Playlist for Bryce - October 17, 2008

Fridays Noon - 3pm on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

First comment! Woo hoo!

Fri. 10/17/08 12:21pm From: Tom (The Bactrian Support Network)

NICE start Bryce . good show as always man.

Fri. 10/17/08 12:25pm From: jk

Hey Bryce-
I loved the Albanian 78s you played last week, but couldn't find track info on them. Frustrating. Until this past weekend when by chance I found a double lp at the goodwill called "stricktly Albanian" that had them all. Hooray! thought I'd share.

Fri. 10/17/08 12:30pm From: Parq

Been hoping for an extended Rădulescu feature; I've read about him, but haven't been familiar with his work.

Fri. 10/17/08 12:31pm From: bryce

and it was right next to the 16 vol. set of Albania Mania 8-tracks!

Fri. 10/17/08 12:34pm From: annie

wow, the music is bouncing off the walls; and all that from two simple computer speakers.. can't wait til i hook em up to the real speakers!!

Fri. 10/17/08 12:38pm From: bryce

parq— yeah, been meaning to, since he passed a couple weeks ago. he was really great....

annie— can you imagine being in the room? it's something like 70 flutes.

Fri. 10/17/08 12:38pm From: jk

the albania mania set was pretty picked through, but the Grecian Yearning 45s were intact.

Fri. 10/17/08 12:39pm From: annie

word up, bryce; it is eerie... way cool

Fri. 10/17/08 12:41pm From: bill

according to wikipedia, it's 40 flautists w/ 72 flutes - which presents an interesting mental picture

Fri. 10/17/08 12:44pm From: Parq

Bill's got a point -- like Rahsaan on a cosmic scale.

Fri. 10/17/08 1:02pm From: north guinea hills

more radulescu please!

Fri. 10/17/08 1:03pm From: max

i like it when he feels like yelling things

Fri. 10/17/08 1:04pm From: bryce

did somebody say radulescu?

Fri. 10/17/08 1:04pm From: annie

thanks for the music, back to garden work.. gonna put the speakers out the window..

Fri. 10/17/08 1:06pm From: bryce

nice!

and plants love radulescu.

Fri. 10/17/08 1:12pm From: bartelby

You wouldn't believe the difficulty in getting bus directions to Engelwood, otherwise I would have tuned in earlier--sounds good

Fri. 10/17/08 1:25pm From: bryce

ohhh yes i would.

unless you happen to get NJT rep. #99 on the horn. used to swing by e. orange to volunteer, 10 or 15 years ago. i think sergey brin installed ethernet ports on her head.

"ask for me! 99!"

Fri. 10/17/08 1:33pm From: Richard

Yeah Horaţiu! He's fantastic!

Fri. 10/17/08 1:33pm From: Cecile

is this prepared piano? Pretty cool...

Fri. 10/17/08 1:34pm From: Richard

I just tuned in, please say his name on air so I can finally know how to pronounce it ;)

Fri. 10/17/08 1:38pm From: bill

it's a "sound icon" - a piano turned on its side and played by a standing person doing stuff directly to the strings - maybe Rădulescu invented the sound icon? dunno

Fri. 10/17/08 1:38pm From: bryce

hey, cecile!
yup... it's 16 grand pianos turned on their sides. radulescu called 'em "sound icons"

richard,
fucked if i know! i'm gonna figure that shit out right now. i've got 21 minutes.

Fri. 10/17/08 1:39pm From: bryce

i can't tell where bill ends and i begin

Fri. 10/17/08 1:40pm From: Cecile

thanks, folks!

Fri. 10/17/08 1:41pm From: Richard

Haha, best of luck mate!

And yeah, that's a real interesting piano technique

Fri. 10/17/08 1:43pm From: bill

sorry bryce, i'm kind of a geek on this stuff - but 16 pianos ... yu can see why it's not played live too often

Fri. 10/17/08 1:58pm From: Richard

Great job. I'm impressed with your tongue to say the least.

Bummer to hear he passed away though.

Fri. 10/17/08 2:13pm From: bird

braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiinnn

Fri. 10/17/08 2:30pm From: Richard

By far the best part of this recording is I'm having a difficult time discerning which sounds are made by the vocalist, and which sounds are made by the guy running the weed whacker outside my building.

Fri. 10/17/08 2:34pm From: silence

sounds like you're having a John Cage moment

Fri. 10/17/08 2:34pm From: bryce

he's probably listening on headphones.

Fri. 10/17/08 2:39pm From: Parq

That kind of experience has long been a part of my FMU listening. If I had $5 for every time I've had to turn off the radio to be sure, I could make a marathon pledge that would set some sort of record.

Fri. 10/17/08 2:45pm From: Kăenzoscu

If WFMU had $5 for every time you turned off the radio, we'd all be listening to Horaţiu Rădulescu.

Fri. 10/17/08 2:58pm From: bryce

if i had $5 for every piano Radulescu weed whacked, i could get my monobrow threaded and buy an ice cream.

Fri. 10/17/08 3:01pm From: Parq

Dang, 3:00 already? Great show. Bring it on, Bill.
