    Hi Rob and sound paradise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm estimo:

This track lyrics go "why you don't sing". The word "kaske" means birch in direct translation, but it comes from traditional songs.
    Avatar 6:08pm slugluv1313:

    greetings, Rob and everyone!
been a rough week -- and it sounds like it has been a particularly difficult/heavy week for many others too -- so happy to be here and listening live, and sooooo grateful for the WFMU family :)

Transglobal Underground - I remember them with Natacha Atlas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Smilty69:

@slugluv Don’t be fooled by the cuteness. She’s an unrepentant hellraiser.
    Avatar 6:47pm Bas NL:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm chresti:

Me too, Natacha Atlas. Saw them at the Santa Monica pier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Rob W:

Yes Stanley, actually I believe this is Natacha Atlas singing on this track! She's on one other track on this album - it's kind of a collective undertaking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Rob W:

Correction - on this track Sheema Mukherjee sings lead, Natacha Atlas sings backups
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm chresti:

Her/their version of 'I Put a Spell on You", made me a believer.

I have a whistle, metal cookie box, Ghanaian shaker, djembe-like kids' drum, Yamaha FG-331 acoustic guitar, and a juice bottle cap you can get a-clicking.

    Sounded Hungarian?
    Avatar 8:09pm Bas NL:

    And this Romanian?
    Avatar 8:10pm slugluv1313:

Sebo Ensemble? *sounds* Hungarian -- esp. with those "sz" words!
(and yup, my Hungarian ancestors are going to rise up from the dead & smakc me upside the head for not being definitive!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm full metal monkey:

Speaking of Hungarian. I made chicken paprikash the other night. Fantastic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm full metal monkey:

    @slugluv. Egeszsegedre

I need to find some paprika that isn't flavorless. I know it's out there, but I've never sought it out.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm full metal monkey:

@brian. Good paprika is out there. I found this amazing fresh smoked paprika that I use a lot
    Avatar 8:20pm slugluv1313:

@ full metal monkey -- köszönöm!
(yup i had to look that up! again, i am sure the ancestors are scowling, hah!)
ahhhh PAPRIKASH! my Mom, Grandma were EXPERTS! me, on the other hand -- total disaster, hah! & being vegan, one would think that i could at least make a decent tofu (or whatever) paprikas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm full metal monkey:

@slugluv. Yeah I use my grandmothers recipes for all my Hungarian cooking. She was the best
      8:23pm Carmichael:

I grew up with a guy named Jukich, his family was Czechoslovakian. Whatever they call that country now.
    Avatar 8:25pm βrian:

@FFM: Now that you mention it, I remember getting some very nice smoked Spanish paprika from Penzey's. I'm usually not a fan of smoked flavorizers, but this was rich and subtle.
    Avatar 8:26pm slugluv1313:

@ full metal Monkey -- that is awesome! my Mom and Grandma never wrote anything down, everything was kinda by instinct :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm full metal monkey:

@brian. Yeah. Mix it with sweet and hot put it on food. It’s great
      8:28pm Carmichael:

    Davey Graham!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm full metal monkey:

@slugluv. Lol I had to watch her make it and write down what she was doing. She had nothing written down. Totally old school. Winging it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm Mr. Pumpy:

Hello, Rob and gang! Too much shite taking me away from my radio time lately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm maestroso:

    Davy Graham, yeah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm maestroso:

    Such a great show Rob.
      8:31pm Carmichael:

This song is commonly known as The Bramble Briar.
    Avatar 8:31pm slugluv1313:

@ ßrian -- for years i used the Pride of Szeged Paprika, but have had a tough time finding it in recent years :(
Magyar Marketing has some of their spices, along with other brands of Paprika -- but i have not tried any of them, so i cannot say which is best:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm full metal monkey:

    That song was beautiful
    Avatar 8:32pm TDK60:

    Yeh FMM.
      8:33pm Carmichael:

    Avatar 8:35pm хtina:

    Avatar 8:36pm slugluv1313:

@ full metal monkey -- TOTAL Grandma style, love it! :)
i still have my Mom's handwritten instructions for Palacsinta, and even for that, i had to practically beg her -- "nothing is written down," etc. hah!

      8:38pm Carmichael:

His version of Both Sides Now is astonishing, played on FMU quite a lot.
    Avatar 8:40pm slugluv1313:

this whole show is amazing, Rob -- i love how songs are sung in languages that i am embarrassed to admit i did not even know existed
      8:41pm Carmichael:

As me Da would say, “I learned something today.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm Rob W:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm Mr. Pumpy:

@slugluv, Szeged makes my favorite fish rub. It is also hard to find as time goes on. I've been ordering it online for the past 10 years!
