Hello all, Yep, today is my last-ever regular weekly show. It's been a great 18 years! The thing is, though, I'm leaving -- but I'm not going anywhere. I'm moving to Portland (OR) sometime next year, but will be around for a good while yet -- and hopefully doing my fair share of fill-ins. SO, please stay tuned....

Tony, you have been one of the real class acts of WFMU for such a long time. I have heard more "new" (new to me) music on your show than any other. You are the consumate professional & I have enjoyed the emails we have shared over the years. You will be very much missed, first Charlie Lewis and now you...enjoy the new chapter in your life waiting for you.

You should have had someone there with you today to do the typing while someone else pours the Champagne, etc... You shouldn't be alone on such a day. It's so sad for so many of us, buddy. You're part of many people's lives.

TONY! I just discovered your show since moving to NYC. You will missed!Any chance your going to have a moving/record sale before the big move? Sorry, that's not that point. the point is that you are one the best dj's in the history of the world! Have fun in Portland!
|
Tue. 9/30/08 2:15pm
Lady Rachael:
Tony, you are irreplaceable. It's weird how I feel like I know you simply because I've heard your voice on the radio for years. I feel like I'm not only losing a great DJ, but also a friend. Hope that's not too creepy. Good luck in Oregon!
|
Tue. 9/30/08 2:16pm
jim frm b-burg:
Tony, why are you moving to Portland anyway (or is that private)? Is there any chance you will be doing a show there?
|
Tue. 9/30/08 2:19pm
Tony Coulter:
Yeah, I'm moving for personal reasons. I do hope to get a show there, though...

Tue. 9/30/08 2:20pm
R. P.:
In the year that I've been listening to WFMU, your show has become my one of my top favorites. Your playlists embody the free-form concept. I've been looking forward to Tuesdays lately for your show and Hatch's as well. I'll miss both. You're going out with a fantastic set, too.
|
Tue. 9/30/08 2:24pm
jim frm b-burg:
Yes. That would be great if you get a show in Portland. I can't see your talents going to waste! You will have to let us all know if this happens so that we can listen to it on the net if possible.

Jeff M:
I've long been in awe of the sheer depth and breadth of your musical knowledge. Even though it's always a crapshoot whether I'll enjoy any particular show you do (I'm totally digging this one), I just put that down to narrowness in my tastes, rather than assuming there's anything less than excellent about your shows. It's always been great just to know you're out there discovering stuff, some of which will filter back through the general WFMU culture. So I'm selfishly sad that you'll be leaving, but I assume you have an excellent and inspiring personal reason to slope off to the other side of the country. I hope to hear more from you as you do fill-ins through the next season, but mostly... good luck!

Thanks for a great run, Tony! Out here on the left coast, my Squeezebox alarm's been going off in the middle of your show since I got it, (a sometimes disorienting experience, but definitely an eye-opener). Any thoughts given to getting a show on DFM-RTV after you've made your move? They seem to work with remote djs (I know DAS has been doing a weekly show from the Bay Area).

It's no overstatement to say your program has changed my musical life. Please let us know, once moved, when you are settled and broadcasting on the web again. Until then I appreciate and encourage the fill-ins. Hope you can at least update this page about your endeavors with pointers to new streams. (You need a website, blog, or myspace page. Else be Googleable.)

Dang, first I heard of this (my head has been in the sand and I lost track after the schedule change). Yours is one of my favorite programs - incredibly eclectic stuff. I've even sat in my car for a half hour listening to a set play out after I'd gotten where I was going. Guess the archives will have to do.

Hi Tony! I am from Hamburg, Germany and i want to congratulate you for your wonderful shows (and thanks to WFMU for keeping them as playlists....awesome service!!!). Like one of the previous posters, I wanted to tell you that you have changed my life as well with your mindblowing broadcasts. I think the first time I came across "Tony Coulter" was when searching the web for Xhol Caravan...and I found that amazing special broadcast. blew my mind! as well as this one....i am a musician from Germany and thought I knew a lot. half of this music is absolutely new to me, thanks. You will be sorely missed. Greetings from Hamburg, STAYFREE, OLVE
