we had a beagle growing up. his name was ralph and was a stray that showed up. father let him out every night and you could here him barking in the night while hunting. one night he didn't come home. didn't know if he encountered fou play or just decided to pick a new owner. we missed him. dogs and cats back then were always outside creatures on a farm.

Well there's "feral" and there's really feral. Some folks call any outdoor cat a feral, but a true feral literally thinks we're predators. They think our feeding them outdoors is part of an elaborate ruse to kill and eat them, so they're never going to trust us.

At my dear mother's and Bo the dog was barking at something last evening. It was a juvenile rail. Scooped it into a bucket and turned it loose in the cattails. I can only hope it found its family. I don't know if it's old enough to fend for itself.

True ferals...watch out.
Most have been outdoors a long time, maybe from birth &
They trust no human.

Rarely fully domesticated & if they are it takes a long time
