Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from January 5, 2010 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Listener comments!

  3:07pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Scuzzy New Year to 'ya.
  3:09pm
J-Mar:

Thanks for playing Sandy Bull. He lived in Nashville for some years, and I had the honor of hosting him on the radio when I was a DJ for a spell (back when our college station would let folks from the community on the air). He played the oud. It was awesome.
  3:11pm
boil:

Hi folks, I tuned in a little late--which was the song with the slide guitar n' tremolo, Sandy Bull or Rowland S. Howard?
  3:12pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

they both seemed to have trem, but I think you mean the first tune, by Sandy Bull.
  3:12pm
BT:

Happy new year everyone.
  3:13pm
boil:

Thanks, DCE.
Thanks, BT, you too.
  3:18pm
da$:

Roland Howard was one wicked guitarist. I hadn't heard about him dying last week. RIP
  3:24pm
Dave B:

just tuning in, and what a pleasant surprise to hear The Heavenly Music Corporation.

This station rules.
  3:27pm
herr noiser:

the most recent reissue of No Pussyfooting contains a version of Heavenly Music Corp. with the tape run at half speed - haven't gotten around to playing it yet , but I'm convinced it's aweseome nontheless
  3:40pm
BT:

Yep, and backwards (Eric, guessing that's you posting)....
  3:42pm
herr noiser:

caught! that's me....happy new year Brian...
  3:43pm
north guinea hills:

i have the said reissue of no pussyfotting, and yes, both the half speed and backwards versions are completely awesome!
  3:43pm
BSI:

hey wow, the jackson pollock cassette...... Isn't this actually Psychodrama, or somehow connected w/Psychodrama? Or is this my old false-memory syndrome again?
  3:50pm
Ike:

Salty savory new year!

Nice sounds.
  3:51pm
?:

"did you eat-y your sweet-y?"

  3:55pm
Ike:

Oh so THAT'S the guy who says, "It's Friiiiiiday! Yayza yowza wowza bowza!" Cool.
  3:55pm
Grandpa Scorpion:

Interesting about NP. I had a cassette rip of a cassette that I played a lot. When I finally heard it on CD in the early 90's, it was a letdown. It sounded so much better in poor fidelity somehow.
  4:00pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Grandpa Scorp, not sure what you're referring to with NP, but I'm the same way with St Vitus--been listening to a poorly dubbed cassette for 20 years now, and am afraid to get the reissue!
  4:01pm
Grandpa Scorpion:

:)

Fripp and Eno: No P-Footing
  4:02pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

you can say PUSSY here.
  4:03pm
joe yoga:

stick with the cassette! re-dub it before it dies!
  4:07pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

third-gen cassette, hmm...might be all I hear is HISSSSSSSSSS!
  4:09pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

shit, I just realized, I have cassettes dubbed from my folks' 8-track collection that i still listen to once in awhile (ie, Concert for Bangladesh and Janis Joplin's Pearl). Now they sound just awful, but it's such a part of my growing up, that sound.
  4:12pm
joe yoga:

nothing i love better than the moment after pressing play when the hiss comes in.
  4:15pm
67tele:

speaking of cassettes, Brian I was wonderi
  4:18pm
67tele:

speaking of cassettes, Brian I was wondering if you got the casette "3 Legged Lunch" by the Shambles (Denver, CO - not the other guys) that I sent recently. It's DIY from the 90's
  4:20pm
BT:
