I saw Z at BAM a few years ago. William Friedkin introduced it and talked about how much it influenced his work, especially the making of The French Connection. He singled out Theodorakis' score as one of the best parts of Z.

I temember seeing "Z" at the base theater at Fort Monmouth, NJ(now closed) in late summer, 1970. Very exciting film with real-world political intrigue. The score made it even moreso.

I lived in Thessaloniki right at the time Z was released. Pretty mellow in general. Actually a lot of popular support for the Junta; tho I m guessing the Yes or No election was rigged

Biggest wind gust on Mt. Washington in this storm so far this morning -- 132 MPH!
Blasts aren't quite up to that at my house, but got significant a'shaking and some the biggest-ever a'rattling of windows going on. Storm be NOISY, even roary outside. I think the lids on the wheely-bin recycling containers just got flipped up violently -- not real dramatic but an indicator of fury and direction when bigger-energy storms visit.

just remembered there was a good poker movie back in the 1820's featuring calamity jane, jesse james, jefferson, franklin, wild bill hickok, wyatt earp, doc holiday,...they were all very young, the remake was a musical...tarantino directed everyone dies at end great shootout..saw it for first time in film school

Cinn Kid is one of those movies in which they make NO real effort, as I recall, to give a period look to some of the characters, particularly women. Odd.

Big Hand For The Little Lady -- another poker-centered flick that's not really recommendable, unless you like a ridiculous 60s western card-scammin' "comedy."

Heaven's Gate is extraordinarily underrated film. I saw a version of it at Film Forum about 10-11 years ago. I was blown away by its vision. I don't understand where all the hate for it came from. I guess it fit the narrative of pretentious directors running amok.

Growing up in Laramie, WY in the 70's there weren't nuthin to do, but every Saturday the only theater in town would do a marathon of Abbott & Costello, followed by a Western, followed by a Little Rascals and then two Godzilla movies. It was the whole day and my parents loved it.

I love that! I have a very deeply etched memory of Laramie. In 1974 I took my first cross country trip with a friend. We spent the night in Laramie, and we went to breakfast the next morning at a cowboy diner. I had the worst Mexican food I had yet to experience in my young life.
