June 13, 2009

If you look at the summer schedule you’ll notice that I’m not there. After years of doing this week after week (and for 5 years here at WFMU) I thought it might be interesting to see what regular folks actually do on the weekends. I’m aware that there might be side effects during the next few months (blaring Tuvan throat singers back to back with psych music out my front window and giving station IDs at the top of every hour between 2 and 6 am comes to mind) but I’ll steel myself against the temptation and try to get through it. This in no way indicates that I’ll be leaving the station, and I hope to be able to do fill-ins all over the FMU map in the months ahead - which is where you, my devoted listeners, come in. If any of you might be interested in the fill-ins that I’ll be scheduled for, drop me a line and I’ll be glad to keep you up to date. I wanted to thank everyone for tuning in, from the hipster Europeans nibbling on scones and sipping exotic breakfast nectars to the inebriated and/or under-medicated stateside night-crawlers phoning me from a dark room whilst taking a toke from their final night’s fatty - all expressing your appreciation for whatever noises I’m might have selected to keep ME amused, interested, and awake. Thanks for your communication and participation. Hopefully I’ll be a regular again sometime soon… in the meantime I still got next week’s show before the new season begins so please stay tuned.

Hi Bill,

I dread the return of my alcoholism, now that I've no reason to get up early Saturday morning. I wonder what it'll be like, living on the street again, now I'm that much older and more vulnerable!

Sat. 6/13/09 2:11am From: Bill Mac

Likewise, Larry. I've been on the air in a variety of forms since 1991, so I wonder what it'll be like to have - gasp - free time! I should be around here though so stay in touch...

Hi Bill,

I understand what you mean. That sense of freedom after so many years. Put me on your list should you get some fill-ins. Because of this I'm going to have to go now and get a life!

Hey Bill,......life is change! We enjoyed your Programm everytime, especially having breakfast with our now 8 weeks old son in the morning in Germany. Often the sun went up with a good track from you. We hope you did the best way for you and wish you all the best...! Hope to hear you from time to time.

Thanks Michael,
I think I needed a break, but this is not something I can just walk away from. I was probably as entertained by how things sounded and how they fit together during the shows as you were. It's why you do radio. Anyway, I wish you and Birgit much luck and happiness raising your baby. It's a good thing you're doing. Enjoy it...
