07pm sinner:

...we all can joke and kid around. Yes. But you are correct. We will never P L A Y on this radio.....
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:07pm Dave E::

Can we P-R-A-Y on this radio?
Avatar Thu. 1/3/13 8:07pm sinner:

...by all means....
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:09pm Dave E::

This is a neat tune . . . by the Burnadettes I mean.
Avatar Thu. 1/3/13 8:11pm sinner:

A bunch of unreleased Motown gospel was made available as download only a few weeks ago. Great stuff.
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:15pm Dave E::

1928! That's a while back there, great stuff.
Avatar Thu. 1/3/13 8:17pm sinner:

All of that Birmingham / Jefferson County quartet stuff from the 1920s and 30s is great.
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:18pm Dave E::

I often wonder how many of these folks are still alive.
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:20pm Dave E::

My radio needs power in order to play!
Avatar Thu. 1/3/13 8:20pm sinner:

Pre-war? None. Watch for the definitive document on the Birmingham quartet scene coming in the spring, a 3 CD box set of 66 tracks. 30 page liner notes. The New Birmingham Quartet Anthology.
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:22pm Dave E::

I'm sure even some of the fifties and sixties recordings - most have passed.
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:23pm G:

If someone was old enough to sing in 1928, that person is dead now.

1950s/60s performers could go either way here in 2012 -- we're 50-60 years past their performances now, and everyone is therefore either on Social Security or singing in The Choir Eternal.
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:24pm Dave E::

I wasn't referring to '28 specifically; pass the carrots!
Avatar Thu. 1/3/13 8:24pm sinner:

Killer book coming next month, To Do This You Must Know How by Lynn Abbott and Doug Seroff. Tons of information on the pre-war quartet scene, especially in Alabama.
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:27pm Dave E::

Kevin's progam takes me to the edge of spiritual motivation!
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:28pm Dave E::

Songbirds of the South sound great and a good year too. Did they record many albums?
Avatar Thu. 1/3/13 8:29pm sinner:

Songbirds recorded only one 45.
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:31pm Dave E::

Ty, and that's too bad.
Avatar Thu. 1/3/13 8:33pm sinner:

There was another Songbirds of the South who were from Memphis. great group but they never recorded, only sme WDIA transcription tracks out on a Rounder comp.
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:37pm Born again Pagan:

Lovin the sounds!!!
Avatar Thu. 1/3/13 8:39pm sinner:

Yes, yes. Take a load off.
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:42pm Dave E::

Tie your puppy to a tree!
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:49pm Dave E::

Always enjoy your variety of gospel music; thank you for working so diligently to find new "old" stuff!
Avatar Thu. 1/3/13 8:52pm sinner:

At your service! Delighted.
  Thu. 1/3/13 8:53pm professor natural:
