Thu. 5/28/09 12:01pm From: Hatch

Helloooooooooooooo everybody.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:01pm From: Carmichael

Hi Hatch! Hi Nina!

Thu. 5/28/09 12:01pm From: Cecile

it's always a home run when you start with Nina.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:02pm From: Parq

From Nina's lips to the atmosphere's ears. But any day is sunny with a Hatch fill-in. Hyas on ya, champ.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:03pm From: Collin

Always a pleasure to hear you on the air Hatch

Thu. 5/28/09 12:03pm From: Cecile

two words for you, if you can fit him in.
Todd Rundgren. Trouble whetted my appetite.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:04pm From: Cecile

awesome. Love this song.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:04pm From: Carmichael

Boy, this is definitely pre- weed resin Wille.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:04pm From: Andy in Iowa City

Sweet start Hatch. And thanks to Annie for a great set as always. Happy day everyone!

Thu. 5/28/09 12:05pm From: Cecile

So does my dad. He loves that "cleanest dirty shirt" line.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:05pm From: annie

i was gonna say, this is pre-willy willy

Thu. 5/28/09 12:05pm From: Andy in Iowa City

Oops... meant thanks to Trouble. Duh! :)

Thu. 5/28/09 12:06pm From: Hatch

Thanks Collin... feels good to be back.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:08pm From: still b/p

I don't know...I think even in his necktie-sporting days, Willie was herbally gifted.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:09pm From: Cecile

Lou Rawls: you'll never find another voice like mine

Thu. 5/28/09 12:11pm From: Carmichael

Good Lord. I don't know how to feel about this song. John Hartford is either sniggling delightedly in his grave, or walking the earth looking for Lou, who I believe is also dead.

Gentle ... UGH! .... on my mind UGH!

Thu. 5/28/09 12:13pm From: Cecile

I watched South Park last night.
Kanye West: "I am not a gay fish!"

Thu. 5/28/09 12:13pm From: annie

dancin in the bathtub is the one i love.. at least you didn't hear it in an elevator

Thu. 5/28/09 12:13pm From: Webhamseter Henry

We prefer autoharp.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:13pm From: Janet H

Hello....

Thu. 5/28/09 12:13pm From: Cecile

commander in chief of my pimp ship
that is pretty funny.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:14pm From: annie

morning janet

Thu. 5/28/09 12:19pm From: annie

revisionist history!!! yay!

Thu. 5/28/09 12:20pm From: Parq

Hatch, during Dubya's reign, did you regularly have people assure you based on reliable inside information that Cheney was about to resign for health reasons? I sure did, and it never happened. And now the guy still isn't dead yet? I want a recount from his cardiologist.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:22pm From: Cecile

Cheney sound like he's the commander in chief of the pimp Ship of State.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:22pm From: annie

bulsh-it

Thu. 5/28/09 12:22pm From: Marshall Stacks

I hope they don't close Guantanamo Bay - until Dick and Dubya have had served out their sentences there.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:23pm From: Hatch

Yes Parq, for a time I too believed that we'd have VP Rice by the end of the Bush presidency.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:23pm From: Marshall Stacks

/have served/

Thu. 5/28/09 12:23pm From: dc pat

what a fucking bastard! He authorized torture, plane and simple.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:23pm From: Ike

Parq, he regularly rejuvenates himself by feasting upon delicious, delicious baby brains.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:25pm From: annie

pat... yes.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:25pm From: Cecile

this is an awesome cover

Thu. 5/28/09 12:26pm From: annie

my blood pressure goes way up when i hear his voice. just want to hit someone..

Thu. 5/28/09 12:27pm From: Parq

Honestly, I was skeptical even the first time I heard about Cheney's imminent resignation, and by the third or fourth time, it just seemed like wishful thinking.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:27pm From: dale

I second Cecile's opinion.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:29pm From: Ike

Annie, I was just about to say that too. I'm hard-pressed to understand the point of mixing his speech with T-Pain's boring mainstream hip-hop. Admittedly I didn't understand all the lyrics but unless T-Pain was singing about karma and cosmic retribution, that was not an interesting juxtaposition IMHO.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:29pm From: dc pat

same here annie.. there's nothing more un-American than the Republican Party right now

Thu. 5/28/09 12:33pm From: Janet H

Don't hate me b/c I voted for McCain....LOL
I'm still proud! I still love you guys!

