Avatar 11:48am Sean in Bristol UK:

Good afternoon, Irene, hello one and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Irene Trudel:

Welcome Sean! Happy afternoon to you too!
Avatar 12:01pm Really Lisa:

Hello Irene and everyone. Glad to have this soundtrack to Monday afternoon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Irene Trudel:

Welcome Lisa! Happy to provide it.
Avatar 12:03pm Malcolm:

Hi Irene and everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Malcolm!
Avatar 12:12pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Can I share a little bit of deep despair, absolutely minor with what is going on but an artist close to our heart, Irene, had a new album pencilled in for a release last Friday. Steven Wilson has now delayed that until next January. A minor, minor problem I know but | was so looking forward, a new album from this maestro is an event.
  12:12pm Alan Cynics:

Found you no problem today.....lovely start :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Irene Trudel:

Aww, that is a shame Sean. As you know I'm also a big fan. Everything these days is on a big delay, so we'll just have to be patient!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm doctorjazz:

Hi Irene and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Irene Trudel:

Ah, that's great Alan! I'll try to make it plain each time I post about a new show. Glad you're able to join us all. And 'hi" doctorjazz!
Avatar 12:18pm Sean in Bristol UK:

My home town had a piece in today's NY Times, we are under the spotlight but glad that the city is waking up to the sordid past
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Brian in UK:

Hello Irene and gentle folks.

Sean, people have been trying for years to get Colston's statue removed?
Avatar 12:28pm gongoleer:

Hello from Vermont to Irene & everyone. Running a bit late and almost forgot to log in. Hope your days run well all week. It's crazy out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Irene Trudel:

Sean I haven't read it but will later (presumably about the statue dumped into the river). And hello to you, Brian and gongoleer! Trying to keep sane through the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm alanr:

And another shoutout from my temporary exile in Mexico City (until the end of June). Can't live without you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Irene Trudel:

Hey alanr! How are things in Mexico City? Hope you're keeping well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm alanr:

Nice vibe here. For while, it was the safer option than returning to Brooklyn! Now one must be more careful. My second home. Wonderful cultural world here. Thanks for asking!
  12:34pm Dean:

This Lang and Basho remind me of a show I attended in the late '80s or early '90s at Covina's Fret House featuring a 12-string picker who was something of a Kottke acolyte. Just can't remember his name!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm alanr:

The peak of contagion is now and probably into early July here!!!
Avatar 12:35pm gongoleer:

And speaking of Basho, Lang & Kottke lest we not forget Bykoff. @alanr maybe that's who you mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Hi Irene, WFMU folx—thanks for your contributions to my sanity.<3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Irene Trudel:

Ooh, hope you're keeping safe alanr! I know the lockdown can try your patience. Hey Dean, if you remember who it was maybe I can add something to today's mix. And, yes, gongoleer, some Don Bikoff will fit nicely today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm doctorjazz:

Feel like I'm just being strung along...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Granny! Sanity is in short supply here these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Irene: it's time to make some Stone Soup outta what we got!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Good morning(-ish), Irene! May lose you for the last hour because guys are coming over to replace our modem but all the better to hear you on the archive after without dodgy internet service! We love you! x
  12:53pm Dean:

Not Bikoff... I recall that on the day of the show I was listening to KPFK when they announced the appearance. I thought, "I got nothing to do tonight. I'll check it out." Nice venue, kind of a tiny McCabe's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Stanley:

Hi Irene and fellow listeners.
Say Africa is sweet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm doctorjazz:

Really like Say Africa
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Brian in UK:

Hello Stanley.
Avatar 12:57pm gongoleer:

@Irene. That would be cool. I mentioned him only because perhaps it was Don who Dean couldn't recall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Irene Trudel:

Indeed, Granny! Hi Summer and Michael and Sylvia! Hope you don't lose too much time. There's always the archive. Hi Stanley! Glad you're enjoying today's mix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Stanley:

Hi Brian. Another day, another gray hair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Irene and drummer streamers - I've been listening, but not commenting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Irene Trudel:

Well, it's nice to have you lurking, Henry!
Avatar 1:02pm Sean in Bristol UK:

