Phillip in San Antonio:

Epic beginning to a landmark show!
  3:10pm
sFrances:

Hooray! I've been waiting for this, even postponed plans with a friend today to enjoy it!
  3:10pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

Very much luck on Voicebunny Clay!
  3:11pm
Caryn:

Hang on, were those two songs that were played before the playlist came up part of the duel? Because I'd give both 9 points.
  3:11pm
ShawnJ:

You know it's going to be an interesting show when it opens with the Finnish version of 'Mr. Giant Man
  3:11pm
duke:

bring it on!
  3:11pm
DCE:

always up for a dogfight between these two giants
  3:11pm
Cheri Pi:

Cincinnati checking in!
  3:12pm
DCE:

however, I'm on hold now and not able to hear anything but hold music
  3:12pm
ShawnJ:

You know you're in for an interesting show when it opens with the Finnish version of 'Mr. Giant Man'
  3:13pm
Hold Music:

Your call is important to us, and will be answered in the order received. All our DJs are busy right now spinning other discs.
  3:13pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

I thought Fabio was a vegetarian. No frogs.
  3:13pm
Julian:

Hurray!
  3:13pm
pierre:

Clay Pigeon, It make total sense that you'd have something to do with the Thinker !!

Paris's chinatown's indeed listening !
  3:13pm
ShawnJ:

Sorry about the Double post, the Comment list is lagging here.
  3:13pm
Cheri Pi:

Big props for Seeds!!
  3:14pm
Timb:

Excited about the epic DJ battle! Listening from Fort Lauderdale.
  3:15pm
Chinchilla:

Diggin the heels in for the long haul- perfect dj block to accompany my mound of homework, i'm incredibly excited
  3:15pm
pierre:

love that keyboard / guitar line, how do we vote ?!

should i just say "+1 for Clay" like i used to do, or did the rules changed ?
  3:16pm
Cheri Pi:

Pink FLoyd for the win!!!
  3:16pm
DCE:

ooooh 10 points for Floyd
  3:16pm
Caryn:

Give Seeds an 8.
  3:16pm
Timb:

Seeds 9 / Syd's Floyd 10. Strong opening round.
  3:16pm
DCE:

oddly I've been hearing a LOT of this tune on my local college station too lately
  3:17pm
Tony:

Seeds 6/10
Anything from Piper is great, but this is probably the worst track on the album = 5/10
  3:17pm
Chinchilla:

wait so did the intro count? I just tuned in. I'm taking Pink Floyd over Seeds but great round
  3:17pm
DCE:

Seeds 7, maybe a little obvious but still a great tune
  3:17pm
duke:

Tough one. I like that seeds song and I like this floyd tune. 10 points each
  3:18pm
pierre:

+2 the seeds
+1 for Pink Floyd
  3:18pm
dollar pizza:

thanks for bringing us back, clay. way back...
  3:18pm
jim in denver:

6 points for the seeds, 9 points for Floyd
  3:19pm
dollar pizza:

must've been my college radio station when -I- was in college when I last heard this. (or more likely, the "tape deck" in my car)
  3:19pm
12539:

Seeds +4, Floyd +6
  3:19pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

So this would be Pink Floyd's impression of Martin Denny right?
  3:20pm
sFrances:

So far I give Fabio +10 for James Last (I always love hearing that version) & I hate to say it Clay, but *minus*10 for the Seeds, too easy! And that's also minus 10 for Roxy (easy) and +3 for Floyd.
  3:20pm
dollar pizza:

c'mon everybody admit it. we've all got a bit of Clay in us...
  3:21pm
dcp@:

wait, who played what? Never thought I'd say that...
  3:21pm
sFrances:

OH HELL YEAH, 20 for 20/20!! haven't heard in forevs.
  3:21pm
12539:

Score the song, not the DJ.
  3:21pm
DCE:

you can't give points for Giant Man. YOU CAN'T GIVE POINTS FOR GIANT MAN!!
  3:22pm
duke:

I'll bet Clay will try and count 20 for this by his accounting system, but 20/20 = 1.
  3:22pm
DCE:

I've never heard of 20/20, but the tune is pretty cool. I'll give it a cool 6.
  3:22pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

Where's Matt from Springfield?
  3:22pm
popo:

this sucks
  3:23pm
jim in denver:

But the Giants are winning 6-3
  3:23pm
dcp@:

Roxy: 2; Seeds: 8 (easy but still); PF: 7; 20/20: 3

Yeah no scoring for the theme song.
  3:23pm
duke:

Who is keeping score?
  3:24pm
dcp@:

oh. didn't see the comments there...
  3:24pm
Caryn:

Floyd get a 5, 20/20 a 4. And would you change the artist and title of "Mr. Giant Man" to Koivistolaiset and "Jättiläinen". As a Finn, Vexi Salmi deserves his due.
  3:24pm
octy:

the Seeds are always loved, 10 points (weighing in late here)
  3:24pm
12539:

