Liz B.:

Hi everybody, welcome to Marathon madness! I'll be giving away tons of my favorite albums today, so you'd better pledge!
  9:40am
glenn:

even your partridge family albums that you've been keeping since you were five?
  9:42am
Ben:

Everybody! Help Liz raise $. It's about time we do something for her. We're here because her shit is good shit. They even have this website for us to write whatever we want. It's no bullshit, I think they really do need a few bucks from each of us who can afford it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am
Liz B.:

Aw, thanks Ben. People, listen to this man!
  9:50am
Cecile:

Are you going to be giving away some house music? :D
  9:54am
Kris T.:

'morning, Liz...I pledged online to your show a few days ago. Would have pledged to Jason too, but my amount wasn't deemed 2-DJ-worthy
Avatar 9:56am
BT:

Two great prizes up for grabs now: Zola Jesus' Conatus CD on sacred Bones + the killer B-Girls comp of classic queen MCs! Pledge now, the room is quiet at you have a good shot at nabbing these!

Put me in for Chicas, too.
  10:16am
Cecile:

hey, just because it's fundraiser doesn't mean we can't chat...
  10:18am
Ike:

A lot of people wait even longer to start their prize accounts, or to pledge at all. There's a strange inclination sometimes to procrastinate it. Hey folks, stop putting it off and give the DJs a morale boost by pledging NOW. Do NOT wait until the finale.
  10:19am
Cecile:

I had to pledge to Jason last week just cause, but this week I'm totally catching up.

I'm all about impurity and pragmatism if it makes good art, but that's been long gone from the music mainstream for the most part.
  10:31am
Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Whoahhh, thanks, LBBT! I feel lucky and honored. I am sure I'll keep contributing throughout the week (beyond my record adaptor.) Let's all crank it up and keep on pushing WFMU lovers! <3

Slick radio makes me ill. WFMU is the real.

Well, the obvious comparison about your music collection and listening to 'FMU is like, well sex. A one-some is nice, but a two-some is better.

hi Liz. It has been a long time. I am back now. Paris-France

Pledge to Liz because she's as beautifully around the way as Bobbito's Footworks once was.

yeah chucks didn't make my feet feel good at all--same with Vans, though I still have a pair of those.

It's funny how obsessed we were with shoes when younger and then you see video of a group like the minutemen and d's wearing goofy running shoes.
  11:07am

I remember envying the first kids from California who showed up in Juneau, Alaska with low-top Vans, when I was but a yout'.
  11:08am
Caryn:

All about Adidas, Pumas & Reeboks here! Of course, since Adidas and Puma were both founded by the Dassler brothers, I always consider those two brands to be kin to one another.
  11:08am
Cecile:

Yep. that's why I loved them. They, the Meat Puppets and 'mats made me embrace my midwestern thrift store aesthetic.
  11:09am
Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Great point, dc pat! Minutemen walked econo.
  11:09am
dc pat:

DAMN YOU LIZ!! Have to get in the running for Omar...
  11:11am
Cecile:

it really wasn't a real aesthetic. It was mostly dressing for warmth. I remember wearing a collared sweater with a turtleneck under it with an ancient black cordurory trench over cause I was too poor for down coats, and a couple of people freaked out over my "vintage" style.

FOTC had a running joke on their show what their vintage style was: "clothes."
  11:12am
Cecile:

I was shocked at the 'mats because they actually looked like me and my friends. Everyone bought flannel shirts cause they were cheap and warm.
  11:13am
Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

@Cecile, and they always seemed like they partied like me and my friends too, in an open field. :-)
  11:15am
dc pat:

yep, same with us Cecile--everybody in PA wore flannel anyway so we all found ourselves "in style."
  11:15am

Yeah. I wasn't a field partier myself, but 75% of my HS graduating class was...

  11:17am
Caryn:

@Adam: you're right about the Nikes and bunk beds. I also suspect that we are not all disturbingly androgynous and that we don't all have the same haircut.
On the other hand, we are all computer-adept, we have self-appointed (comments board) monikers, we have a uniform (WFMU t-shirts), and many of us believe Yo La Tengo will come hidden in the tail of a comet to lead us to freeform radio paradise, so...
  11:17am
Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

I mostly read in high school, but I couldn't resist open flame. Hahaha.
  11:17am
Cecile:

yeah, sbp.
I think I had a problem with the "Our Band Could Be Our Life," cause the author wasn't from the Midwest. So much of getting Big Black, the 'mats, etc came from as the mats put it being stuck in the middle. And you could be in the middle on both coasts, as long as you were stuck somewhere you didn't want to be.

I'm willing to be stuck with Brian and Liz in a smelly tent. absolutley.
  11:25am
Danne D:

Go Liz Go! :)
  11:26am
Caryn:

@Adam: damn straight. If you can do "disturbingly androgenous" well, it's magic. Todd Haynes & a university lecturer of mine both once made the same point: it is much easier to handle someone being clearly other in an easily definable way. But keeping things ambivalent is often much more disturbing for people, but also way more interesting. Todd Haynes said it about Bowie's androgeny, the lecturer about The Smiths' androgeny and ambivalence.
  11:26am

I can hardly believe I am getting 12 dj premiums this year. Bonkers! These Wonderful WFMU volunteers should be celebrated massive.

Last chance people! Get your pledges in now!!
  11:49am
Caryn:

Hey, you're already eating a human being, and most likely raw, since cooking Björk on an elevator is gonna be tricky (unless by some crazy coincidence you have a camping sterno fire in your bag). When you're covered in Icelandic songstress blood and sinew, using a bit of scraggly goth hair to get that bit of Björk shortrib from between your teeth is not gonna seem gross anymore.
  11:51am
Caryn:

BTW, going to Iceland in May. Now I'm gonna be worried every time I step into an elevator there...
  11:51am
Danne D:

@Caryn - are you sure that Björk actually has blood in her system? I'm not sure that I buy that. Carrying a sterno around with you at all times is good survivalist strategy btw.
  11:52am
Danne D:

@Caryn you need not worry, I think Iceland was forced to sell all of the country's elevators when the country went bankrupt.
  11:53am
Skirkie:

Bjork seems to me the like someone who would stalk, kill, and eat a rabbit all with her bare hands.
  11:53am
still b/p:

I will have the center-cut Bjork chops and a glass of the shaft red, please.
  11:54am

  11:54am
hamburger:

Bouef Bjorkguignon! that took me a while - not sure it was worth it..

  11:57am

This would DESTROY a robot! Haha
  12:00pm

Bouef Bjorkguignon - brilliant.
  12:00pm
Caryn:

@Danne: I'd believe Townsend doing that. Of course, his famous helicopter hand move is the result of a major mistake on his part too...
  12:01pm
Danne D:

@Caryn :) always dropping the knowledge.

Great Job Liz and Brian!
  12:03pm