What a marvellous set this is,
Avatar 1:05pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Sorry to witter on about Bristol, we have a rather fine concert venue here called Colston Hall, seen some great artists there, Todd Rundgren, Steven Wilson to name a few. Well it looks like it is going to be renamed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm maestroso:

Had you on since the beginning. Great sounds Irene! Music to crunch numbers by in my home office as a bear wanders around the yard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm doctorjazz:

Web had a bear wandering around my neighborhood last week...
Avatar 1:10pm gongoleer:

Great choice on Bikoff, Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Irene Trudel:

maestroso, that's good to hear. Happy to be everyone's soundtrack to the afternoon!
Avatar 1:12pm gongoleer:

No bears here, yet but plenty of chipmunks, squirrels and other critters.
  1:16pm Dean:

Yow. I'm combing through old issues of LAT, when they listed the performers at just about every venue, and I see that Fahey played the Fret House in April '87.
Avatar 1:18pm Malcolm:

i saw derek gripper perform his arrangements of Malian music in Johannesburg a few years ago... one of the most transcendent musical experiences I've had
Avatar 1:23pm Malcolm:

i've also seen guy buttery perform in grahamstown but was quite drunk at the time :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Irene Trudel:

Malcolm, Last year I saw Derek Gripper at Zankel Hall with a wonderful Malian trio whose name is escaping me at the moment. His imitations of the Kora are astonishing! Also, I had the pleasure of meeting and engineering a session with Guy Buttery for New Sounds a couple of years ago. (A really nice guy) Both of them jaw-droppingly good!
Avatar 1:28pm Sean in Bristol UK:

That was a track of beauty from Richard Bona, thank you, Irene
Avatar 1:28pm Malcolm:

@Irene oh wow cool! I'll have to search out that New Sounds session
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm chris:

hi, Irene and folks. been listening and enjoying. have a special place in my heart for 'Beyond the Missouri Sky'. brings happy, warm feels when i hear anything from it. thanks for spinning it, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Maggie B.:

Hi Irene and all! Loving these sounds for easing into my virtual work week. (It's been exactly 3 months now.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Irene Trudel:

Hi chris and Maggie B! Beyond the Missouri Sky is one of my go-to albums when I need something beautiful and calming. Maggie, I think it's about 3 months WFH for me as well. Gonna be a while longer I'm afraid. At least, thanks to our lead Drummer, Doug, I have this show to look forward to.
  1:45pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

The sun is shining, a rather chilled craft IPA to hand and this wonderful music, for three hours each Monday life goes from ass wiping bad to finger lickin’ good!
  1:46pm Peter K.:

Irene's show, today as always, is a barrage of beauty and an oasis of sanity in an insane world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Michael 98145:

@Sean chilly and damp morning here on the left coast, so that future sounds quite appealing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Maggie B.:

Hear, hear, @Peter K.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Peter and Maggie B! Sean and Michael, that sounds like a fine idea once I'm done with the show. Feet up and relaxation=good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Doug Schulkind:

I've been doing actual work all day and unable to listen. The show, however, LOOKS fantastic.
Avatar 1:58pm βrian:

Deliriously lovely weather here. A soft breeze, bird song, and now Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Brian in UK:

Sean, an odd metaphor!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Doug and βrian! Having a lovely day playing music in this mild, cloudy June weather.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Oooh, great stuff, Irene! Is this from the *new* David Garland album? Love!
  2:12pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

@Brian, picked up the ‘ass wiping’ etc, etc from a movie way back in time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, it's David's latest!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Great! Going on the Bandcamp wishlist, pronto! x
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Michael 98145:

yes. liking these.
  2:20pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

So maybe I have a little too much sun but it’s recycling collection tomorrow. Three bins dedicated to food leftovers, beer cans, (since the lockdown my beer empties has been a little embarrassing), newspapers, plastic. Huge thanks goes to the guys who have been collecting. How are folks doing with recycling, are you a tad embarrassed by the bottles of wine, beer etc that you have put out. Totally random stream here, profuse apologies for my off kilter moment!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Avatar 2:25pm βrian:

It's wine bottles for us. They pile up, since pickup is only every other week whereas trash is picked up weekly. Seems bacward to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Michael 98145:

yup. we always have a bin full of -containers-
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Stanley:

