I once went to a friend's mother's house in Jersey. She had those plastic covers and was a heavy smoker. They were grossly yellow. But she was so proud to show me how beautiful her sofa was underneath.

Gee, it even looks like those curtains are covered in plastic. HA!

First time listener here - great stuff! I'll be back for sure!

Watch out for central Brooklyn, lots of pirate stations that change frequency a lot (Jamaican and Creole). Right now there's a Creole one on 90.9 that blocks FMU's over-air signal for a few miles radius in Flatbush/Midwood. But it'll change frequency again soon, and there's always the stream...

Monkeybutler, Welcome - you are in good hands.

Liz knows, I emailed her and she replied that she's also heard from others. When I'm back in Brooklyn (currently visting friends for a few days) I'll see if I can find the address or contact info easily, as she requested (if it was easy)... The FCC takes forever to get results...

  8:42pm
Prince of Blackouts:

Prisencolinensinainciusol è piu buona que La Situazione!
  8:43pm
Neil:

Happy to oblige. My preferred recipe - preferred hell - only recipe is 1 part Cointreau, 2 parts fresh lime, 3 parts really good Tequila. Shaken with ice, straight up. Salted rim optional, but not really. And you'll have to excuse me now. I think it's time to mix another.
  8:43pm

La Situazione. Caffone!

Sue:

Yes, thank you Monica. Great show
  8:47pm
Jeff:

...some OJ, some pineapple juice, 3-4 different rums, li'l splash of John D. Taylor Velvet Falernum, a goodly splash of Cointreau, few dashes of Angostura bitters, a squeeze of fresh lime juice to cut the sweetness. Oh, and a tiny little float of Galliano just to make it smell and taste like the '70s!

Go make that, kids. I bet you'll like it.

Amsterdam:

Cant sleep. Tuned in, only to hear my favorite Tindersticks song.
  8:57pm
Jeff:

It's interesting how many margarita variations there are, just changing the balance of those basic ingredients. I'm partial to:

3 parts fresh lime juice
2 parts Cointreau
2 parts Combier (*)
6 parts good tequila

* Combier (available at Astor, for you NYC folk) has good-quality orange essences, but a bit less of that bite Cointreau has; I find using a bit of each makes for a pleasing balance. The classic recipe would just use 4 parts Cointreau. Avoid any nasty industrial Triple Sec.

Mark:

Hi Monica,
I was excited to see/hear Tak Shindo on the playlist for 3/11. Given your affinity for "New San Antonio Rose," I'd like to request that you play his version from _Far East Goes Western_. I heard it played once on the radio in 1975 and it made an indelible impression. I have sought but never found a copy, and alas, he is posthumous and I am post-vinyl.
Cheers.
