Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Tue. 3/15/11 3:23pm
Matt from Springfield:
Shame that Alex Chilton was performing just over a year ago--he left so suddenly. Sister Lovers/Third seems to have been loved by 4AD Records folk though--This Mortal Coil released a couple of covers from that album.

That's great that Chris Stamey's is doing that. Whatever you do, go see the Big Star Third show it is really awesome! You will not be sorry. I saw one of the shows at the Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill. http://bigstarthird.com/

Artificial Peace went on to become Marginal Man. Sen. Inouye son Kenny was in the band. My friend Dereck Hsu put out their first record on his Fountain of Youth label before they jumped to Dischord

|
Tue. 3/15/11 3:53pm

Brian. Some severe and inspired guitar on the John Allen song at Hoof 'n Mouth. At least, I think it was that song. Wild feedback, etc. Wipers?
|
Tue. 3/15/11 3:57pm
BT:
Heheh! Yeah, we did up Youth of America. Thanks! Props to Ira Kaplan who was doing Martin Swope panning/delay treatments behind the board on that big mess. I think we drove a few kind listeners out into the restauarant area though, so sorry bout that! Actually, it was a party worth raising the roof for...so many good jams the staff did that nite. Wish I could remember better....

They also used to have a Mexi burger which was amazing. Coincidentally, Mexiburger is the name of another Philly synth post punk outfit.

I make head cheese in the fall when i get discarded pig heads from farmers. amazing that they throw these away nowadays when it was a staple for our grandparents.
|
Tue. 3/15/11 4:41pm
Pat in Philadelphia:
@BT You barely taste the head cheese. They're little and only a buck! It's all about the tasty salsa verde! @Steve Here's hoping the Mexibuger comes back this summer. The Mexican Hot Dog is still on the menu though.

beef tongue is another good taco ingredient. but one thing i have never did until recently is have kimchi in a taco. i make my own real korean style kimchi (debates) year round. and i heard about the green van that goes around nyc and nj with kimchi in tacos. i mixed up a version for myself at home because i couldn't be in nyc to find this van. holy jeez what an unexpected combination of flavor