20/20 + 5
  3:25pm
Cheri Pi:

Oh god, this is a tie!!!
  3:25pm
sFrances:

Magazine +5
  3:25pm
Cheri Pi:

although Magazine gets a bigger rise out of me.
  3:25pm
dcp@:

Magazine (never liked 'em): 2
  3:25pm
DCE:

I agree CP...these two songs are quite evenly matched
  3:26pm
pierre:

20/20 + 3
magazine + 2
  3:26pm
Julian:

Sooo much indie pandering by Fab. +16 combined for Fab's stuff so far, +17 for Clay's two songs.
  3:26pm
12539:

Magazine +6
  3:26pm
Chinchilla:

I'll give Seeds +7, liked that one.
P.F. gets an 8,
20/20 +2
Magazine +6
  3:26pm
DCE:

(scorekeeper: that's 6 from me for Magazine)
  3:26pm
duke:

Magazine 1
  3:27pm
Caryn:

Magazine gets a 3.
  3:28pm
pierre:

+1 more point to magazine (because it sounds like they sing in french, yeah, sorry, what can i say it always amuses me to hear my language broadcasted from New-Jersey).
  3:28pm
DCE:

where's the auditor??
  3:28pm
monte:

aw crap, we gotta score again? Nice seeds song, maybe Clay's thinking about the audience. Go Failure!
  3:29pm
dcp@:

I'm tempted to add another point for Magazine too because of that killer guitar....but I won't...
  3:29pm
Pigeon Math:

it's a miracle... everything is all tied up
  3:29pm
Pigeon Math:

it's a miracle... everything is all tied up
  3:30pm
Julian:

+7 for Magazine
  3:30pm
Cheri Pi:

20/20=6/ magaine= 8
  3:31pm
DCE:

of course Cleveland is in the house. (the house has been repo'd, but that's how it goes)
  3:32pm
Timb:

5/5 last round
  3:33pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

What is the scoring system like in this game?? Is it like the old pinball machines from the 1950's when a high score of 300 was great, or the pinball machines that run up to 999 trillion.
  3:34pm
Caryn:

Why are you having rounds with one person having an extra song in? Unless every round is uneven like that, it seems weird.
  3:34pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Saga!
  3:34pm
Lou:

triumph!!!! yeah baby
  3:35pm
MenfussMike:

10 points for this canadian gem. Loverboy Clay?
  3:35pm
Lou:

sorry i used to get triumph and saga confused
  3:35pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

Thats major inflation.
  3:35pm
dcp@:

yeah really Phillip, I'll never forget the first time I hit a million on a pinball machine. I was psyched. Then a year later people were hitting a billion.

What ever stupid song this is gets ZEEERO.
  3:35pm
Chinchilla:

I think the real bottom line is just a number for every song you can, I don't think the 1 on 1 match ups are as important...
  3:35pm
DCE:

puke, 0.
  3:36pm
dcp@:

to be clear, Saga: 0 (c'mon Clay!)
  3:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

Finally made it to the comments!
So...where's our scorekeeper? Raise your hand!
  3:36pm
Chinchilla:

Saga gets a little bit of love on the sheer 80's energy meter reading... +3
  3:36pm
Shadowplaid:

Saga!!! 9 points!!!
  3:36pm
Pidge:

I'm keeping score. Don't worry. COmpletely on the up and up.
  3:36pm
duke:

saga +1 No, sorry.
  3:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

+5 for "On The Loose". Lyrically simple, but good rock arrangements.
  3:36pm
sFrances:

As soon I hear a song I've not heard before, it gets a +10, if I love +20!
HI MATT! WHere's Marmalade? Julie?
  3:37pm
Chinchilla:

@Matt, sounds like Clay is Keeper of the Score
  3:37pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

This song gets 5 points for the goofy beginning that makes me laugh.
  3:37pm
dinatekno:

Saga=0. Major suckage.
  3:37pm
monte:

yeah, I can't give this any points either. 0. Fabio, don't miss this opportunity.
  3:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Shawn: YES! I was listening to the start without commenting, Fab usually saves the Finnish "Mr. Giant Man" for these Battles!
  3:37pm
Miss Marly:

Love the Saga, Clay!
  3:37pm
Caryn:

@Chinchilla: I'm not concerned about 1 on 1 match-ups, but worried that in the end, one DJ will have played one or more songs than the other one. That skews the results.
Never heard Saga before, but I kinda like it. 8 points.
  3:37pm
DCE:

it does make me laugh, so I'll give it 1
  3:37pm
cglenn:

good god man... crapola for saga
  3:38pm
ahmad:

So awesomely bad. -8
  3:38pm
jim in denver:

really Clay, this is awful!
  3:38pm
popo:

oh no, i actually like this stupid song...
  3:38pm
?:

Saga! Who the fuck remembers Saga!?! Clay does. 10 points. What's next, Aldo Nova?
  3:38pm
dcp@:

god MAKE IT STOP! Hey can we give negative scores?
  3:38pm
DCE:

Caryn, no one is going to be elected president of WFMU based off this, so don't sweat it!!
  3:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Frances!

