Well, if the lyrics are any indication, then yes, they do complicate things.

I'm astonished at the so-called street improvements I've seen in my 'hood in recent years. They are clearly designed for people whose attention spans have evaporated thanks to smartphones. Multiple flashing lights, unpredictable patterns, more sensory demands likely to distract the drivers and pedestrians.

I live near what has very likely been the worst intersection on the planet, the interchange of the 80 and 580 at Gilman Ave. in Berkeley. It is being "repaired" with roundabouts, which I believe ultimately will improve the traffic nightmare, but perhaps not all that much.

Also, a whole bunch of so-called progressive Berkeley homeowners can be real NIMBY assholes when it comes to prohibition traffic on their streets. They introduce force detours from the grid so as to discourage drivers from even entering the neighborhood.

I don't think that's quite the case, ultradamno, on the Gilman project. I think the roundabouts (two, I think?) will slow traffic and allow the multiple competing on- and off-ramps to more safely handle their traffic.
