	♥ 9:22am Zinn The Mood: Greetings Trouble, and Troublemakers. Great opener. Those ringing bells are so therapeutic. Were at the Int’l African Arts Festival in Bklyn last weekend. At the children’s area a Mama Patrice was leading the kids in all sorts of percussion instruments and healing stuff. One was a large metal bowl that she hit with a padded mallet, in which kids would stand and get the vibrations. Got to get in myself and loved it. Never thought I Ltd be the parent yelling to my kids to “turn it down.” Especially when it’s mostly The Beatles, the initial pathway to a lifelong deep passion for music. Alas, here we are… Hot as hell again. Not into it. Could use a Trouble rant on the obligatory societal pressures of always having to be doing something “fun” when the summer comes. This weather gets me in an HST vein, in which all I want to do is drink tall, cold cans of beer just to deal. For now though it’s the usual chicory espresso coffee and a smoothie. Later it’ll be a series of hitting various city parks in which to continually douse my head to stay cool. Good thing we have an excellent big sprinkler park in Astoria Park. Stay cool!

	♥ 9:44am Zinn The Mood: ↳ TDK60 @9:28 Hey TDK. It’s still faintly reflexive, even in me all these years later. That one is always expected to be on one’s way to the beach, or vacationing somewhere in the country (class pressure), kids must be in some kind of camp, we all must be barbecuing all the time - and then multiply that unspoken societal pressure on the holidays. This is where advertising is the most pernicious poison; even things like TimeOut magazine (which I stopped looking at a couple of decades ago) exist both for bourgeois braggarts who seal their status by attending all the coolest events endorsed by the hipster tastemakers, but also, I think, in a deceptive way it can have the opposite effect on those who don’t have the means to make them feel like they’re constantly missing out. I’ve learned to become more zen about it. Tie up a hammock, grab a few books, and just be in the moment. Yes, as Trouble just said, there’s an interdependence that we often are blissfully unaware of (but deep down do understand) that has to be continually buried by the capitalists who run the show. Or else we’d all question this system that breeds selfishness, cutthroat opportunism and he-man Individualism.

But my guess as what she means is: Convergence of factors: hot/humid; smoky; lots of "hot air" coming from reactionaries spouting "liberty" when they really mean tyranny; removing our hard-fought-for rights. Maybe? But maybe she just means CD Player 1.

I have a friend who after he husband's death, has reverted to a TV-free house. Yes, whe still has a computer, but she's not much on conversations about the latest binge watch, so we refocus when I bring up TV references, again and again. If anything, I feel a bit embarrassed (which is unnecessary) because I'm so culturally lazy.

Will just say briefly that when I worked in an office in the 90’s everybody was all aflutter about the last episode of Cheers or one of those shows. To which I admitted to someone that is never seen in at all (maybe a few seconds), and didn’t care at all about it. Definitely felt apart from the pack, but only in superficial ways. Of course to me it was a badge of honor. There was also the big huddling around the tv for the OJ trial. Which I saw not even one second of. Nope.

They had no television but they rented one so that the student would get a fuller cultural exposure for which she was quite appreciative. They returned the television when the student left.

	11:17am MattT: Then you try to keep up and find out that the Beatle Barkers isn't even pop culture. ... but seriously - I've been living with ~400W of power, no running water, and pooping in a bucket for 7 years while working in the corporate non-profit world and leading their digital stuff... man, the small talk gets weird. everyone kind of glazes over when I mention not watching shows (I haven't mentioned the poo bucket...yet). also feel like I'm seen as insane for not taking random ass international vacations.

	♥ 11:18am love2laf: I enjoy listening to what people are enthused about, if it's pop culture, or if it's not. I try hard not too sneer or look down on anyone. We can't all enjoy the same things, but we can listen.
	♥ 11:18am Ironside: I 1000% agree as well. It's actually what's made discovering WFMU over the last 2 years so musically healing. Before, discovering music I've never heard of would be through dismissive and snobby record store clerks, or acquaintances who were snobby in their own way "oh you haven't heard of .... (rolls eyes)" But WFMU, both DJ's and Commenters are so so welcoming and sharing. And I've discovered more great music here than all the snobby music folk in my life combine. It's been amazing.

Or even for fun try pointing out the necessity of incorporating ethics into things like whether your workplace should even use social media platforms that base their business model on hate speech and genocide. See how popular you are then! There are days when I'm all "Why is everyone talking about the same thing?" And then I realize it was probably a Twitter-based gush-up and lose interest. (That said, keep attacking boats, orcas. I'm rooting for you.)

	♥ 9:22am Zinn The Mood: Greetings Trouble, and Troublemakers. Great opener. Those ringing bells are so therapeutic. Were at the Int’l African Arts Festival in Bklyn last weekend. At the children’s area a Mama Patrice was leading the kids in all sorts of percussion instruments and healing stuff. One was a large metal bowl that she hit with a padded mallet, in which kids would stand and get the vibrations. Got to get in myself and loved it. Never thought I Ltd be the parent yelling to my kids to “turn it down.” Especially when it’s mostly The Beatles, the initial pathway to a lifelong deep passion for music. Alas, here we are… Hot as hell again. Not into it. Could use a Trouble rant on the obligatory societal pressures of always having to be doing something “fun” when the summer comes. This weather gets me in an HST vein, in which all I want to do is drink tall, cold cans of beer just to deal. For now though it’s the usual chicory espresso coffee and a smoothie. Later it’ll be a series of hitting various city parks in which to continually douse my head to stay cool. Good thing we have an excellent big sprinkler park in Astoria Park. Stay cool!

	♥ 9:44am Zinn The Mood: ↳ TDK60 @9:28 Hey TDK. It’s still faintly reflexive, even in me all these years later. That one is always expected to be on one’s way to the beach, or vacationing somewhere in the country (class pressure), kids must be in some kind of camp, we all must be barbecuing all the time - and then multiply that unspoken societal pressure on the holidays. This is where advertising is the most pernicious poison; even things like TimeOut magazine (which I stopped looking at a couple of decades ago) exist both for bourgeois braggarts who seal their status by attending all the coolest events endorsed by the hipster tastemakers, but also, I think, in a deceptive way it can have the opposite effect on those who don’t have the means to make them feel like they’re constantly missing out. I’ve learned to become more zen about it. Tie up a hammock, grab a few books, and just be in the moment. Yes, as Trouble just said, there’s an interdependence that we often are blissfully unaware of (but deep down do understand) that has to be continually buried by the capitalists who run the show. Or else we’d all question this system that breeds selfishness, cutthroat opportunism and he-man Individualism.

But my guess as what she means is: Convergence of factors: hot/humid; smoky; lots of "hot air" coming from reactionaries spouting "liberty" when they really mean tyranny; removing our hard-fought-for rights.