NO, I mean the IMPARTIAL scorekeeper, at the station or the board. I can't be, I'm behind since I'm still at work.
  3:39pm
dinatekno:

Roxy Music 7, seeds 8, Pink Floyd 9, Alice Cooper 10!
  3:39pm
DCE:

not a great Alice Cooper song...5
  3:39pm
Julian:

This just sounds like a Clay pick without even looking
  3:39pm
Kirsten:

Go and watch the Cooper woman...
  3:40pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

Need more power.
  3:40pm
DCE:

I really should be working now...
  3:40pm
Dan B From Upstate:

Glad I actually tuned in in time to hear one of these! Alice Cooper: 6/10.
  3:40pm
jim in denver:

saga = 2 alice = 7
  3:40pm
duke:

Alice +1 I think Clay is exercising mind control over fabio
  3:40pm
Chop Scott:

Alice Cooper a solid 10!
  3:40pm
Clay's shill:

This Alice Cooper sounds like Fabio trying to sound like Clay.
  3:40pm
Chinchilla:

Mighta got more outta this one, Fab, but Alice still gets a +5
  3:40pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

3 for Alice Cooper.
  3:40pm
dcp@:

whoa, would not have picked this Alice Cooper song. Hmm....Not as bad as Saga but you could have left Clay in the dust here. Alice Cooper: 2
  3:41pm
Timb:

saga = 3, alice = 7
  3:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

+8 Alice!
  3:41pm
lee Chabowski:

Huge points for Aice Cooper! Thanks!
  3:41pm
monte:

wow -- i can only give alice 2, maybe I'm missing something....
  3:41pm
Caryn:

Hmm, 4 and a +1 just for being Cooper, so that's a total of 5.
  3:41pm
MenfussMike:

cool playing cooper, but there are a ton cooler songs by the Coop. 3 points
  3:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: Admit it, that ain't gonna happen the rest of today...
  3:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

Mr. Chabowski, could you quantify that as a whole number, 1 to 10? :)
  3:42pm
Julian:

+3 for saga, +3 for alice cooper
  3:42pm
duke:

I better pretend to work so they can pretend to pay me
  3:42pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

Pooper.
  3:42pm
DCE:

I knew it the minute I realized it was a battle day, MFS!
  3:42pm
Ramon from Philadelphia:

  3:44pm

  3:45pm
DCE:

race to the bottom??
  3:45pm
Chinchilla:

@ahmad- i think you can feel free to catch up on missed songs
  3:45pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

This song gets 9 points because it makes me feel like i'm walking down a alleyway with big shoulder pads 1986, but also reflects on the election coming up.
  3:45pm
ahmad:

0
  3:46pm

What is it with the meh tracks from great bands today? Wire gets a 4.

twitchy:

Love that thump on the upbeat. Why? 'Cause I'm really white, yo.
  4:02pm

Wire +9, +1 for Metallica. I would rather you play Lulu than this. or even St. Anger. yawn.
  4:03pm
Caryn:

You know, if you'd have played "And Justice for All..." era Metallica, I'd award plenty of points, but this? The meh continues. 5 points.
  4:03pm
Lars:

I'm already enroute, guys, be prepared to fork over EVERYTHING
  4:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

+6. C'mon guys, you can't dump on METALLICA!! Well I used to listen to the Black Album, so there's a sentimental factor from years ago here. But despite liking their old old headbanging stuff the best, the Black Album is still good in its way. Now Load, THAT'S where I stop paying attention.
  4:03pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

Metallica is sooooooooo hard!

Metallica hasn't done anything worthwhile since the 80s. The Black Album is where they jumped the shark.

  4:08pm
Cheri Pi:

Yawn. and I like Led Zep but this is always on in the car on the Clear Channel...

