↳ Song: ""The Fortune Teller"" by "Candy Matson"
The final, final episode of Candy Matson... for a proposed "national" syndicated show, in pilot form, using generic NBC sounds, in a transcription disc form, rather than live. Sadly... the show wasn't picked up. But, we have this artifact!

I hope Candy has gotten divorced by the time of this pilot.

A different Rembrandt, too. Not sure I like the new voice. There's not enough clues in this episode to determine if they were still trying to suggest he is queer, but... it's still possible. We only have this sample to go on...

"Dimension X" and "X-Minus One" fans might recognize some of these music cues. They are from the same music cue set that NBC used to many of their shows... and were available for people to use when they were producing shows like this.

I really wish there were more shows like this. While I love detective shows, I think there are precious few with women in the lead role. Natalie Masters is so excellent in this role... I do wish there were more shows like this.

You know, if they made this show today, Candy and Rembrandt would be playful rivals for Mallard.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:23pm
Austin Rich:

↳ ImaginosBuzzardoDesdinova @9:22
Absolutely! People would have shipping theories for all the characters.
Avatar 9:24pm
Mr Fab:

"shipping theories"? Like, who would work for UPS?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
Austin Rich:

It is interesting to include the "assault" in this pilot, and I have to wonder if that is why the show wasn't picked up. While I'm sure Natalie (and many women listening) could relate to that scene of the gent kissing Candy against her will... but I could see NBC being cautious to pick up a show that would have scenes like that.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:25pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Mr Fab @9:24
Some super-fans online will "ship" two characters they wish were dating. (I think the "ship" phrase comes from "relationship.")

There is sort of a genre of X-Minus One shows, where at the beginning, they lay out the premise, and then the show executes that premise exactly as they said they would... and there's not really a lot of surprise to how it all turns out.

At the beginning, the voice over said that Cold Equations would lead to death in space. And then... the show does it's best to deliver exactly that. I don't think the idea of "spoilers," or to have truly surprise endings, was on the minds of writers in the 50's.