Thu. 5/28/09 12:35pm From: Art Smass

So you're the one!

Thu. 5/28/09 12:36pm From: Cecile

oh, it's not your fault, unless you were a secret advisor to the President! Were you?

didn't think so...

Thu. 5/28/09 12:37pm From: dc pat

uh...actually it is your fault Janet. everyone that voted for those bastards after we knew what they were up to, sorry.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:37pm From: dc pat

but I don't hate you...

Thu. 5/28/09 12:38pm From: Cecile

Hey, how about those Mets?
Tomatoes?
Puppies?
Todd Rundgren?

Thu. 5/28/09 12:38pm From: annie

see, imho, they are all self-serving bastards. i'm still steaming at the fact that they have free health care for life

Thu. 5/28/09 12:38pm From: All those right wingers

It's Clinton's fault! And Jimmy Carter's!

Thu. 5/28/09 12:38pm From: Hatch

It's okay Janet, my parents voted for McCain and I don't hate them that much.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:38pm From: appeaser

cecile.. you rock

Thu. 5/28/09 12:38pm From: Laurie

Hi, Hatch.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:39pm From: bile b/p

Cheney....Runnin' jive on the jackass side. Whatta chunka cold clogged dangerous miscreant Darth Voodoo mook oil. A cinder block or dried barnacle has more appealing character and twice the soul.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:40pm From: Hatch

Hello Laurie!

Thu. 5/28/09 12:40pm From: doug from dc

Cheney is dead. His look-alike's contract hasn't expired yet, so he did the speech last week.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:42pm From: Marshall Stacks

His look-alike has the same ability to chill my blood while raising its pressure. It's uncanny.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:42pm From: Cecile

thanks, appeaser <s>

same here, Hatch. and the in-laws, too.

It was cute, though. My mother in law and sister in law were cautiously optimistic about Obama even though they voted the other way, "you know we kind of like him...it might be good."

Thu. 5/28/09 12:44pm From: dc pat

right you are annie...and Cecile does rock....and Janet probably rocks too...

Thu. 5/28/09 12:47pm From: Carmichael

Damn, I missed Animal Collective. Damn Damn.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:48pm From: Parq

Laurie, there you are - the right wing is splintered.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:49pm From: Cecile

I need to get that Venture Brothers sdtk for my husband, but I'll probably end up listening to it more.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:49pm From: Ike

Actually, if Cheney continues to run his mouth for many years to come -- well, we should only be so lucky. What a dreadful face and terrifying voice representing the R party, skeeving out moderates and potential new members! Bile B/P said it well. Cinder block, HA!

Doug from DC: ;) ;) ;) I like the way you think.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:49pm From: annie

gp- cool. george told me

Thanks Annie!

Thu. 5/28/09 12:51pm From: Francisco Franco

What he said.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:52pm From: Chevy Chase

Yes.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:52pm From: Dubya

I just wish I was stoned.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:52pm From: Garret Morris

YES, FRANCO IS STILL DEAD!!!

Thu. 5/28/09 12:53pm From: Bill Murray

is Chevy gone?

Thu. 5/28/09 12:54pm From: Franco American

Uh oh, Spaghettios.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:54pm From: Laurie

If I were actually in attendance at the Primavera Sound festival, I would have soooooo much ritalin and Red Bull and, I'm sorry to say, Sparks in my system.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:55pm From: JCityJensen

woo-hoo the HATCH)et( this pm - sweet!

Thu. 5/28/09 12:55pm From: Hatch

Don't worry Laurie, I'm sure Trent is getting enough Sparks intake for all of us.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:56pm From: Emily L

What's all this I hear that Frank O is still in bed? Why I heard him on the air at 7 AM just yesterday.

Thu. 5/28/09 12:58pm From: Captain Chaos

Dun Dun DUNNNNNNNAH - im gone too

Thu. 5/28/09 1:04pm From: Janet H

Here's your letter Hatch:

Dear Bastards,

Fuck off.

Sincerely,
Hatch

Thu. 5/28/09 1:10pm From: still b/p

Missed the dispute letter cause and criteria. Summarize again here..?

Thu. 5/28/09 1:11pm From: Hatch

I think I might take a slightly more subtle approach, but thanks Pat!