Better zeppelin than this out there. +4
  4:08pm
JDELZ:

kashmir? what am i listening to, the best show?
  4:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

+7 - like this song a lot, but for Fabio to play it? Sounds like he's trying to co-opt Clay's picks. Still, I'll give him 7 points because I find it interesting Fabio likes this one.
  4:08pm
The Owl:

Weird. Some white guy covering the Puff Daddy song from the Godzilla soundtrack. He's not as good a rapper, that's for sure.
  4:08pm
Ramon from Philadelphia:

Wire deserves another 10 points Incredible. Allright, wHoever plays Cabaret Voltaire or Severed Heads WINS!!! Hands down.
  4:08pm
Shadowplaid:

The most overplayed Zeppelin song. -5
  4:09pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

7 for Led Zeppelin. Another famous cocaine mirror that you'd win at the dart game. And then you win the roach clips with the colored feathers dangling from them.
  4:09pm
Dan B From Upstate:

Kashmir + 9. Ken playing a rockabye baby version of this every week has reminded me how much I love this song.

hearing Kashmir right after Metallica makes it sound even lamer. Weak, Fabio, totally weak.
  4:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Phillip: Did they actually have these "cocaine mirrors" with band names on them? Or have you been snorting something? ;)
  4:10pm

  4:12pm
DCE:

of course, I was snorting Smarties back then
  4:12pm
Caryn:

The thing is, in Finland you hardly ever hear this on the radio, it's always friggin' "Stairway", so it's not overplayed here.
  4:12pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

Never any Killing Joke. @Matt: I'm 34 and i just found out about cocaine mirrors a couple of years ago. Don't wanna touch that stuff.
  4:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: Wow, surprised that Sea World had those! Also surprised the GD were on a coke mirror. Now a roach clip yes! Maybe a sugar cube dish...
  4:12pm
ahmad:

Fabio just gave you a huge opening, clay.

  4:15pm
Dan B From Upstate:

I'm with you guys on napster, but when metallica started fighting for "the little guy" even though the little guy didn't want metallica fighting for them? That's what made me bitter.

"Speed math" -- EXACTLY what you think it is, math on speed!!!
  4:16pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Fabio believes in strength through failure. Clay believes in punishing silence.
  4:16pm

Gotta say, if Fabio plays CV after the requests, that'll be pandering of the worst kind and will make me reduce the points I give him.

I think that was the carnival county fair lingo and that some discovered one day that those goofy band mirrors could actually be used for cocaine. "Eureka" says the cocaine junky who just won a mirror.

When i saw Loverboy, they played this song and the bassist flipped his bass over and on the back he had the word "Loose" in masking tape on it.
  4:39pm
Lou:

meghan should do a "loose" set...you've covered two of the bases already...
  4:39pm
Cecile:

  4:39pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

10 for the counteraction of Dusty Springfield cause it was kind of a slap to the face by having Dusty beating Dusty. Loverboy 0.

pretty much all of my friends see zero humor in this song.
  4:40pm
Caryn:

Have no idea who Loverboy are, but bored by this, so a 2.
  4:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Cecile/Chinchilla: Yeah, Michele said in one of her fill-in solo talk shows that she has a "food bed" (or her bed IS a food bed), where she likes to eat food. I don't like the feel of crumbs, but some people would probably like doing that.

A draw so far.

Clay, as ever, is putting a nice wedge of cheese on a sometimes too serious freeform burger.
  5:34pm
david:

I can't wait to see Joe Biden tonight! Love Biden.
  5:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hey OD! Making that freeform burger nice and gooey and spilling off the bun! :)

@david: The long outro to "Helter Skelter" reminded me of that Plastic Ono Band, Ringo's drums are similar on that.
  5:36pm
Caryn:

Get Fabio a Slanket!
  5:36pm
sFrances:

@Caryn: Awww,Thank you! I loves her so, she's pretty danged sweet.

can't hear a zevon song without thinking... ahhh ooooo
  5:39pm
Listener Dave from Seattle:

What's wrong with pink poop? That sounds like an improvement.
  5:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

I can't believe everyone wonders why Obama didn't bring up the "47 percent" quote--that was a strategic decision I agree with. First off, everyone knows about it, and that was O's main ad campaign against Rom. Second it was recorded secretly without his permission, might seem rude to rub that in Romney's face. And third, that "47 percent" quote already DESTROYED Romney's chances--what possible benefit is there to bring that up before Romney? Nothing more to gain, and if Romney had provided a good rebuttal to that--Obama's main line of attack would have been defeated. Good on him keeping that in reserve, so he can remind voters of it again RIGHT BEFORE Election Day. </politics> <music!>
  5:40pm
sFrances:

@Caryn: Randy is scary scary smart, it's almost creepy! They're siblings too: same litter/mom diff't dad. WELCOME TO CAT TALK (sorry)

Lalo is always great. But the ape noises are kinda putting me off. 8 points.
  5:44pm
Fiendish McTavish:

Zevon: 6, if only for introducing some funk into the proceedings, even if it is limp funk.

I'm wondering why the Obama campaign isn't bringing up the Etch-a-Sketch plan that Romney's campaign manager brought up a couple of months ago. They sure are shaking it now.

Lalo: 7
  5:44pm
Matt from Springfield:

@booji: Obama not wanting a second term? If wanted to screw his own chances, there are A LOT of ways he could do that. An intentionally lackluster debate is actually more difficult to pull off.
  5:45pm
Timb:

Fab gets +8. Deep dig here. Good stuff.
  5:45pm
