The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

When Bowie joined Iggy for tour dates in '77, he came on stage in a flannel shirt and jeans. So after seeing him on the Station To Station tour in his Thin White Duke mode, seeing him in the Iggy show was second time, 2 for 2, that I caught him in wayyyy dialed down mode, garb and appearance-wise, compared to earlier glammy arty splashy days when he was making his name.

In '73 Iceland eruption, an improvised emergency defense was cold seawater shpritzed all over the advancing tide of lava to slow it and redirect it, to protect a town and harbor. It was effective enough to avert the worst, and it was a remarkable and complicated, dangerous and many handed effort. Hoses and pipes and construction machinery atop still hot lava -- you had to be careful about your boots burning.

There's a pretty good sitcom called Everyone Else Burn in which the wife insists they go to a Japanese restaurant and the husband says "(I've never left this neighborhood) and you expect my taste buds to traverse continents?" later, after the wife explains she learned rudimentary Japanese for the occasion and says "arigato" he says "how nice of you to remember the waiter's name"