Thu. 5/28/09 1:11pm From: Marshall Stacks

p.s. Your mother!

Thu. 5/28/09 1:11pm From: Hatch

Rented a car. Tire blew out on the highway. Now they're telling me I have to pay for the tire... ?!?!??!

Thu. 5/28/09 1:12pm From: dc pat

Collection agency hasslin' Hatch for blown out tire on rental car. They want $100. You might want to take a look at the agreement you signed Hatch, see if there's anything in there about it.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:13pm From: annie

yeah, i'd read the fine print first.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:13pm From: Cecile

yeah, dcp is right, check it first.
Also if you communicated anything to the rental car agency, and if they were cool with it when you returned it.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:14pm From: Parq

Hatch, odds are your rental agreement provided for insurance with a $100 deductible. Did you rent with a credit card? If so, your card company may provide insurance that will cover the $100.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:16pm From: Hatch

I did rent with a credit card... good idea, thanks Parq.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:16pm From: annie

some insurance is optional, depending on the company. i always opt for it. you never know.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:19pm From: Marshall Stacks

I never get the insurance - my credit card covers it. Yours might too, Hatch (and Annie).

Thu. 5/28/09 1:20pm From: Bear

The music's not weird enough

Thu. 5/28/09 1:21pm From: annie

cash for everything, therefore,,, plan A

Thu. 5/28/09 1:21pm From: Hatch

About to get a bit weirder, Bear.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:22pm From: jay

almost every credit card covers collision but none of them cover liability. call the number on the back of the card and ask the nice lady in Oklahoma or India. my bet is you are covered.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:23pm From: GP

Hatch,
Next time don't use Uncle Vinnies Rental Kar Emporium, and go with a national brand....just kidding...just do what everyone else here is telling you, sounds like good advice.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:25pm From: dc pat

I still say send the nasty letter, then get your lawyer to threaten them with physical violence.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:26pm From: nasok

is this, umm, bristol palin? or, umm, jenny mccain?

Thu. 5/28/09 1:27pm From: Baba

Yo, Lord God! Wassup?

Thu. 5/28/09 1:27pm From: Those Who Disagree in the back of the Synagogue

whoever that was - she's out of the tribe - officially

Thu. 5/28/09 1:27pm From: annie

hell, why doesn't he nominate the lord god of israel, then?

Thu. 5/28/09 1:28pm From: Marshall Stacks

@Nasok: Same mindset, different messiah.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:29pm From: Laurie

Hatch, is this track chopped as well as screwed?

Thu. 5/28/09 1:29pm From: AnAnonymousParty

I like this Jim Nabors version of FIre & Rain.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:29pm From: Hatch

Nope, only screwed. Didn't have time to chop.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:29pm From: Carmichael

At this speed, the depressing lyrics go on even longer ...

Thu. 5/28/09 1:30pm From: still b/p

Smacked.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:30pm From: Hatch

I think that's probably how it actually sounded in James Taylor's head. On account of the heroin.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:30pm From: annie

ok, mind clarification time: wasn't there a time long ago in the 40s or so, that there existed 16 1/2 speed records?? i have this memory of that option on the record players.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:31pm From: annie

ok... 50s

Thu. 5/28/09 1:31pm From: dc pat

I thought it was 17

Thu. 5/28/09 1:32pm From: Jim

16-2/3

Thu. 5/28/09 1:32pm From: annie

i remember playing our 45s on it and guffawing.. and our 33s too

Thu. 5/28/09 1:33pm From: Carmichael

Yes Annie, there was. I have a record player from the 50s with 4 speeds: 16, 33 1/3, 45 and 78. Since it's a belt drive, your mileage may vary.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:33pm From: Carmichael

Don't start that game, Pat.

18

Thu. 5/28/09 1:34pm From: annie

whew... oh good. memory serves.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:34pm From: Steely Dan

Hey, 19.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:34pm From: Hatch

19?

Thu. 5/28/09 1:34pm From: doug from dc

As a kid, I had a turntable with these speeds. What was the 16 RPM for? I've never come across a platter recorded at that speed.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:34pm From: Steely Damn!

Bust!

Thu. 5/28/09 1:35pm From: Lang

I'm feeling this Iron Claw Hatchy

Thu. 5/28/09 1:35pm From: annie

they existed, to be sure. not many, though

Thu. 5/28/09 1:35pm From: AnAnonymousParty

16 was for something like "Books on LP', IIRC.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:35pm From: Lang

Aaaaaaaand my math question to post that equaled 666!!!!

