Transmitter:

Yes you can, No I can't
  3:05pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

hello WFMU folks. hope your day is swell.
  3:06pm
Wha:

Maybe you can. I'm sure I can't...
  3:09pm
Matt from Springfield:

Isobell Campbell followed by Sexton Ming!
Swell indeed, DCE.
  3:16pm
AnAnonymousParty:

Sweet hat! Is it available through the auction?
  3:16pm
Volunteers:

What, no door to door limo service?
  3:18pm
Matt from Springfield:

The Magic Factory, like Willy Wonka's?! Which character does Andy Breckman compare to?
Is "Laura" the listener "Laura L" I see on the playlists?
  3:18pm
Sean Daily:

Not even close to first comment! Woo hoo!
  3:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

As of now someone's willing to pay $137.50 for 52 Jandek CDs, and 8 are willing to pay more than $50.

Irwin, are you sure they don't just want it for your autographed book, so they can forge your signature?
  3:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

Amanda! The Flying Pickle People Eater!
  3:27pm
pandamans:

UGH. WHY DO I HAVE TO BE ON THE REFERENCE DESK WHEN AMANDA IS ROCKIN THE RADIOoooOOooOO
  3:29pm
Dept. of Rhetorical Questions:

@pandamans: Because.
  3:30pm
pandamans:

oh
  3:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, who is this Shannon? Someone Welsh?
  3:31pm
Wha:

"Paradise people." How could I forget.
  3:32pm
PMD:

Sorry I'm late to the party... Hi Irwin!
  3:33pm
Robert:

Thanks. That one I'd known only as a jingle (background music, really, in a commercial) for White Owl cigars. Or maybe it was another brand.
  3:34pm
v k:

bad ass tune - "It's Nice to Have Things" - trying to figure out if lyrics r deep or i'm overly pensive
  3:35pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

did he just say "a piece of ass"? I pray nobody else heard that in the office here.
  3:35pm
Robert:

The lyrics made more sense in the cigar ad:

"To really appreciate our cigar, you've gor to smoke one of theirs.
"Take one puff of theirs, then take one puff of ours, that's the test."
  3:52pm
ellior:

Good drivin under cumulous clouds music l10-11 that is....
  3:57pm
ebay:

Calling all Jandek obesssives/completists!!! Comes complete with openended admission to a closed ward, so you have time to admire and listen to everything! :-)
  4:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

Bad Sneakers! I just made a fairly good "instrumental" reduction backing track of this with Audacity.
  4:02pm
its me nate:

Poor Pandamans, first he missed out on Amanda, and now Steely Dan
  4:02pm
Popo:

steely dan, I had no idea you were one of those!
  4:04pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

why does this remind me of Blondie?
  4:05pm
v k:

Arcade Fire question: i enjoy this band; but how in the world did they go from ~indie to selling out MSG overnite? is this the best self-promoting band ever? how did this happen?
  4:05pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: It's usually Win who sings for Arcade Fire, first time I heard a female singing with them. I myself didn't know who this was until I checked.
  4:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

@v k: Industry buzz combined with AF's willingness to promote: in '07 they were an officially declared "NEXT BIG THING" and so get all these interviews and covers of mags. You just KNOW when someone's been declared one. I myself think they're good but overrated. (Look at today's show title: obviously this then is the only good track from their new album!)
  4:08pm
Green Day:

@ v k -- Dunno, beats us.
  4:09pm
drewo:

Great show Irwin, thanks.
Just back from 3 months away from NYC. I am very depressed. Thanks for lifting some of the gloom.
  4:09pm
wtf?!:

This is my first time hearing the much heralded Arcade Fire...blech...cheap Cocteau Twins...and not even good.
  4:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

Quiet down, Green Day! It was '94 when you were a NBT! And again in '96...and in '04/'05, and sort of in '08...look, you're not punk if you play the Tonys! So there!
  4:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

@wtf?!: (WTF is that name?) That song is not typical of AF's sound, but if you don't like that, then don't bother with the rest of their material, which is mostly below that one. 80s sound, ultra-compress it, call it "indie".
  4:13pm
Green Day:

Hey, this line of work doesn't come with retirement benefits. Gotta make hay while the sun shines.
  4:15pm
coolio:

word life green day - dont wanna be star-fade fire..
  4:16pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

is this a Bevis Frond cover?
  4:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

From the composer of "Rap! The Musical!" comes "Punk! The Musical!"

Oh, that's right, shit...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Idiot_(musical)
  4:17pm
Butthead:

Heh heh, hey Bevis, you're covered in Mary Lou Frond.
  4:19pm
Bevis:

heh heh...Cool...
  4:25pm
Laura L:

Thank you! The book really is insanely great. Go ahead, people, spend your hard-earned dollars--buy the book and be happy.
  4:26pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Uncle Bob!
  4:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

The Lampoon fake yearbook is superb--lovely for humor both subtle and blatant.
  4:29pm
David:

I missed AMANDA!!! noooooo!
  4:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

The BB was just in the wrong era--now in the 90s when they were competing along Grunge bands and still acting like they did on the show, that was funny!
  4:31pm
Brady Bunch:

At least WE never sold out.
  4:35pm
Partridge Family:

We were cooler
  4:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

LEONARD!
This is more country than usual, musically almost a bit like Kristofferson.
  4:39pm
Irwin:

I think Emmylou covered this
  4:39pm
Aharon:

Not that I don't like this, but why do about 2/3 of Leonard Cohen songs also sound like brilliant parodies of Leonard Cohen songs?
  4:39pm
Bob Zimmerman:

Cohen copies himself? You mean after he copied me first?
  4:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

By the end of Cohen's song, I say it's more Western. Country AND Western, you know, both kinds! Still, Emmylou would do a great version of that.
@Aharon: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery :)
  4:47pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Broadcast!! I love Trish!!
  5:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

Vashti Bunyan's song!

Thanks to Irwin, I can get informed of great artists without having to learn about them from commercials (as I first heard Nick Drake and Vashti).
  5:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

Encore from The Streets! Keep it up!
  5:19pm
Ike:

Hi everybody! What a stressful day. I'm glad that's over! Whew! Time to celebrate. Oh and I'll defend Arcade Fire. Their "Funeral" is (probably) my vote for best pop/indie album of the 00s.
  5:25pm
David:

OMG YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!
  5:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

Brenda's had enough -- but Matt hasn't!!!
Brrrrrriiiing it Amanda!!
  5:27pm
KC in MKE:

The afternoon just got better
  5:28pm
David:

"Sniff it Mama!" LOL
  5:28pm
Exception:

The rest of this Amanda album does *not* suck.

ROOFLESS:

What's the Amanda story? I always hear her on WFMU but my web searches have only led me to a relatively uninformative MySpace. Is this some noise guru's kid or something?
  5:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Roofless: Amanda IS the noise guru. AND the kid. And the GURU. And the NOISE.
  5:32pm
David:

Is she on Facebook?
  5:32pm
Confusedus:

Amanda is a blatant rip-off of underground purk nonagarian Miranda
  5:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Exception: Correct! Although strictly speaking, several tracks of this album have been played on WFMU, and the entire album probably will be soon. So, it's not really "a great track" but several over succeeding shows.
@David: YES! You can join the Amanda group!
  5:34pm
David:

What's it called? Imma look for it now
  5:42pm
MrFab:

I remember that TW episode. Good soundtrack, typical of the era.
