i was definitely more on the new wave/romantic side with adman andt and flock of seagulls, edgier in high school was metal i didn't get good access to dark edge until college but i dove into siouxsie, nails, and backtracked through bouhaus and kraftwerk etc

the night Lennon was shot -- a lot of us just did not beleive it (i was in my last year of college) -- like is this just some sick publicity stunt??? (i think Andy Kaufman's stunts were an influence on our "thinking") . . . then my apartment-mates, our friends, all sat around the TV, as the awful REALITY sunk in . . . and we all just felt so f*cking numb . . . next day, "IMAGINE" and all sorts of other Lennon stuff had been spray painted all over New Brunswick
