That UCP interview is in issue #17 of NGL
  10:41am
Danne D:

KTttttttt: WFMU is not grant funded because with that comes strings. "Maybe you shouldn't play that band with the curse word in it's name." "That Bryce guys a little too out of control - can ya maybe get him to tone it down." "And as for that guy playing all those Amanda records..,.well we got special plans for him..."
  10:44am
βrian:

I heard a winemaker say, "I like my wines to be a bit difficult." I'm like that with my DJs. (Though I love Irene, too.)
  10:45am
Katya:

Here's to the scavengers and the WFMU Record Library. Hope my donation goes to the insurance on that library!

  11:05am
Carmichael:

Hey Jason, Hey Irwin, hey people.
  11:06am

  11:10am
Danne D:

  11:14am
Carmichael:

It's the PRINCIPLE, Jason. People expect everything to be free these days. I would have been much harsher in my response.
  11:15am
Katya:

(This bed is always in my head after Jason's show. Yours, too?)
  11:16am
Nathan:

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
  11:16am
Katya:

Who won the Malachai? Good luck sleeping with that photo in your home.
  11:20am
Danne D:

*wonders how many countries WFMU would be banned in just on general priniciple*
  11:20am
Katya:

What is that bed? Knew, but have long forgotten. Humming it most Thursday mornings.
  11:20am
glenn:

i agree carmichael. here's my take - i have no idea what the listenership (broadcast and internet) of wfmu is, but it can't be less than 100,000 people worldwide. 50 dollars from everybody = 5 million smackers. so pledge, people.
  11:21am
Katya:

Faust?
  11:24am
The Fly:

Help meeeeeeeeeeee!
  11:24am
Karl:

Thanks again for the fab show and being nice about the fundraiser shout-out.
  11:24am
Katya:

Have to stop drinking coffee. These Jason and Irwin are pushing my spit take threshold -- and you commenters, too!
  11:27am
Coffee:

I am an essential life force. You must continue consumption.
  11:27am
Katya:

Stay in my mouth, you.
  11:27am
Handsome Harry:

Sick horns on this one. Diggin' it.
  11:28am
βrian:

Coffee, you are an aphrodisiac and therefore dangerous.
  11:28am
seang:

just think that when you listen to WFMU, you never have to hear Billy Joel
  11:28am
Chuck E. Jesus:

that's what she said
  11:28am
Carmichael:

Hey man, play sumpin funky.
  11:30am
Katya:

LARGE PLEDGE! Congrats! Go, Alexander in SF!
  11:30am
Carmichael:

Alexander, you are THE MAN!!
  11:31am
Danne D:

Agreed Katya :) Way to go Alexander!!!!
Keep pledging folks :)
  11:31am
Coffee:

Just don't ask what I drink in the mornings to wake up.
  11:31am
Katya:

seang, Charlie Lewis played Billy Joel karaoke, but Charlie is a rockstar
  11:34am
seang:

that's hilarious, Charlie rules
  11:34am
glenn:

i'm pretty sure clay pigeon has played billy joel. and. in his defense, billy joel played piano on a lot of the shangri-las stuff, which gives him some cred in my eyes. not to mention that uptown girls is the greatest video EVAH.
  11:36am
Katya:

SPACE SHIP! My side hurts from laughing.
  11:36am
glenn:

my rapture will include wfmu.
  11:37am
Nathan:

I'm going to have to pledge more now to cover the shipping... :)
  11:37am
lou:

emo phillips?
  11:38am
Katya:

And Billy Joel had his rock band Attila with all the meat
http://www.google.com/images?q=atilla+billy+joel
  11:42am
Danne D:

Billy Joel has been played 10 times on WFMU:

http://wfmu.org/artistbrowser.php?action=artist&artist=Billy+Joel&artist_id=21696

Btw, if you want an idea of how amazing WFMU just go to that Artist/Band Browser and try and count how many different artists have been played on FMU. Compare that to typical radio. If you've been hesitant about a mouse pledge, if you value each of the artists played at just a fraction of a penny and pledged that you'd be at a mouse and beyond.

Support real variety :)
  11:43am
seang:

omg!
  11:45am
Danne D:

There's like 700+ entries under Z. Even if get to worry about duplicate acts or collaborations, it's still easily hundreds of different acts - JUST IN THE Z's!!!!!!!
  11:52am
dc pat:

what SF album is this?? My wife actually wants to pledge to win... is it up for??
  11:53am
Danne D:

http://www.wfmu.org/artistbrowser.php?action=artistlist&initial=T

Over 20,000 entries (yes it includes all the "The" groups)

Pledge just 1 cent per T song and unofficially adopt the letter T for $200. (You'll be adopting it in your heart of course)

And this is just since 2002. And not ever show is included in that Archive/Band browser.
  11:55am
Mike East:

Jonesy's played plenty of Billy Joel over the years...he doesn't do playlists, though.
  11:55am
Tom G:

I think it was Best Show, maybe 6 or 7 years ago, played Billy Joel until more people called. It went on for about a half hour.
  11:57am
Danne D:

Another great thing about WFMU.

What may appear on one DJ's premium may be used by a different DJ to torment his/her listeners into pledging so the DJ will stop playing it.
  11:58am
dc pat:

Vex Ruffin and the Lo-Fi Jerkheads = my new fave group
  11:58am
seang:

this premium is blowing me away
  12:00pm
dc mike:

Agreed. Can we get the jerkheads in dc?
  12:01pm
Ike:

Another great thing about FMU is the phone slave volunteers. When I pledged a couple of hours ago, I was barely awake and mumbled, "If Irwin gives you any trouble, maybe you should take him out back and throw him in a vat of chocolate" but the phone slave heard "chopped liver" which actually is a funnier image than "chocolate" (although I really should've said "gluten")... um... YEAH!
