Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:07pm David D:

Greetings and howdy Sem, Listening Out There, Geezerette, Stanley, and coelacanth∅! Buffet is open for your orders...
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:07pm northguineahills:

Ok, just delivered my project, now to eat for the first time today. Be back soon!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:08pm Stanley:

Great, coffee and baklava for me. Anyone else?
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:09pm geezerette:

Stanley, yum!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:09pm David D:

Bon appetit, NGH! And Stanley!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:09pm coelacanth∅:

i've been craving vegetable egg rolls ("spring rolls"?) for a few weeks, if you have any of those back there...
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:10pm Sem:

Any chocolate babka?
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:10pm David D:

Sure everything is stored away somewhere on the train.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:10pm geezerette:

Coel, I could go on...:D
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:11pm Stanley:

This buffet has everything. You want dippimg sauce with them rolls, coelacanth?
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:11pm doctorjazz:

Hey all!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:11pm David D:

Hey Doc!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:12pm Stanley:

What you having, doctor j?
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:12pm geezerette:

Sem, there's a pastry cart!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:14pm geezerette:

Hallwa and halvah are two different things.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:14pm Stanley:

Hallwa - now you're talking.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:15pm βrian:

Grated carrots cooked with milk, sugar, and cardamom, yes?
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:15pm geezerette:

Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:16pm Sem:

Great, G. Hate to travel w/ low blood sugar.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:16pm coelacanth∅:

Stanley thanks but i like them naked!
...and baklava! this just reminds me of the greek restaurant that used to be in my town - had exquisite baklava. never had any since that compares.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:19pm Stanley:

Halva comes in many forms. It was a jelly like sweet in Northern Kenya
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:21pm geezerette:

One of each, please. Now I have work to do, may pop up to stretch my legs now & then.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:22pm Brian in UK:

Hello David and food obsessed listeners.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:22pm doctorjazz:

I'm up for some baklava if there's any extra (but I'm fussy with it ,love it when it's good, but sometimes doesn't hit the spot).
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:22pm David D:

βrian, that sounds good to me just about now!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:23pm Stanley:

HI Brian. Have you had yer tea?
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:23pm David D:

And hello Brian with a B and a UK!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:24pm coelacanth∅:

my introduction to halvah was at a store i worked in. it was sweetened only with honey and we had regular and carob swirled, and we sold it by weight, cut off 6# blocks. unbelievable! then it stopped being available and i have never tried halvah since then (in 20+ years) that i've liked. (& never seen it without refined sugar either)
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:26pm coelacanth∅:

...what is "hallwa"?
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:26pm Brian in UK:

Stanley or is that Hamish?, I can thoroughly recommend this establishment.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:31pm David D:

coelacanth∅: I think it might actually be another spelling of halva - could be a turn of phrase?
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:33pm Stanley:

Thanks Al-Brian, they look amazing. I'll call next time I cross the Bosphorus
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:35pm Brian in UK:

Looks like the tunnel is nearly finished under the Bosphorus.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:43pm David D:

Maybe they deliver, especially now with the tunnel.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:45pm βrian:

«J'ai faim ! J'ai faim !»
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:47pm Stanley:

"A hungry man is an angry man"
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:48pm doctorjazz:

Grew up with halva in the house, my Polish immigrant parents loved it. I didn't get a taste for it until I was an adult, like it now (though I don't seek it out).
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:51pm doctorjazz:

Have tickets to see Chuck Prophet at WFMU Monty Hall tonight, but my usual partners in crime couldn't make it. Deciding if I should just go myself...
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:53pm Brian in UK:

Stanley, when in London this place has fab bak. Ironically it is the same site as a bookshop that I used to work in.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:54pm doctorjazz:

This Steven Bernstein album is fabulous!
I ssw them perform it live. Great stuff (Passover music)
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:55pm David D:

Yes, but good all year round, I'd say. And sure, why not head to Monty Hall, there are bound to be unusual partners in crime around...
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:58pm northguineahills:

Asked for extra jalapenos w/ my burrito, and used my habenero hot sauce, but still seemed tame after eating my newly ripened ghost peppers this weekend. Still a good burrito!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 4:59pm northguineahills:

I always thought Gaslamp Killer leaned more towards grime w/ no problem going jazzy...Hadn't heard that track.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:05pm David D:

Ghost peppers - yikes! Is it at all palatable?
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:08pm northguineahills:

@David: Yes, you just have to build your tolerance. I started w/ 3mm strips and now I've worked up to 1cm strips (usually wrapped in cheese). They have an amazing flavor if you can get past the heat (especially freshly picked). Also been taking butternut squash blossoms from my garden and putting them in my salad.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:09pm northguineahills:

(keep in mind I've been cooking w/ habaneros for years).(I started building my ghost pepper tolerance last week).
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:13pm redkayak:

Howdy all :)
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:14pm David D:

NGH: I do enjoy a few drops of hot sauce, myself and the squash blossoms sound intriguing.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:14pm David D:

Hello Redkayak!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:15pm redkayak:

Ahoy David - just paddling through ;)
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:18pm northguineahills:

everything I see redkayak's name I think it says reykjavik.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:19pm northguineahills:

every time....
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:20pm still b/p:

Need to get your ice checked.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:20pm Sem:

Man, really loving this.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:22pm Mark Hurst:

