	♥ 5:32pm prof.fuzz: ↳ tim from washington @5:27 the text has been in circulation since about 350 CE, and i translated a 1986 critical edition of it. the editor of that volume was able to collate most of the oldest surviving editions of it. @orthoF: i speak mandarin, and read both modern and classical chinese (the text i'm working on is in classical, aka "literary sinitic"). first year mandarin (at a reputable university) is a 6 credit hour course. native english speaker. i started learning chinese when i was 21.

But I also took a semester of Hebrew, and it seemed about as hard as Russian (less vocabulary in commong with English, but easier grammar than Russian--at least at the level I studied. I would guess I'd judge Arabic to be as hard as Hebrew. I'm not intmidated by the different writing systems, except the east Asion Chinese-ish ones where have to memorize a gazillion characters.
