Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
Don't tell Courtney I'm tuned in. He would consider it treasonous. Not that he'd fire me. Fat chance. He understands the meaning of "indispensable." All good. Carry on, sublime Sir Gaylord.

Hi Gaylord and friends, happy Sunday from Brooklyn!
Lolabelle, I know it's been no small expense to you when you press up one-off non-78-issued songs to sneak past Courtney, like that copy of "WAP" by Cardi B, which you told him was actually Blue Lu Barker.
@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Indeed. The Everly Brothers are one of my favorite groups of all time. Still in a state of denial, so I will be deferring Everlys airplay till I can cope with it better. Till then, there's the show I did when Phil died: wfmu.org...
Really love that Yola, thanks Gaylord. Been playing a lot of Everlys today and a question for the experts here—I don’t know of too many other artists that have inspired other artists to do *complete* EP/LP tributes. I know of Lowe/Edmunds, Billie Joe Armstrong & Norah Jones, Chapin Sisters, and Dead Rock West (twice!) Am I wrong here? (quite possibly:)
Gaylord, I'd like to request The Ferris Wheel for if/when you get around to the Don tribute. I'm guessing without peeking at the playlist that you might have played it on the Phil pharewell show, but either way I stand by my request.
Does anyone know if Ennio might have done the soundtrack to Clint Eastwood's new western before he passed away? I doubt it, but how cool would that have been?
Gaylord, thanks in advance. It really is the greatest song ever recorded. I get mad just thinking about how good it is. That thing they do where they sing in unison and then suddenly break into the harmony mid-verse on "...and the diving bell" is so thrilling that it's kind of terrifying.

@coohjohn love that Hatfield cover LP and it did really make me reconsider those songs and Olivia Newton John as an artist
linda thorson made me go look and see if diana rigg had ever released a record which she sang on (since honor blackman had) and seemingly she released a single of forget yesterday and sentimental journey which harkit reissued on cd in 2002 with an alternate version of each and a very special sentimental journey (sing along without diana rigg) version. and i agree with tamar that that was a perfect set
I will add this about Tom T. Hall, generations of people learned valuable skills in the art of calling out PTA phonies they would have never gleaned without him.
@Joe R. - also Angelique Kidjo recorded her version of The Talking Heads - Remain in Light

Hi, Gaylord! Evening, all! Just back from a day at the beach out on Lake Huron. That Paul matched the relaxing mood of the sun, breeze and waves quite well.
greetings, Gaylord! Everyone!
been listening in lurk mode (working on a lot of boring stuff) -- loving your show, perfect soundtrack for this still-rainy Sunday evening :)
Another two hours of thrills and chills. Thanks Gaylord! Appreciate too the nod to Don Everly. Your Phil Everly tribute show was part of my deep dive into things Everly today. Really great. Take care all!
