This is not pop. Listen to me. This is hip-hop. Listen to me. And that photo on top of this week's playlist? Taken by Adrees Latif/Reuters and culled from yesterday's New York Times it is the Central World department store burned in Bangkok on Wednesday after antigovernment protesters set fire to it. I chose it because it is such a striking image......But I digress. Only 3 weeks of shows (including today) left for this Autumn/Spring WFMU season of "Put The Needle On The Record". June 11th the final show is the 4th Annual WFMU Graffiti Special, June 4th is the 80's tech retro show with Dave Tompkins and Jason Bitner as guests, and next week (May 28th) this show will be preempted by WFMU's live remote from the Primavera Fest in Barcelona. And today? Today is all music - first and last half hours (3 to 330pm + 530pm - 6pm) with two hours of guests (NYMCs Junk Science, Homeboy Sandman, and Prop Anon plus a call in from Iowa emcee Coolzey) freestyling and talking a bit and playing brand new tracks off their respective new joints.......Oh and at 419pm we will go out the back to listen to Barry Manilow 8-tracks and JUST SAY NO to something.....not quite sure what......THANK U for listening to WFMU.
