Candlemass: an apt music selection for this February 2, though the playlist archive shows you didn't play this band on Candlemas of 2006!

Cecile:
ha! BSI, I almost got one when I was into Hedningarna in the late 90s.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:18pm
Cecile:
Diane, who was the biggest oddball band there? The one that stuck out the most as being different.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:20pm
joe:
Eluveitie first time I heard these guys is when my wife was getting a tattoo a few weeks back.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:23pm
BSI:
@Cecile: a quick search reveals a hurdygurdy maker that offers active pickups for amplification... oh hell... time to start selling blood & plasma.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:24pm
Joel Gausten:
Loving the accents on these station IDs. :)
|
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:24pm
kamikaze:
I'd have to say Dark Funeral; the only black metal band (that I knew of) - corpse paint and leather outfits like a cross between a turtle and something out of Lord of the Rings. Last year Marduk was the only black metal band. |
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:25pm
chris:
Missed you, Diane! So awesome to have you back on board FMU!
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:29pm
Cecile:
yeah, it seems like it's mostly power, doom and thrash metal bands. And not crossover faves.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:29pm
highlander:
i put on my cape and polish my sword to this Amorphis song

Alestorm played; I heard they were good, but to me they are a one trick pony - Beer Metal with a keytar! |
|
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:31pm
kamikaze:
After all, Tankard was there, if you're gonna have beer metal~ |
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:31pm
jonathan:

|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:32pm

Bands I had no idea about: Channel Zero, Sapiency, Megora, Diamond Plate |
|
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:33pm
kamikaze:
Bands I had an idea of what they were about and did not see:: Nightwish, Stratovarius, Kamelot, Tristania, Virgin Steele, Vicious Rumors, Children of Bodom |
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:34pm
joe:
Any abosolutly never heard them before I was so blown away moments?
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:35pm
Ken From Hyde Park:
I saw a piece on Nightwish the other night on TV. They're from Finland.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:38pm
Cecile:
They are huge in certain parts of Europe. It was big news to some folks when their first singer left.
|
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:41pm
kamikaze:
They were the best received and merchandised band on the boat- they sold 2x the amount of gear of any band there. The bassist sang guest vocals with Amorphis and people were out of their minds! |
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:42pm
Cecile:
They're very popular with US Goths.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:44pm
Steve-O:
Hey Diane! Loving your program so far. BTW, is Therion British? Or are they German?
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:47pm
Cecile:
I can imagine Amorphis being really good.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:52pm
Cecile:
Love Annihilator. | |
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:56pm
Eric Lau:
Me too!!!!! | |
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:57pm
Adam in Portland:
Cecile, you, of course, have impeccable taste! I used to play a lot of Annihilator when I had a metal radio show in Alaska. Jeff from the band was always one of the genuinely nicest guys to talk to.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:58pm
Cecile:
I always liked their variety and the fact their lyrics are actually kinda smart. Also, they did the best AC/DC cop - Shallow Grave.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 1:59pm
Cecile:
It's nice to know Jeff Waters is a decent dude, too.
|
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:00pm
kamikaze:
Therion are from Sweden |
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:04pm
Steve-O:

Thu. 2/2/12 2:08pm
Adam in Portland:
Thanks, Steve-O! Jeff Waters is a real trooper! Running us through. :-)
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:10pm
Destroit:
Hammerfall= running up a mountain wearing short shorts wielding a fancy walking stick and an attitude. This, actually, is a good thing. :)
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:16pm
Adam in Portland:
Hammerfall = laboriously trudging up a ramp at the botanical gardens employing a Grab-It. Like me.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:18pm
Adam in Portland:
RAT SKATES! | |
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:23pm
Destroit:
This show is great. Usually working at this time, first I've heard of it.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:24pm
Adam in Portland:
Diane is mighty! | |
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:28pm
Cecile:
Hammerfall = being first in the checkout line at the Costco with a minimum number of enemy casualties
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:31pm
Adam in Portland:
Hammerfall = lying supine across a beanbag chair with a plate of figs within arm's reach while thinking of your favorite Manet piece.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:33pm
Cecile:
Beta Flash stream is buggy for me today.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:35pm
Cheri Pi:
the last 6 songs have all been especially killer!!!
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:37pm
FLORIDIAN RETIREE:
MASSACRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:40pm
Reuben in NJ:
Hammerfall = playing the latest version of Microsoft flight sim with joystick and headset; sweating, with heart racing, as you fly through a turbulent low pressure system
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:42pm
Eric Lau:
I agree Cheri Pi! Thanks Diane!
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:45pm
Adam in Portland:
Hammerfall = making cream cheese popovers in the WFMU kitchen while wearing a kiss the cook apron and then getting on the station intercom to ask that everyone report to the welcome table.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:46pm
Adam in Portland:
She's wiiiiiillllld, Diane, wiiiiiilllllld!
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:47pm

|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:47pm
glenn:
hammerfall = cinnamon buns.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:48pm
glenn:
i'm making pestolence pizza for dinner.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:48pm
Adam in Portland:
Oh, Glenn, everyone knows Hammerfall = honeybuns! ;-)
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:50pm
Adam in Portland:
My lower bacterial is killing me.
|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:57pm
Cecile:

|
Thu. 2/2/12 2:58pm
