The singer/writer/rhythm guitarist fronts the band Semi-Free, creating atmospheric songs and renditions of others' tunes in a gentler mode of music. "Everywhere" from that same album is my favorite track of his.

Irene! Nice to hear you in real time! Sounding great as always.
  Mon. 9/17/12 12:26pm Irene:

Hi Folks!

I'm setting up for Janine Nichols and Semi-Free, so just glancing the playlist now. Bob, that's a real find-- Linda Perhacs album on Kapp most likely was not actually released. One of my top 5 albums. And Sean-- Irene fan club? I'm flattered!
  Mon. 9/17/12 12:33pm kat330:

Irene: Cleaning out an estate, I can commiserate. I was doing what you're now doing last summer. It resulted in a lot of scanned photos and dredged up memories.
  Mon. 9/17/12 12:34pm 12539:

Linda Perhacs has been working lately with Julia Holter:

[Behind while I was in the kitchen] Also wanted to agree about Luka Bloom. He got a reasonable amount of airplay locally on WFPK, but haven't heard anything of him in many years now.
  Mon. 9/17/12 1:03pm Looms:

Ready for chill-out moments, hi!
Mon. 9/17/12 1:19pm Van in DC:

I'll second Bob's request.
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:04pm kat330:

The Buster Keaton mention reminded of a wonderful old film we watched this weekend: Jean Vigo's "l'Atalante."
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:12pm kat330:

This is a novel arrangement.
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:15pm Looms:

Beautiful live set, thanks!
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:16pm kat330:

As is this -- a Darlin' arrangement! Great interview, Irene! TY so much, Janine & Semi-Free!
Mon. 9/17/12 2:18pm Van in DC:

Thanks again to Janine and Semi-Free for stopping in - loved it!
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:27pm Cheri Pi:

Very Husker Duey
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:29pm dcp:

I was thinking Van Morrisony
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:34pm kat330:

I could be a slave to this sound. Nice!
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:37pm Looms:

@Kat: nice to know L'Atalante is still being watched in the US. Have you seen Zero De Conduite by the same director, Jean Vigo? It's an important movie over here.
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:40pm kat330:

@Looms: I spent a few moments trying to locate the box set of Vigo I gave Philo, but didn't find it yet. If that is part of the Criterion collection, we have it but not yet seen it.
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:44pm kat330:

An online search indicates it is in the set. As for l'Atalante, Michel Simon is a joy! And all those cats!! :)
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:45pm Looms:

Hope you'll like it :)
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:53pm kat330:

This is not an insult: She sounds a bit like David Sedaris' imitation of Billie Holiday.
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:57pm Mike East:

@kat330 - you are absolutely right. My Baloney has a first name...
Avatar Mon. 9/17/12 2:58pm Irene:

You know, Kat, you're absolutely right. At least on this track she sounds totally like Sedaris. But I think Kat's a really inventive interpreter, at least on the other songs.
Mon. 9/17/12 2:59pm Van in DC:

Beautiful show today Irene, many thanks!
  Mon. 9/17/12 2:59pm kat330:

Whew, for a moment there I thought my commenting rights might be revoked. ;)
  Mon. 9/17/12 3:00pm kat330:

Lovely, lovely show indeed! Many thanks, Irene, and best of luck with your major undertaking.
