i dipped into the inflatable squirrel carcass archives earlier this week and listened to a couple shows from feb of last year and was super nostalgic hearing about all the incredible shows happening at village vanguard, stone, barbes, brooklyn bowl, etc. then heard news of some venues in nyc slated to open at capacity as early as april. very mixed feelings about this!

M:

I’m nominating this set for a genius grant
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am
Scott67:

What a brilliant fusion of genre this is!
  12:47am
rich:

i thought the openings were 33% of capacity. if so there’s a couple of places i would enter: park avenue armory, roulette, and that might be it for the foreseeable future. the stone is too small, the village vanguard is in a basement, and all the rock clubs cannot prevent people from crowding near the stage.
  12:48am
rich:

hello m
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am
zzz:

right, not “capacity” rather limited capacity... not sure what that would mean for many of the venues i would like to visit the most. roulette is a good call. wonder if the stone could mage some fancy ventilation or something but don’t know what 1/3 is there, like 20 people

  2:57am
rich:

and that’s it for this week. thanks for listening everyone and have a safe, healthy week. the next two weeks are the wfmu fundraising marathon and we are going to have as much fun as we possibly can. it’s usually the time of year when this community can gather together and have a big celebration, but this year that obviously can’t happen physically. I don’t know about other djs but i’ve honed my online skills to the level where my desk (and I am sure other djs also) now looks like the desk of someone who builds computers out of spare radio shack parts and we are going to make this thing work like it’s never worked before with all sorts of unseen hiccoughs and sudden changes. it should be very interesting and fun. i like to consider the last night of the fundraiser as the beginning of the new year because it means more to me than some random day (one of the solstices is also a fine time to start a year as is a birthday) and the two weeks leading up to it are filled with fun, fun, fun, anxiety, sweat, beer, prizes, emotions, love, and the definition of the enjoying life. so tune in and enjoy the ride with us.