Enjoying the subway today, thanks, David!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:22pm coelacanth∅:

i'm supposing the squash blossoms are sweet but i never wanted to sacrifice any potential fruits.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:22pm David D:

Still b/p: Ice sounds good just about now.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:23pm David D:

Thank you, Mark!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:30pm northguineahills:

@coel: That's the dilemma. They are quite tastey, like a hibiscus flower w/ a sweet squash after taste (not sugary, subtly sweet).
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:32pm still b/p:

The RealFeel® temp in Leipzig is currently 1°C less than the official temp, so you're cooooool.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:33pm Brian in UK:

Thanks David will have to play catchup later.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:34pm northguineahills:

Is there stream issue, or it just me?
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:35pm still b/p:

I've got a Cozy Cole track.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:35pm Stanley:

The stream has taken over. Yikes.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:36pm David D:

NGH: Yes, I was wondering about that myself. I will see what I can do.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:36pm David D:

And thanks, Brian!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:38pm geezerette:

David, enjoying the scenery today! Really loved the Japanese music, the Svensson Trio, and all these Fools!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:39pm David D:

Thanks, geezerette!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:40pm geezerette:

Got splashed by the stream too but back on course now.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:41pm David D:

Let's hope for the best with the stream.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:42pm still b/p:

Got splashed by the stream, drummed by the show, I'm drunk and dirty, but don't you know that I'm still...
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:43pm geezerette:

still b/p, hahaha!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:49pm northguineahills:

It's a lovely 78F/26C here in FL (b/c it's been raining all day).
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:51pm northguineahills:

a toad followed me into the office, had to escort her out.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:55pm still b/p:

One of the favorite pictures taken so far as I loosely assess the capabilities of the recently acquired smartphone is a portrait of a toad on a mountain woods trail.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 5:57pm mr_mike:

@Ø What else are you growing, I've got beets, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, corn, carrots in 4x10
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:01pm David D:

mr_mike: Sounds good to me!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:03pm mr_mike:

@Ø the cucumber flowers are good too. small, but flavored like a cucumber. there are so many on a vine you won't miss them
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:07pm chresti:

Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:08pm northguineahills:

I have fennel, cucumber, sweet potatoes, chives, butternut squash, juliana tomatoes, fuzzy-wuzzy tomatoes, jalapenos, carolina scorpion peppers, ghost peppers, poblano peppers, eggplants, basil, and rosemary, and that's just what has survived.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:08pm David D:

Hello Chresti!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:12pm David D:

We should all meet somewhere for a picnic.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:12pm chresti:

we've got a fig tree, it sprouted 3 figs, for the first time since we planted it.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:17pm still b/p:

Satellite thermal imagery must show a hot spot where ngh tends his plot.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:19pm northguineahills:

haha!, still b/p! I might also have some habaneros, but right now I can't tell if it's a jalapeno or an habenero (birds/squirrels, destroy many of my plants).
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:19pm chresti:

scorpion peppers
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:20pm northguineahills:

Estampie, new to me!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:21pm still b/p:

Birds and squirrels go for the peppers....more than once?
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:27pm northguineahills:

Birds can't detect capsaicin. (but most of my plants were eaten by the animals before they fruited, tomatoes and tomatillos notwithstanding). In NYC, on my fire escape, squirrels used to take a bit out of jalapenos/habaneros and realized they weren't tastey fruit. Still, I would find buried peppers in my plant boxes. I finally caught them in time and threw my cup of ice water on them and they never came back.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:28pm northguineahills:

I want to plant fruit trees, but I'm renting for the time being, and you have to be patient w/ trees.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:34pm David D:

Maybe I can put out some hot stuff for the raccoons here.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:36pm northguineahills:

Extreme hot sauce is good rodent repellent. When we had a mice problem in Brooklyn, in addition to having steel wool and caulk over every potential hole, I put ghost pepper paste around it....
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:38pm mr_mike:

funny: buried peppers and a surprised wet squirrel
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:38pm David D:

Oh, I meant it as a treat, but I guess maybe not.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:39pm northguineahills:

I somehow have never heard of Ysaye.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:40pm doctorjazz:

Me neither, beautiful piece! Thanks, David, catch you next time!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:41pm David D:

Thanks Doctorjazz, enjoy the show if you go...
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:43pm still b/p:

I sprinkled cayenne powder along a deck rail and in plant pots a few years back as a line of defense against squirrels. Didn't even know if critters have any physical reaction or if the method achieved anything. Obviously one medium rain would cancel the application. Should make a hot powder mandala...just to practice being consciously OK with its erasure by elements.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:44pm doctorjazz:

Yup, just deciding on where to eat .
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:45pm doctorjazz:

Parked outside of Monty Hall... Middle Eastern vs Thai fusion, hmmm
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:45pm geezerette:

Beautiful !
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:45pm mr_mike:

I know, classical radio spends too much time on famous 18th century composers
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:47pm David D:

Doc: Both sound good - lots of good places in the area, I think.
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:48pm geezerette:

Doc, enjoy the show!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:48pm mr_mike:

oops, some other stream is leaking into my drummer stream. it has loud guitar
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:50pm David D:

It should be back now - sorry about that!
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:51pm northguineahills:

@still b/p, they don't like chili powder, they can just step over it if it's just a line...
Avatar Tue. 7/17/18 6:56pm northguineahills:

Thanks David! Enjoy the nicht!