Thu. 5/28/09 1:36pm From: Bee Gees

One.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:37pm From: Parq

Annie, have you ever heard Patton Oswalt's bit about the Chipmunks? FMU plays it once in a while at Xmas. He and his brother would play the Christmas song at half speed, so that the munks' voices would be normal Dave Seville voices and Dave S's voice would be this satanic roar.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:37pm From: 16

Hey, I can drive now!

Thu. 5/28/09 1:38pm From: 55

But you can't drive me.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:38pm From: Bond. James Bond.

Fire and Rain please, shaken not screwed.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:38pm From: new band names

satanic roar

Thu. 5/28/09 1:38pm From: annie

oh, yes. that's a hoot, parq

Thu. 5/28/09 1:38pm From: GP

Lang, I smell sulphur

Thu. 5/28/09 1:39pm From: 16

Yes, I believe that for spoken word you didn't especially need very high fidelity, and you could make the recordings run twice as long per elapsed trackage at 16 than at 33-1/3...

Thu. 5/28/09 1:39pm From: doug from dc

Yeah, I found something about 16rpm books on vinyl for the blind. And I found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2faYKXSKCRU

Thu. 5/28/09 1:41pm From: stingy d

Thu. 5/28/09 1:49pm From: Hatch

Annie, there is no petition. But you're always welcome to email "the powers that be."

Thu. 5/28/09 1:50pm From: Hatch

Yeah Meghan, it's on a compilation of Pakistani film soundtrack music. By far the best track on the album, but there is other good stuff too.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:50pm From: annie

how many names am i allowed to use, i have three so far...

Thu. 5/28/09 1:51pm From: "the powers that be"

Thu. 5/28/09 1:58pm From: still b/p

Yeah! Who's peelin'?!

Thu. 5/28/09 1:59pm From: Laurie

Did you guys see those naked pictures of the Hair cast?

Also, did you know Melvin Van Peebles produced the first incarnation of Hair? She used to date him, and she remembers hanging out backstage with him.

Thu. 5/28/09 1:59pm From: Laurie

Er. She = my mom

Thu. 5/28/09 2:00pm From: annie

they were artistically draped.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:00pm From: Carmichael

Hey! My hometown homies!!

Thu. 5/28/09 2:02pm From: Laurie

That's true. If by "artistically," you mean putting their arms and hands over their parts like the lady gorilla in that one video game I remember playing as a kid.

I felt really sorry for the people who were stuck on their own without other people's hands and other things blocking their bits.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:05pm From: annie

in my opinion, if it was a revival. then the poses should not have been so forced. should have been more in your face about it. and there is no bad-looking body in that group.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:06pm From: Ben VC

Ugh come on, I don't need to hear this rant.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:06pm From: Laurie

"Full name, of course, I always do that."

Thu. 5/28/09 2:07pm From: annie

well, a water dog seals it

Thu. 5/28/09 2:07pm From: DeemerDave

How many of you take this rant seriously?

Thu. 5/28/09 2:08pm From: zoot

Melvin van Peebles is great, but I think Joe Papp was the first producer of Hair and Tom O'Horgan directed. I may, of course, be mistaken

Thu. 5/28/09 2:09pm From: AnANonymousParty

What? Did I miss something? I was checkin' out Rush for a few minutes.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:10pm From: Rush

I was checkin' out Hatch. I say the same thing every day. It's a tape.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:11pm From: Cecile

Well, later folks.
I gotta fly the pimp ship to the drive-in and get lunch.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:12pm From: annie

Thu. 5/28/09 2:21pm From: jeff-a-chusetts

Thu. 5/28/09 2:24pm From: jeff-a-chusetts

and btw, hi hatch - great show!

Thu. 5/28/09 2:26pm From: dc pat

THIS is groovin!

Thu. 5/28/09 2:27pm From: zoot

Check out Melvin Van Peebles' performance in Robert Altman's misunderstood O.C. and Stiggs, also featuring the splendid King Sunny Ade

Thu. 5/28/09 2:32pm From: Marshall Stacks

O.C. and Stiggs was hilarious. But I think it helped to have read the stories before seeing the film.

