Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Fri. 8/4/17 8:44am listener james from westwood:

Morning, annie and UM and all! Envisioning UM working out the kinks in the batting circle, and maybe stacking the Kinks near the record player!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/4/17 8:47am annie:

i've been so absent from the comments boards. been renning around mucho much. have all my stuff loaded at the space into which i'm moving.. even dragged the food from the old fridge. arranging a floor plan suits this jigsaw puzzle fan greatly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/4/17 8:49am Uncle Michael:

This show can't start a moment too soon. I mean it. If it starts too soon I might not have enough to make it through six hours.

Good morning, everyone. Moving sucks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/4/17 8:49am annie:

hey UM, you could just apply the "astronaut method" to your programming routine

Sheesh, this sort of sound was what my folks were into in the sixties. Obviously, it was the antithesis of what I liked. Now, I kinda go with smooth cheesy stuff.

Brian, if you're reading this get in touch.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/4/17 11:09am Uncle Michael:

I'm interested, Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/4/17 11:12am Stanley:

I see him eating his noodle soup in a Japanese style, bowl up to mouth flicking the noodly items in with his chopsticks and slurping away. I bet he'd be excellent at it.

Do you know how hard it is to floss your teeth and listen to the radio at the same time?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/4/17 12:53pm northguineahills:

In my experience, when speaking Spanish, the words are seldom the direct translation. It confuses the hell out of my when I listen to my friends in Mexico.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/4/17 12:55pm Uncle Michael:

Floss screws with the reception, Dean?
  Fri. 8/4/17 12:58pm Dean:

More like spittle screws with the laptop on which I'm listening, which makes me anxious, and then the floss ends up fraying. Meanwhile, I'm trying to pay attention to the music, which causes me to mess up the flossing, hence more spittle. Why must life be so tragically flawed?

Fri. 8/4/17 1:02pm Alex In Illinois:

My floss gets frayed even without the radio on.
  Fri. 8/4/17 1:04pm Dean:

Surely not. My preamp is by now vintage. The DAC is an odd bird, and I'm not sure what input I'd use. HDMI? Anyway, I avoid the streaming thing on the main system, even web radio.

The floss I use is both brand name and generic. Results vary.
Fri. 8/4/17 1:07pm Alex In Illinois:

My wife gave me a Bluetooth speaker last year. So when I floss, the smartphone is on the window sill out of spittle's way, while the speaker is atop the medicine cabinet. So that eliminates any issues with the radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/4/17 1:14pm Uncle Michael:

I have many methods. One is a bluetooth speaker from phone, laptop or tablet.

Speaking of atheism (upthread), Glenn Greenwald responded to this tweet: "Mark Zuckerberg says he's no longer an atheist, believes 'running for president very important'" with: "Everything about this is going to be completely unbearable." Yes.
Avatar Fri. 8/4/17 1:36pm listener james from westwood:

Radio Iron Man behind that mic! Fourth quarter whistle blown!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/4/17 1:36pm Uncle Michael:

Seconded, ndbob.
  Fri. 8/4/17 1:43pm Dean:

I recognize that GG pushes a lot of folks' buttons, but I am a fan, and not because he's so provocative. I think he often exhibits the best traits of "thinking like a lawyer" without the cynicism. Truly. Admittedly, that doesn't always work out on Twitter, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/4/17 1:44pm coelacanth∅:

yay i managed to get my player working in time for (this) dear prudence
  Fri. 8/4/17 1:45pm Dean:

Thanks, Dean. Have a good time.

"The Association's Greatest Hits" was my first rock and roll album (sixth LP overall, after a series of comedy records). This bullfighter song is one of the ones that knocked me out most.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/4/17 1:46pm coelacanth∅:

by that drum roll intro i thought it was "mr. big". (free)
Avatar Fri. 8/4/17 1:47pm The Oscar:

Tuning in late (really late, proportionally). One of the most subtly weird bands ever?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/4/17 1:47pm Uncle Michael:

I think this song might be metaphor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/4/17 1:48pm Uncle Michael:

They were too smart for Monterrey Pop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/4/17 1:48pm coelacanth∅:

(...no, "dirt" by stooges. duh)
Avatar Fri. 8/4/17 1:50pm The Oscar:

@coelacanth I thought it was going to be "Stand" by Sly & the Family Stone!
Avatar Fri. 8/4/17 1:51pm burke:

Were all this band's songs about dudes? It's a rich topic I suppose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/4/17 1:51pm Uncle Michael:

It triggered "Stand" for me too.
  Fri. 8/4/17 1:51pm johnk77:

@ggreenwald probably untrustworthy:<

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/4/17 2:42pm Parq:

Love this Elton song. One of my favorites. Here's local performer Kyle Supley doing it at a recent Losers Lounge tribute.

Actually Time said god is dead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/4/17 2:44pm Parq:

Jeff, but it wasn't officially true until the Good Grey ran it. "What do you mean it isn't true -- it was in the New York Times!"
Avatar Fri. 8/4/17 2:44pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Jeff g.: But "the NYTimes" fits better in the song. Poetic license!
  Fri. 8/4/17 2:46pm davefromtoronto:

Thanks everyone. I'm still enjoying myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/4/17 2:50pm Parq:

"Madman" and "Chateau were both great, as was my first EJ purchase, "11/17/70". But I've really come to dig "Yellow Brick" more and more with the passage of time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/4/17 2:50pm Parq:

UM @ 2:38: Not a bit. Just curious.
Avatar Fri. 8/4/17 2:51pm geezerette:

Whew!
Avatar Fri. 8/4/17 2:52pm The Oscar:

Oh man-- I've only heard the "fake English" version of this song (which is also imminently YouTubable)!
Avatar Fri. 8/4/17 2:52pm Doug Schulkind:

As a kid, I used to know all the lyrics to all Elton records. Then I became a drummer and stopped paying attention to lyrics.
Avatar Fri. 8/4/17 2:53pm The Oscar:

Ahh, wait-- there it is :)
Avatar Fri. 8/4/17 2:54pm The Oscar:

Also KEN!!
