Orchestra di Rockford Kabine  monroe   30 Invalid Italian Movie themes    This new CD is straight outta the inspring & vast new music bins in the huge WFMU music library, which to get into there in the first place was tirelessly tracked down by WFMU Music Director/Program Director Brian Turner. Like much of the music played today this is a new release culled from the library (where so much work goes into maintaining and constantly filling with new music from alll over the world - Do you know how much trouble it takes to track down some obscure German experimental limited pressing 10" for example? A whole fuckin lot - But the reason I mention all this is that it just hit me that in addition to all of the cool-ass listeners who are a part of WFMU - and without whom the station would not exist - also too without all of this amazing, constantly updating, new oft-center/outsider music in the vast library (thanks mainly to Brian Turner - who you can hear doing his own killer show on Tuesdays 3-6PM EST) we wouldn't exist in our current state. So a BIG FUCKIN SHOUTOUT to BRIAN TURNER and all the WFMU LISTENERS........HELL JEYEAH!!!!!!!!!!  2007  *   0:22:03 (Real)

Four Tet  smile around the face       and for those who are keeping score the little bit of a record(s) for about 30 seconds - thrown in before this Four Tet track kicked in was two noise records (with effects added) plus Mott The Hoople "All the young dudes" on LP slowed down to -8      1:08:58 (Real)
Otis Jackson Jr  free son     Stones Throw  and for those keeping track wondering what the three sources played for about a minute before this - it was two bits off the 500 Locked Grooves LP, me moaning on mic with SFX, plus (the main part) the voice & whistling - off a non labeled CD - not labeled coz I failed to do so....oops sorry!.....But I gotta tell ya: sometimes it gets really challenging juggling playing music and trying to type in all the music info about songs (on time to accompany the acculplayist in real time) live during these shows.................    *   1:15:07 (Real)
DJ ALF  4:19       where da weed at?      1:19:59 (Real)
DJ 4AM (Dopestyle)  the little outro       DJ 4AM is actualy Jason Chavez who does the next (vocal) track also. In between these two tracks were three sound sources: me moaning on mic with echo added, a sound looped, + a sound bite from the film "Vinyl" - jacked live in the mix straight off YouTube - Note the only problem I find with mixing in live YouTube for sound is that sometimes the levels are too low.....  2007  *   1:22:09 (Real)
Jason Chavez  my name is jason chavez and I hate you   Put the needle on the record: 2007 Global Warming/2007 WFMU Marathon mix    This was recorded live on a show I did on KALX Berkeley about four or five years ago with DJ Pone cutting up in the background.      1:25:30 (Real)
the TAOLB project remixed        from videos posted on YouTube c/o artists out of Richmond, CA who are part of the TAOLB project - all African American adult artists who were interviewed about their earliest artistic inspiration. If you go onto YouTube and do a search under "TAOLB" you will find these really engaging interviews - about 30 or 40 in all. Note that this kinda ties in with the COMMENTS theme from last week's show in which I invited listeners who are artists of any kind who listen to WFMU for inspiraton as they do their art.....      1:31:18 (Real)

Fri Nov. 2, 2007 4:04pm From: Listener Dave from NH

First vinyl I got (that I can only vaguely remember) was some Batman record that I played on my Fisher-Price record player. The first cassette I got was, uh. Some Weird Al Yankovic album? I can't remember which. I think the first CD I bought with my own money was Megadeth's "Rust in Peace".
I'm looking forward to the record fair way more than I'm looking forward to getting up at 4 AM to grab a bus down there.

Fri Nov. 2, 2007 4:18pm From: Sean...from Iowa

The first music I had was a cassette of Purple Rain given to me by my sister.

The first music I bought myself was ATCQ People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. Also on cassette. First CD was the Twin Peaks soundtrack.

I can remember these things but I don’t think I could tell you what the last music I bought was. It comes faster now and is muddled by the haze of adult life and other nonsense.

Fri Nov. 2, 2007 4:24pm From: Eamonn

first album was Joan Armatrading - Walk under Ladders) won at a bazaar. Then it was a steady diet of NOW! compilation albums for a few years (which were actually the first things that were bought). A flexi 7inch given away with some new magazine (can't remember the title) which had Style Council, JAMCs Some Candy Talking) might count as well

Fri Nov. 2, 2007 4:24pm From: north guinea hills

Fri Nov. 2, 2007 4:28pm From: Sean...from Iowa

What I've heard of Susumu Yokota's work tends to be hit-or-miss (I love "Sakura," but was bored to tears by "Love or Die"), but I like this song you're playing right now!

If that's how good your premium is, then I'll make your show part of my next Mouse. I am one of the ex record store employees who love that Chavez rant!

Fri Nov. 2, 2007 5:43pm From: james

hey the story about the informant 'curveball' just broke in the UK, WTF I don't believe a word of it. for some reason when I read it I thought of you, when I clicked on the wfmu page you were on live. so I just had to comment.

I love Sole too, I know they're not really cool, but hey that's cool right, you don't have to be cool to be cool.

Fri Nov. 2, 2007 5:49pm From: james

oh sorry, first record I bought, Billy Joel's Uptown Girl when I was 9 years old. I wanted to be a garage mechanic like the guys in the video

Fri Nov. 2, 2007 6:05pm From: Ike

Hey, Weird Al Yankovic's album "Even Worse" (with "Fat" on it) was also my first album. It was an LP. I didn't even want an LP. My dad insisted it was better sound quality than a cassette.

Fri Nov. 2, 2007 6:16pm From: Ike

Hmmmm, I guess technical issues are delaying Bronwyn's remote broadcast from the Record Fair maybe?!? Or is Bronwyn playing this?

Hey wait, Weird Al was also Hatch's first record purchase? I can't believe I have a first record purchase in common with that dirty hippie who likes old fey twee hippie music!! 8^)

Hey Listener Dave from NH, you don't live in Lebanon/Hanover area, d'ya? I'm interviewing for a job there soon.
