Listener comments!

  12:02pm
robyn:

hola! new tagline duane?
  12:03pm
Nathan:

Got my ticket for the Duane Train... I'll be in the smoking carriage.
  12:04pm
Cecile:

hola, duane!
  12:05pm
duane:

not official yet Robyn>..thinkin of having another on airr party to launch it.haha
  12:06pm
duane:

hi cecile. did you see the Marvelettes unsung?
  12:08pm
Sam:

Me too Nathan!
  12:08pm
robyn:

also, i got my swag this week, but had it sent to my parents' house since i was moving around at the time. my dad has decided to burn a copy of your mix for himself. "some funny song titles" on my CDs, he says..can't wait to hear what he says when he actually listens.
  12:09pm
robyn:

nothing is more beautiful than a father and daughter bonding over the collarbones.
  12:10pm
duane:

robyn: hahaha..coincidentally..my dad loves the cd *shrug*
  12:10pm
still b/p:

I had a little lyric going with the nice Kink beat to accompany deletion of over-accumulating Groupon mail:
"I'm throwin' all the shit out, shit out."
  12:11pm
Cecile:

I did! What a sad, chaotic story.
And the person who probably made the most money had to quit the group before it became famous!

I did love the Inkster High tribute to the Marvelettes. Very fun and cool.
  12:14pm
robyn:

maybe that can be your tagline...Bringing Families Together. or, Family Healing After Ken's Show.
  12:15pm
Cheri Pi:

Hey Duane-man
  12:16pm
Nathan:

So when we're all hanging around the Ravetirement community you think we'll be listening to classic house tracks in the rec room?
  12:17pm
duane:

I like the post-ken family healing idea.
Cecile: Yeah it was sad, yet i got the sense there was not too much bitterness..the Inkster tribute was cute.
Hi Cheri 3.14 :)
  12:21pm
Cecile:

No, that part of Michigan is pretty hardscrabble in its way. People kind of take the hands they are dealt.

But I didn't know Smoky Robinson had taken such an interest in them, that's a really cool detail.

My husband didn't know who they were, but he knew all their songs:"Oh, my sister had that! Oh, I know this song!"
  12:22pm
duane:

Cecile: I loved the live apollo footage..when the guy got onstage and danced off with them!
  12:23pm
Cecile:

that was great footage!
Also, how Berry Gordy's warnings about the Contours scared the girls away - for about a month...
  12:27pm
duane:

Cecile: I Know! Mary Wells mentioned that they got the same warning from Barry when the Supremes toured with them in her book...Poor guys. What they must've done to get that reputation i'd love to know
  12:33pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Howdy all. I'm not familiar with this sound coming from Jah Wobble - what year?
  12:34pm
Cecile:

duane, I think the Marvelettes, Supremes and others were his first kids. He was still trying to maintain decorum. After about 5 years, I think Barry was tired out. lol.
  12:34pm
Andrew Waterloo:

isn't this Wobble's latest stuff?
  12:34pm
duane:

Jeremy: Its from the Snakecharmer record . With Francois K and Holger Czukay
  12:36pm
joe:

Not familier with it but I'm very interested in this Marvelettes Unsung now.
  12:36pm
kata:

morning all. Even later to work than usual ! :) Gotta track down that Marvelettes show you're talking about!
  12:36pm
steve:

doesn't Snakecharmer also weirdly feature The Edge from U2?
  12:38pm
duane:

yeah you're right Steve. aah the 80's!
  12:39pm
joe:

yeah steve I think you might be right
  12:39pm
kata:

oh, it's easy to find
http://www.soultracks.com/unsung-marvelettes
  12:40pm
robyn:

"our love is insane," great track.
  12:41pm
Cecile:

yeah, better to watch it there than on TV1, their vid player is legendarily bad.
  12:41pm
joe:

My family always had this weird attachment to the Marvellettes right up to my grandfather because the family lived on Beechwood Ave so Beechwood 4-5789 kind of became this strange family theme song.
  12:45pm
joe:

Wow I just looked at the episode list I never knew I feel so out of it. Thanks Guys!
  12:46pm
joe:

Anybody elses player chirping like crazy or is that my company's wondeful systems again?
  12:47pm
Jeremy Shatan:

I remember when Snakecharmer came out but never heard it - sounded good! Never count out the Wobb.
  12:52pm
joe:

Come on he wrote the Thong Song :)
  12:57pm
Denise in DC:

Duane, I came in in the middle of what you were saying about an openly-gay performer, but didn't hear who you were talking about. Who was it?
  12:58pm
duane:

Denise: Jobriath. Evan "Funk" Davies is interviewing Kieran Turner who made a documentary about him .
  1:00pm
duane:

joe: And that's not genius:)
  1:00pm
efd:

Thanks for the mention, Duane! I'm also going to have a couple of exclusive advance tracks from Ann Magnuson and Kristian Hoffman's new collaboration 'The Jobriath Medley: A Glam Rock Fairy Tale' in which they cover several Jobriath songs and tell his story in a musical stylee.
  1:01pm
Denise in DC:

Sounds fabulous! Thanks!
  1:01pm
joe:

@duane no I was pointing out that you failed to mention it. :)
  1:03pm
robyn:

i remember morrissey put the marvelettes on one of his comps.
  1:03pm
tim from champaign:

My mother-in-law worked with one of the original Vandellas at a Toys R US in suburban Detroit in the 80s. She described the ex-Vandella as mean and pissed. I would be too.
  1:03pm
Cecile:

they really got the shaft.
  1:12pm
Jeremy Shatan:

