This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

wow that's a great find - i actually haven't dug too deep into Passport yet but it's on my to-listen list so that's good to hear. I remember enjoying things off the first 2 LPs

there's a "dumb" element to library music which qualifies it as reified... imho

reified music

totally get that - very little is ever labored over, there's a sense of the spontaneous or readymade even tho it's all done by stables of interesting composers and great musicians

If DonaldDrumpf is the poor person's idea of a rich person ...maybe Library Music is a smart Artist's idea of dumb Soundtrack product

the big thing about library music is that it's a vast underworld, an unbelievable variety of kinds of music, dumb, smart, experimental, parodic - made by an often very small pool of talent

on a level, i think this is comparable to carl stalling
Avatar 9:23pm
Flash Strap:

but then sometimes you get these records where the artist clearly took his studio time to do a passion project - either a one-man experimental thing or a highly worked-over masterpiece - just because teh opportunity was there. and you have to almost deprogram from your library-expectations to see what an honest work you're hearing

Library's in a way even more Industrial than Soundtrack Music (which fascinates me for first off the wide open Palette - & then also the relation to Narrative &/or Image & so on) ...or aiming for Tropes they hoped would Sell - & @ the same time - it's for Films that were in a sense even more Imaginary...

...çause that's another great intrigue for the uninitiated like myself : what was the market Library functioned in ? How did competition relate to the aesthetic ? How did they aim for their targets ...& how well did it work ?
