Good morning Jeff. What a pleasant surprise to hear your show this morning!
Thu. 3/15/12 9:12am George of Troy:

Nice surprise appearance of Noise and Syrup. Sounds great so far, Jeff M!
Thu. 3/15/12 9:15am listener james from westwood:

noise and syrup episodes are ideal for the sort of word work i've got on tap today. a welcome morning fill-in!
Avatar Thu. 3/15/12 9:16am ?:

hey , good morning everyone. Thanks! Apparently this is scratchiest record I could find that need cleaning the most...
Avatar Thu. 3/15/12 9:16am jeff-m:

whoops, that was me
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:19am SueP:

I love pops and clicks that are included when playing an old vinyl record.
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:19am yayson:

  Thu. 3/15/12 9:21am Bas, NL:

Hi Jeff! What a great starter tracks already!
Thu. 3/15/12 9:22am Chris from DC:

Dang it, meeting day. Back in a bit. Sigh.
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:23am BSI:

WHOA, live syrup!
Seizure the day!
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:28am still b/p:

Caesura the day -- pause that puppy! Slowww it down for us, mon, let us get away from the hustling crowd and all that rat race noise down in the street.
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:30am Cecile:

Awesome, and ITA Listener James. Great stuff to chop up copy to.
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:33am BSI:

That AshRaTempel record = yet further proof of my epiphany that all the greatest LPs were either released or recorded in 1971..... in my humble opinion, anyway.
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:33am Cecile:

wow, you know you're old when things like the Hall of Fame still seem new, and they've already been reissued.
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:34am Cecile:

I would say that, except I like too many LPs from '74 and '77! And '84
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:37am BSI:

There's definitely great exceptions, but something wicked and marvelous was in the water of Europe in '71...
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:39am Cecile:

I have to agree. I think everyone's water! All kinds of great and wonderous vinyl came out that year - even though my dad's hippie students were already mourning the Sixties.
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:39am Cecile:

Hippie mining engineers. Kind of an oxymoron.
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:42am SueP:

better drugs in the late '60s / early '70s. that's my theory.
Thu. 3/15/12 9:44am George of Troy:

Ahh . . . ZF. Wonderful.
Avatar Thu. 3/15/12 9:45am jeff-m:

some of it is that a lot of "corny" stuff was filtered out by then by time and taste. Plus, the hard rock influence I guess... Piper is from what 66" or 67" and is still amazing
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:45am moose:

i was released in 1971! great great great show
Thu. 3/15/12 9:48am listener james from westwood:

fear and loathing in las vegas was written in '71, even if water was about the last thing hunter thompson might be thought of as drinking....
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:50am BSI:

Just off the top of my wrecked brain, there was Ash Ra Tempel's first, the Faust clear LP, Hawkwind's "X In Search of Space," Amon Duul II's 'dance of the lemmings' ... tago mago -- bloody Cluster '71, guru guru's 'hinten' -- etc etc etc... all the stars were aligned or some wacky thing.
  Thu. 3/15/12 9:58am glenn!:

  Thu. 3/15/12 10:02am Cecile:

ha, Jeff you're funny.
"It was great, no it was decent, no it was terrible."
  Thu. 3/15/12 10:04am dilettante courtoisie:

michael morley is the name of the guy from Dead C
  Thu. 3/15/12 10:23am Cecile:

so I have been wanting to check out Dead C work from the last couple of years, but it seems like their audience is really polarized about them. Where to start with the 2006-present stuff?
  Thu. 3/15/12 10:26am Cheri Pi:

What a great track by Julia Holter, Cecile-if you figure out the Dead C conundrum, fill me in too.
Thu. 3/15/12 10:27am Chris from DC:

The self-titled record on Language is fantastic, one of their best. Seret Earth is also really good, and probably easier to come by.
Thu. 3/15/12 10:31am Chris from DC:

Oops, actually, I forgot the s/t record is older than 2006.
  Thu. 3/15/12 10:31am Cecile:

thanks, Chris.
  Thu. 3/15/12 10:32am Cecile:

I think Cheri, when there is that much disagreement, I just gotta roll up my sleeves and get dug in
  Thu. 3/15/12 10:35am Cheri Pi:

I do the same Cecile, sometimes the social, or literary context of music, (reviews, blogs etc) get me stuck, then I'll hear it on WFMU and realize I just need to own it and listen to every track.
Thu. 3/15/12 10:37am tim from champaign:

MV+EE played in my town about 4 years ago and I was the only one there. It was disappointing that no one showed up but it was really awesome that MV+EE still played and I got a private concert.
  Thu. 3/15/12 10:39am Cecile:

I am pleased with how many Dead C recordings emusic has, I will be getting started...

How cool. tim!
  Thu. 3/15/12 10:40am Cecile:

Just ordered a cheap copy of Secret Earth.
Avatar Thu. 3/15/12 10:43am jeff-m:

that happened to me once with Bro JT and Oneida in Baltimore around 1999. My bro and me were the only to show up. They played anyway. Was kinda weird. We at least had fun...
Avatar Thu. 3/15/12 10:44am jeff-m:

Secret Earth is good. Never knew there was a rift among fans.. I just like a bunch of their stuff all over the place
  Thu. 3/15/12 10:47am Cecile:

I didn't know that either. You played Gate, and then I wondered what the Dead C were up to. I saw they had released several albums after the comp I got which goes up to 2005. Then all of a sudden it's, oh the electronics are great, the electronics are terrible, it's really listenable, it's unlistenable, it's adventurous, no, it's safe and my brain started to spin.
  Thu. 3/15/12 10:51am hindledale:

been missing you on saturday nights
Avatar Thu. 3/15/12 10:58am jeff-m:

thanks, that's nice of you to say
  Thu. 3/15/12 11:02am Cecile:

heck, it would be swell if you had a day show.
  Thu. 3/15/12 11:04am BSI:

very much the dig, this here.
  Thu. 3/15/12 11:21am BSI:

...................and this.
  Thu. 3/15/12 11:22am Carmichael:

Punching the FMU time-clock. Good morning Jeff, et al ....
  Thu. 3/15/12 11:26am Carmichael:

Here's a link to celebrate the special day today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zv1j9erks2Y
  Thu. 3/15/12 11:32am Cecile:

this is a classic.
  Thu. 3/15/12 11:38am BSI:

More fill-ins during office hours, please.
Thanking you in advance, I remain,
  Thu. 3/15/12 11:39am andymorphic:

great set...i have been loving it all morning
Thu. 3/15/12 11:40am Chris from DC:
