Scorpio emphasis - no wonder I love D.O. !...
Sun just barely in Scorp, not even one degree on Oct. 24th
- but also Scorpio Rising (not long after sunrise)
- with Mercury the Messenger & Venus the planet of Aesthetics & Sociability in Scorpio as well...
Scorpio of course is the Fixed Water sign of intense emotion & transformation here @ the Halloweeny time of year...
The Sun is basic vitality & identity - & the Rising Sign is Persona & physical manifestation - in this case the same sign. Mercury is how one speaks, writes & communicates - so in Scorp penetrating & sharp... Venus is the Harmonizer, & technically in her 'Detriment' in penetrating Scorpio...

  9:37am
Listener Robert:

How would you translate "Soigne ta droite"? My first thought was like "tenez le droit", "keep right" as a traffic direction, but then I thought better, "Guard your right(s)." And maybe the ambiguity was intended. But maybe it's an ambiguity only I injected.

"Soigner" has more of a meaning of care than "tener" would, but since they converge on carefulness, one might use it as a more emphatic version of "tenez" in the traffic situation, or if there were some approaching traffic literally on one's right. But, especially with the feminine "droite", it would seem to refer more likely to rights or what one is due in a legal or moral sense.

Hi, @Listener Robert! Per the wiki entry on the Godard film with the same name: "In boxing, Soigne ta droite is a trainer's call to "keep your right up". The title is a reference to Jacques Tati's first short film, Soigne ton gauche (Keep Your Left Up)."
  9:43am
Listener Robert:

Thanks, Mr. Golick, that's interesting, a meaning I might've put way, way down on the list of possibilities, not being into French boxing! If you're keeping your RIGHT up, you're probably a left-handed boxer.
Avatar 🦀 9:43am

Funny how this sounds more like a quintet for most of the song (Nature Boy).
Avatar 9:43am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...since 9 A.M. is just past Sunrise - the Sun, Mercury & Venus are all in the 12th House, the last House of Spirituality, institutionalization - things beyond one's control. Not uncommon for Artists one presumes... Yet in the Traditional Whole Sign House system - still the same sign as the Ascendant ~ Rising Sign of the basic 'personality' (to transpose meaning for a Program)... Venus in fact is so near the Ascendant we might as well say it is Venus Rising exactly. This infuses the entire Persona with Venusian qualities of Sociability & Aesthetics - remembering Venus in deep intense Scorp has a harder time it is thot being Her Harmonizing self than in other signs...

  9:51am
Listener Robert:

If I were a boxing trainer and wanted to say it in (non-native) French, I'd probably say, "Garde ton droit" or "Maintiens ton droit", but "soigne" does seem more intense or "involved". Still, the choice of "ta droite" rather than "ton droit" confuses me.

Enjoy your getaway, Doug! When I'm actually someplace quiet I find that I enjoy the peace and don't put on music as much: when I do, it's because I want to hear it and not because I want to block out the rest of the (urban) world.