I don't remember MVP in the film - last saw it a long time ago. Was he Wino Bob?

Thu. 5/28/09 2:32pm From: jeremy the listener

mmm bass. been a while since i heard some good bass

Thu. 5/28/09 2:32pm From: annie

i once berated a telemarketer for using the word "aksin'" stead of asking. he was speechless, almost..

Thu. 5/28/09 2:33pm From: annie

poor guy..

Thu. 5/28/09 2:33pm From: ned

^ you sound like a jerk.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:35pm From: fred

ned, who aksed you?

Thu. 5/28/09 2:35pm From: PMD

Hi hatch, sorry just tuning in. Had a conf call...

Thu. 5/28/09 2:36pm From: annie

i am a jerk how thought ful of you to notice.. <s>

Thu. 5/28/09 2:36pm From: dc pat

HEY! Lay off annie, ned!

Thu. 5/28/09 2:36pm From: zoot

MVP was indeed Wino Bob. I never read the stories. Always thought of O.C. and Stiggs as the high school version of the guys in MASH (Altman's movie of course, not that silly tv thing)

Thu. 5/28/09 2:37pm From: PMD

Jeez, if I have to stop the car...

Thu. 5/28/09 2:37pm From: ned

i was that telemarketer...

Thu. 5/28/09 2:37pm From: annie

it's all good, guys..i even have a sense of humour..

Thu. 5/28/09 2:38pm From: dc pat

nice one fred...why don't I have any tact?

Thu. 5/28/09 2:39pm From: Pepe Le Pew

Let me tell you this my friend. I am disco dancing now, no?

Thu. 5/28/09 2:40pm From: Baba

Members of the upper caste know when to use upper case.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:40pm From: Ben VC

Ooooh Milky Disco this is niiiice

Thu. 5/28/09 2:40pm From: AnAnonymousParty

Did you ever run across a Tom Mabe during your telemarketing career, Ned?

Thu. 5/28/09 2:40pm From: Marshall Stacks

Zoot, exactly what I was going to say. Like a teenage (Altman's) MASH.

I think the stories are available on the National Lampoon web site, if you're interested. My boss at the time lent me his Collected O.C. and Stiggs in book form (don't ask, I mean aks).

Thu. 5/28/09 2:43pm From: annie

yes but does she have a portugese water dog?

Thu. 5/28/09 2:43pm From: Laurie

Oh, I thought Clarence Thomas had the same background as Scalia. I mean, I thought they were twins.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:44pm From: drunk right now

Hatch, I love you, but less rants next time. Please?

Thu. 5/28/09 2:44pm From: zoot

Thanks, Marshall,
I will seek them out. My son, who is now 23, puts O.C. and Stiggs on our list of touchstone movies which also includes Buckaroo Banzai, The Graduate, Lord Love a Duck, Ernie Kovacs' tv programs...

Thu. 5/28/09 2:44pm From: jeremy the listener

this guy is lame. he's taking things out of context

Thu. 5/28/09 2:45pm From: jaypee

Who's the ranting guy?

Thu. 5/28/09 2:45pm From: ned

I say more rants, tap into the 2012 apocalypse vlogs.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:46pm From: Ben VC

Man now this is bringing me down.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:46pm From: Mom

Go to your room!

Thu. 5/28/09 2:46pm From: jaypee

PS, Hatch, I've missed you.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:46pm From: channeleing kenny g

Thu. 5/28/09 2:48pm From: dc pat

Just found out my neighbor has been quarantined in China because some one may have had pork flu on his flight there.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:49pm From: annie

bummer, pat.. how long now?

Thu. 5/28/09 2:50pm From: stubbly chef, cigarette hanging from lips

moo flu pork, comin' right up.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:50pm From: PMD

DC Pat - I heard that on TOP. Poor people - that long flight and they'll have ONE day to be tourists.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:51pm From: zoot

Hey dc pat,
My wife used to teach at the Barrie School in MD. A bunch of her former students are stranded in China..

Thu. 5/28/09 2:54pm From: dc pat

I'm not sure of the details but they just got there and were sent back to their hotel rooms and can't leave now--armed guards at the elevators. Suppose to be a week trip but it looks like they're going to be stuck for a while.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:54pm From: Hatch

Thanks so much for listening everybody, hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Thu. 5/28/09 2:55pm From: annie
