Wow a night of cylinders!
Last week at Bryant Park was great fun
  Tue. 6/7/11 8:13pm MAC:

all discs last week; all cylinders this week! Who knows what's next?
  Tue. 6/7/11 8:16pm Minnesota Jeff:

Were there cylinders longer than 2 minutes?
  Tue. 6/7/11 8:16pm other david:

unique show on a unique station :)

MAC - what kind of lifespan do the cylinders have, how many times before the needle makes them unreadable?
  Tue. 6/7/11 8:22pm MAC:

These still play fine and a typical cylinder head is a ball so it sits lightly in the groove. Most cylinder deterioration comes from adverse storage conditions. I would say with proper care, HUNDREDS of years!
  Tue. 6/7/11 8:32pm other david:

So better than CD-R's? :D

That's truly remarkable, thank you for this wonderful show, I love the footsteps in the background and the winding of the player.. there's something so gentle and perfect about it :)

I have to admit my era of recordings top out with Wilmoth Houdini and Annette Hanshaw, and they probably just missed the cylinder era
  Tue. 6/7/11 8:34pm Dave:

The Sousa selection was "March from El Capitain" Great show!
  Tue. 6/7/11 8:37pm MAC:

Thanks Dave!
  Tue. 6/7/11 8:40pm MAC:

I played Hanshaw last week!
  Tue. 6/7/11 8:42pm other david:

I shall attack the archives!

Seriously would love to hear that, I'm in Ireland so not always able to hear the shows
  Tue. 6/7/11 8:42pm MAC:

That one had some strange distortion grooves!
  Tue. 6/7/11 8:45pm other david:

  Tue. 6/7/11 8:58pm other david:

a perfect show

thanks mac
  Sun. 10/27/13 3:43pm Andrew Park:

I'm so amaised about the wax cylinders. In fact, I heard that "Rheingold Beer" jingle at 33:45, AKA Estudiantina waltz.
