Favoriting The Radio Is Broken with Rich In Washington: Playlist from November 3, 2023 Favoriting

The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

Have entire CD racks dedicated to now mostly out-of print releases from independent labels of long ago such as 21st Circuitry, COP Int. & Silent Records (out of SF), Reconstriction & DSBP, and lots of releases featuring Northwestern electronic artists on ADSR, Arts Industria, ArtOfFact, Flaming Fish and others.

I heard some interview subject say Manson wouldn't have had the enduring fame if he had in fact been executed. I don't buy it. The whole picture of counterculture association, messianic posing and persuading, celebrity links, sensational and savage direction of murder, the sensational trial and followers' sideshows, and books written shortly afterward all gave Manson's profile a sturdy durability that might have been different if they'd killed him, but wouldn't have diminished much, I don't think.

Also a middle-aged Psychedelic Furs, which I remember nothing about except vaguely being there

Negativland played a midnight show in our city council chambers... that was after Diamanda Galas played an old church... that festival was never that good again.

Keep in mind, I bought those CDs back in the mid- to late 90's & early 00's. Haven't been collecting that kind of stuff lately. Nowadays, my tastes have been attuned more towards vinyl from the 60's onward. Independent record stores had become an endangered species in my area for a time. But the good news is there are new stores cropping up here. So I may soon get back into the swing of record collecting again.

I can't judge the measure of evil, but of course we all recognize that evil doesn't exist. But if it did, among the top candidates in my book: Steve Jobs, maybe even Sir Tim Berners-Lee. These people have permanently fucked up our lives.