I heard this yesterday - not bad!
  1:13pm
duane:

Snoop *smh* it's fine..i'm just so amused
  1:15pm
joe:

Barry Gordy could be known to take advantage of the age and inexperience (as did many of the people in his postion). I think that is why he and Gaye had such a hairy relationship. Gaye was't willing to buy Gordy's bill of sale.
  1:18pm
duane:

joe: and surprisingly enough Stevie Wonder wasn't having enough of that either
  1:18pm
joe:

@robyn Now that you say that I remember one of the times I saw him he put them in his video comp that he would play before his shwo.
  1:19pm
joe:

@duane very true especially with how young he was.
  1:20pm
still b/p:

But some come through a formative Motown experience with their values and attitudes in fine shape....as being illustrated currently by the assorted Jacksons!
  1:20pm
duane:

@Robyn: ABC was known to play "The hunter gets captured by the game" live back in the early 80's
  1:23pm
Cecile:

and the Debarges!
  1:23pm
joe:

Still b/p LOL!
  1:23pm
tim from champaign:

Adios amigos and amigas! I'm off to Sleeping Bear Dunes for the rest of the week.
  1:26pm
Cecile:

enjoy!
  1:29pm
still b/p:

That sounds like a good place just in the name alone. If I could join it with another happy concept from a recent playlist comment...and go to Sleeping Bear Dunes and eat gigantic pieces of toast, all would be well.
  1:36pm
robyn:

@duane i love that song title. familiar with it through grace jones, didn't know it was a marvelettes tune.
  1:46pm
BodegaMan:

Ahhh, Tim indeed a great spot, for the uninitiated it's on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan in the state of Michigan. An, eh hem, sleeper of a National Park.
I feel like a stranger on Duane's message board. So I'll just dance by myself in the corner over here.
  1:47pm
kata:

oh this is good !
  1:55pm
Jeremy Shatan:

OK, I'm not a Prince fan, but this is *smokin'*.
  1:57pm
rada:

You'd better be a Prince fan after this set! ;)
  1:59pm
Cecile:

BodegaMan, you are welcome! don't hide!
  1:59pm
joe:

God I love anytime I can get my hands on WU instrumentals.
  2:02pm
BodegaMan:

@Cecile Thanks. And thanks for inspiring Billy Jam's Miami Bass DJ premium. It's been a real treat.
  2:08pm
Cecile:

I don't remember doing that, but Miami bass is pretty great.
  2:10pm
Pat in Philadelphia:

Well this new Beach Boys track is at least better than the titular single. "That's Why God..." sounded like Beach Boys karaoke. Yuck.
  2:16pm
BodegaMan:

Cecile, he gave you credit in the liner notes.
  2:16pm
Cheri Pi:

Giddyup Giddyup for love!
  2:18pm
Mike East:

The phones have been keeping me away today, but what I've been able to catch is helping me make it through...especially that Prince track!
  2:19pm
Cecile:

holy crap!!!!!!!
I had no idea, Bodega. Wow, that's so cool.
  2:20pm
robyn:

funkyyyyy
  2:22pm
Cecile:

they sound like they're nine. It's squicking me out.
  2:23pm
joe:

I feel like I'm back on Ken's show last Wed. :)
  2:26pm
Cheri Pi:

That warm bath of Erotic slowjams last week Joe???
  2:28pm
robyn:

hahaha, i had "love train" in my head for 2 days after that. i'd be walking around at work..."people all over the world! join hands! join hands!" insidious.
  2:29pm
Cheri Pi:

I hear that Robyn! this is going to sound crazy but I actually replayed some of it from the archives, I was definitely stuck ion that love train.
  2:31pm
duane:

i actually loved the "Cain train" song
  2:31pm
Cheri Pi:

Cecile! I'm so proud of you. also, speaking to BT today we both realize that DK prawbleby never got our email so I'm sending it to him to forward. she got inbox problems
  2:31pm
Cheri Pi:

*me too Duane ;)
  2:32pm
robyn:

well, that does sound kinda crazy, although it was a pretty entertaining show.
  2:33pm
joe:

@Cheri Pi AHHHHH Yeah
  2:34pm
Cecile:

hahahahahah!
The saga will finally see the light of day...
  2:35pm
Cheri Pi:

I didn't save my email to the 2 of youse, will you send it to me?
  2:36pm
Cecile:

I'll take a look and see if I still have it.
  2:43pm
Cheri Pi:

I still got all the files-n-stuffs
  2:46pm
robyn:

what a glorious show today.
  2:48pm
duane:

thanx robyn. Having a great time myself...even without martinis!
  2:50pm
duane:

"you was in the tank last night..braggin 'bout yo Lim-O-Siine"
  2:52pm
Cecile:

even when it's raining. What a work ethic.
  2:53pm
duane:

walk between the raindrops, cecile, walk between the raindrops
  2:54pm
Cecile:

I knew it was Cher!
  2:55pm
still b/p:

She sounds like she's got two things on: a buzz and sunglasses
  2:56pm
Cecile:

hahahahahaha duane.

I double-dog-dare you to tweet Cher and tell her you played this record.
  2:58pm
Parq:

You're daring him to "tweet" Cher -- is that what they're calling it nowadays?
  2:59pm
Cecile:

Yeah, that's what they call it when you use Twitter...
  2:59pm
joe:

Good show sir.
  3:00pm
duane:

watch me cecile