Sean - I'm intrigued about your beer. Is it from Bristol?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm chris:

Sean, though it pains my physician to hear, i have no shame about my part in the recycle bin contents: bottles of wine, beer, whisky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Stanley:

I'll hit bandcamp on Friday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm chris:

Stanley, i'm currently enjoying an early dad's day gift of a bottle of Michel Couvreur whisky. single malt distilled in Scotland, then aged in very, very old sherry casks in a cave in France. exquisite.
Avatar 2:34pm βrian:

Our birds start piping up around 4:30.
  2:35pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

@Stanley, we are or were going craft brewery crazy over here, kind of mirroring the beer scene that has exploded in the US over the last ten years plus. We tend to go for a sane level of ABV. Not the 7% plus that is appreciated across ‘the pond’ which I am a huge fan of, hops coming out of your ears. I have a Brewery up the road from me, Twisted Oak, ticks all the boxes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Michael 98145:

salutations from the land of hops
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm chris:

picked up a half gallon growler of Blind Pig IPA from Russian River Brewing Company over the weekend. very hoppy, floral nose. very light color. slightly bitter. 6%. also exquisite. embarrassment of riches, truth be told.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Stanley:

chris - wow! I looked it up. He imports the single malt and finishes the ageing in sherry casks. i saw the price too. You have generous child(ren). And, of course, you deserve it.
I love sherry cask single malt. Happy Father's Day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Irene Trudel:

βrian, that may be happening here. My cat is quite aware of bird activity. i just try to ignore it until I see the sun starting to come up.
  2:41pm Malcolm:

Got more music in my bandcamp wishlist than I realistically have time to listen to or money to spend on, but will definitely be purchasing some records on friday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Stanley:

Hi Sean - I'm up in edinburgh and the scene has gone ape over the last few years. My man gets Verdant, whic I think is from Bristol. Twisted oak, I do not know but I'll enquire. And yes, juicy IPAs for me too (and big percent imperial stouts)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Stanley:

My favourite East Coast breweries are Trillium from Massachusetts and Other Half from Brooklyn, who, incidently are doing a colabs with UK breweries to raise money for independents, who are struggling. Check ii out, if you can. During lockdown my guy has made a small fortune.
  2:49pm Dean:

Really enjoy Blind Pig, sometimes more so than Pliny the Elder. But fave is still Pliny the Younger. These days, though, my neighborhood Gilman Brewing Co. triple IPA, Missouri Lean (10%abv) does the trick. Hey, I bet Charlie Haden (RIP) and Pat Metheny would enjoy Missouri Lean, too!
Avatar 2:51pm gongoleer:

Here in So. VT. we have McNeills, an award winning brewery and Hermit's Thrush, a Belgium style brewery. Great both of them. In my small town of 12,000 there are 4 indie breweries. We get lots of NY and other out of state tourists who come for the Vt state brewery tours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Stanley:

I find TIPAs to be a bit too sweet but they can be very elegant, if nicely balanced.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm chris:

will need to get over there, Dean. thanks for the tip. Pliny the Younger is truly exceptional.
and, cheers, Stanley! :)
Avatar 2:53pm βrian:

@gongoleer: Is Otter Creek still in business. They had great beer. Saint Ambroise and Boréale were favorites, too, for road trips to Montreal.
  2:54pm Malcolm:

Great show thanks Irene
Avatar 2:55pm gongoleer:

@Chris-Sure come anytime when it becomes safe to do so. Let me know. We'll down a couple.
Avatar 2:56pm gongoleer:

@Brian-Yes I think so. I believe there over on western side of state in Middlebury.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks everyone for listening today. Let's do this again next Monday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Webhamster Henry:

This is slightly Die Knödel-esque!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm chris:

cheers, gongoleer!

thanks for another wonderful show, Irene. you made my day.
  2:59pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Thanks for a mind blowing show, Irene, roll on next Monday
Avatar 3:00pm gongoleer:

You betcha Irene. It's always on my radar. Barring major world calamity, wouldn't miss it. Sending you @your email chirping bird mp4 recorded from my deck. C u next week everyone.Be safe and remain joyful despite what's going on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Stanley:

Lovely show today Irene.
Cheers everyone.
