	♥ 12:26pm Krys O.: Funnily enough, I was going to comment that INXS in its early phase reminded me of Ultravox post-John Foxx. I was in college by that time and already had eclectic tastes. I can't say that I read record reviews. I went by hearing songs or word of mouth from folks I trusted.

She came for a visit, and that was that. She moved here when she graduated, against her expectations, for sure and to my eternal gratitude.

	♥ 1:12pm ifeelfatnsassy: Lived in Ann Arbor for an academic year and was very happy to leave. Incredibly overpriced. Some very good restaurants, plenty of fun things to do, but holy moly it was like a cult of "Ann Arbor is so cool." I will say that the burger at Jolly Pumpkin is world class, though.
	♥ 1:13pm drr: Saw it a second time last week, on Kanopy (free). It's about office politics in a Village Voice type paper (but in Boston). Lots of early appearances from well-known actors (John Heard, Lindsay Crouse, Marilu Henner, Bruno Kirby, Jeff Goldblum, even an uncredited Willem Dafoe).

	♥ 1:20pm McGroovey: @Handy I've never been to Ann Arbor, but it sounds like Ithaca. Ithaca is a great place to live near, but I wouldn't want to try to make a living there. There are too many Cornell grads who still haven't figured out that there only jobs in education and food service.

	1:28pm Wild Neil\|\|Peace All: @Dano that's sad...of course a STEM degree would likely get you a better job at a startup or a company that actually makes something or does consulting. I think only PHDs can get a job in academia.
	♥ 1:28pm McGroovey: Ithaca has better restaurants than Syracuse, Rochester, or Binghamton, even though it's smaller. Rochester's music scene is the best of the 4, overall, though there are good bands in Ithaca, but maybe not enough good places to play. Rochester has the best record stores, though Syracuse has a couple good ones. Ithaca has one good one that I'm aware of. My friend works there.

I was in the eastside suburbs and didn’t even try to go Goner Records this time. I went to Consignment Music in Collierville, and ended up talking with the owner Evan Leake. He’s an old timer Memphis musician who played briefly in Big Star. He had some great stories. Than I sat in the store and played some great vintage Martins. A group of oldtimers came in and they were swapping stories about Stax, Ardent, Don Nix and stuff. I sat and listened for a couple hours. It was glorious.

UV-TV formed in Gainesville, Florida, in the mid-2010s, but by the turn of the decade they’d relocated to New York City. Their first release after moving to NYC, 2021’s Always Something, was one of EFD’s favorites of that year; they’ll play some songs from that album as well as some new songs from an upcoming release. Tune in for some post-punk jangle-drone!

The Prof. Fuzz 63 are a three-piece family band from just north of Dallas. They’re also literally a garage band. Their garage/practice space is adorned with photos of The Cramps, among others, and singer uses an old telephone handset for a mic. What else do you need to know? OK, they’re also playing May 22 at Berlin in NYC and May 23 at Finnegan’s in Hoboken.

Some very good restaurants, plenty of fun things to do, but holy moly it was like a cult of "Ann Arbor is so cool." I will say that the burger at Jolly Pumpkin is world class, though.

Rochester's music scene is the best of the 4, overall, though there are good bands in Ithaca, but maybe not enough good places to play. Rochester has the best record stores, though Syracuse has a couple good ones. Ithaca has one good one that I'm aware of. My friend works there.

I was in the eastside suburbs and didn’t even try to go Goner Records this time. I went to Consignment Music in Collierville, and ended up talking with the owner Evan Leake. He’s an old timer Memphis musician who played briefly in Big Star. He had some great stories. Than I sat in the store and played some great vintage Martins. A group of oldtimers came in and they were swapping stories about Stax, Ardent, Don Nix and stuff. I sat and listened for a couple hours. It was glorious.
