Cool! Saturday, filling in for Roger a couple people mentioned that the levels sounded low. Plus many of the tracks tonight may contain annoying artifacts.

I had a roommate about 20 years ago who would get VERY ANGRY if I tried to play The Shaggs around him, and would yell about, "THAT SHITTY BULLSHIT ALBUM" I would try to put on.
Avatar 8:08pm
Mr Fab:

oh I get it - no "music," all acapella tonight.

(Sorry, I'm a bit slow on the uptake sometimes.)

Nice vocal stem! I of course took apart Foot Foot as a test years ago , here it is with just vocals and drums: jhhl.net...

How do you do, fellow Shaggs?

Hi Webhamster Henry. I just learned about audio stripping last thursday and spent the weekend learning how to do it for today's show. It's amazing tech
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
Austin Rich:

Next week he'll play all the instrumentals, and we have to combine the two to hear the complete show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
Webhamster Henry:

↳ Barno in Akron @8:11
Everything is kind of off the shelf, it'd be great to easily train it on your own originals and mixes though. I have a lot of strange instrumentation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
Austin Rich:

I hear more music.

Ohio, of course
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm

We must repeat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm

I still think the first Devo album might be the greatest piece of 20th Century art. It's very near the best, anyway.

Ive been using the latest version of Ultimate Vocal Remover with a combination of models recommended by redditors

It's pretty good! I used a stripper to take the theremin part off of something for Rob Schmimmer so he could have a backup track!

"The Stripper Took My Theremin" sounds like a Tom Waits outtake.

Jaws scared me as a kid, before I'd seen it. When I finally saw it, it wasn't as scary as I imagined. But whatever it was I thought Jaws was like before I saw it... that terrified me for several years.

↳ Mr Fab @8:25
For you and Webhamster Henry, I'll add a DJ Cumberb... track with the vocal s stripped at the end of this set

Barno in Akron:

↳ Austin Rich @8:38
They were considered :)
Avatar 8:42pm
Mr Fab:

Back when i used to make mash-ups, we had to use mostly commercially available ones. Like, if there is a 12 inch single with an a cappella mix. It was pretty difficult to make your own at first, and you could usually tell, the sound wasn’t always so hot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
Austin Rich:

Next time, just isolate the Basslines.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Mr Fab @8:42
I was always so impressed with what people could do with what they could find in the wild.
Avatar 8:49pm
Mr Fab:

The first acappelas I made myself (decades ago) were with very early stereo recordings, with the vox in one channel, music in the other. I would unplug one speaker of my record player. Think I grabbed a Jan&Dean one that way. Old Skool rules!
Avatar 8:50pm
Mr Fab:

↳ Song: "The Starting Line (Vocals)" by "DJ Cummerbund"
Yes, that was great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Mr Fab @8:49
Hell yeah. I love stories like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
Webhamster Henry:

↳ Mr Fab @8:42
Yeah,, and with vocals in the middle, you'd kill them by flipping the phase of one of the channels...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Mr Fab @8:49
There were a lot of old albums with music and vocals separated across the stereo field. It's totally wild. (I think the Germs first single is like that.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Webhamster Henry:

Isolated Karen Carpenter is stunning!
Avatar 8:52pm
Mr Fab:

Yeah, some of the music hard left, the rest hard right, the vocal sitting square in the middle. That’s why I ended up making so many ‘60s mash ups!
Avatar 8:53pm
laurapanic:

old school home based stereo manipulations were fun. Also: 2 tracking with a double tape deck.
Avatar 8:53pm
laurapanic:

↳ Austin Rich @8:42
hahahaaa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Webhamster Henry:

Something I do a lot now is vocal substitution.
Have you heard these yet Mr. Fab? jhhl.net... ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Mr Fab @8:52
You should write an essay about the challenges of making Mash-ups back then. I imagine there's people who don't even realize.
Avatar 8:55pm
Mr Fab:

↳ Austin Rich @8:54
I would have to include legal challenges, too! Having your website repeatedly taken down, crap like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Mr Fab @8:55
Yes! I think people forget how easy it is these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Austin Rich @8:56
Or, because it's easy now, forget how hard it used to be.
Avatar 8:57pm
Mr Fab:

↳ Webhamster Henry @8:54
No, definitely saving that page. Is this using AI? I’ve heard some funny AI stuff, like an AI Eminem rapping about how much he loves kitty cats, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm

Thanks for the foolery Barno!
🍻😎🤙💨🍺
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm

It's text by GPT-2, realizations with elevenlabs and Riffusion, a bit of bed music / crowd noise. Some are TTS, some are substitution.
Avatar 8:59pm

Thanks for the fun
