A two-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Hey, spacebrother! How is?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Lotus Blossom:

Spacebrother!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Kat in Chicago:

Hi Otis. I had pasta with (good) jar sauce last night. Dinner tonight is doner box from the place up the street, one of the few neighborhood joints still open even for takeout/delivery. Definitely comfort food.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Lotus Blossom:

Will make pasta after the show and continue watching the Tiger Doc everyone is blabbering bout. Pretty fun, 2 episodes in so far.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Kat in Chicago:

I salute your mac and cheese, Granny. I make it from scratch sometimes but I wouldn't mind having a few more boxes of Annie's Shells and White Cheddar on the shelf.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Rich in Washington:

Hey spacebrother! How is?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Rich in Washington:

and brianiac! Howdy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Lotus Blossom:

Right now, comfort for all and food for all. You are all in my thoughts. Hugs!
Avatar 7:26pm spacebrother:

I am good. Setting up for the show on Sunday, which I still can't believe I'm doing.
Avatar 7:26pm spacebrother:

Hello Lotus!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm brainiac:

Hi Rich! As someone who just finished Tiger King, all I can tell anyone who hasn't seen it is better off that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Kat in Chicago:

That's awesome, Spacebrother, I gotta remember to tune in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Lotus Blossom:

Yes! Greg, I'll be tuning in while catching up on work here. Looking forward to your fill in. Please post about it to the SRJ FB group too.

Ha, being silly with the names. Gotta laugh now ya know. Whew.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Kat in Chicago:

I don't really listen to Teenage Wasteland much any more but it was in fact my WFMU gateway show, heard it as a passenger in a friend's friend's car back when I lived in NYC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Rich in Washington:

oh wow. Discogs is down. I am lost without it. Sort of.. Dang.
Avatar 7:29pm Mr Fab:

Yo, space bro! You should mention that you're filling in for Teenage Wasteland on the Sheena's Facebook page. Yes folks, sheena's Jungle Room has its own Facebook page, even if I'm not allowed on it any more!
Avatar 7:29pm spacebrother:

My comfort food is Japanese curry and a dessert of Strawberries and blueberries with muscovado sugar and balsamic vinegar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Lotis Blossom:

Might be another overload blip. Keep refreshing Rich, looking okay here. I know, I need it during my show too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Kat in Chicago: yep, it was Annie's, from the only two boxes left on the shelf at the store today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Kat in Chicago:

Mr Fab, you're in Facebook jail? Ugh.
Avatar 7:30pm spacebrother:

@ Fab - I am posting that today.
Avatar 7:30pm ironybread:

Rich, are you sure? I went to Discogs just now and it looks fine. Anything you want me to look up?
Avatar 7:30pm spacebrother:

No discogs? Oh no!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i add three cloves of minced garlic to my mac and cheese—that makes it medicine, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Lotis Blossom:

Kat, that's cool for the gateway show. My gateway was Incorrect Music when I could first hear the stream in 1999 from Seattle.
Avatar 7:30pm geezerette:

Hullo, Rich and fellow temporary shut-ins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Kat in Chicago:

Yep, Granny, next time I see it I'm getting more. It's pretty decent, and you can add stuff to it. Like garlic!
Avatar 7:31pm ironybread:

oh no, three cloves of garlic will TAKE DOWN DISCOGS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Rich in Washington:

Oh. It's back! It wasn't when I tried to find the label of this CD, which isn't anywhere on its jacket, spine, etc. Dumb.
Avatar 7:31pm spacebrother:

Hey gzette!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Rich in Washington:

Terje Rypdal on guitar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Kat in Chicago:

That reminds me, I need garlic too. Time to make a list for next time I venture out for provisions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Rich in Washington:

geezerette! Howdy!
Avatar 7:33pm spacebrother:

I watched one episode of Tiger King and had to go take a Karen Silkwood shower.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Lotis Blossom:

I will chop up a whole clove for my pasta in 90min. Watch out Discogs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Rich in Washington:

Peter Brotzmann blowing his spleen out his sax.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm Kat in Chicago:

Good lord
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Lotis Blossom:

Looking out my window now at the deserted street, free jazz really provides the perfect soundtrack.
Avatar 7:36pm geezerette:

Spacebro! Rich!
Sound of freedom! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Rich in Washington:

If you've ever seen footage of Brotzmann playing, it's quite frightening. Like some gore scene from Scanners is about to happen.
Avatar 7:36pm ironybread:

As a former saxophonist, I can confirm there's nothing more embarrassing than going all-out on a free-jazz freakout and having to fish your appendix out of your B-flat hole afterwards
Avatar 7:36pm spacebrother:

A Korean supermarket 10 miles from me were not short on anything. They had flour and eggs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Rich in Washington:

Yay! Freedom
Avatar 7:38pm spacebrother:

@Rich - LOL re Brotzmann! I am reminded of Joe Cocker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm Kat in Chicago:

There is a Korean market within walking distance of me, I need to revisit them.
Avatar 7:44pm ironybread:

I sense a piccolo is going to attack momentarily
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Rich in Washington:

I, like you, would give my eyeteeth to actually possess this record.
Avatar 7:49pm spacebrother:

Rich, are remaining sane and well-fed?
Avatar 7:50pm ironybread:

taylorjessen.blogspot.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Rich in Washington:

Oh, so far. I DID just have an epic blood sugar crash right before this show. Thought I might have to not do the show, but I am OK now.
Avatar 7:51pm spacebrother:

@ Rich - Watch them sweets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Rich in Washington:

I just forget to eat when I'm off my usual schedule. This is quite an adjustment for me, being home ALL the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Rich in Washington:

oh, this record is so worn and crackly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Lotis Blossom:

Added crackle charm.
Avatar 7:54pm spacebrother:

I do the same. I forget to eat, but I've been doing that for years, so I'm sort of used to it. 5 or 6 hours after I get up, I get the feeling that I might not have eaten yet because I start running down quickly.
Avatar 7:55pm spacebrother:

I'm going to start playing more vinyl, so I need to dig out my record cleaner. It has a vacuum in it. Miracle worker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Rich in Washington:

Hope you're doing well and taking care of yourself! What a weird time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Rich in Washington:

What is this.. cleaning records thing you mention?
;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Rich in Washington:

something I need to do with all my spare time is just have a huge record cleaning marathon.
Avatar 7:56pm spacebrother:

It resurrects thrift store vinyl.
Avatar 7:57pm spacebrother:

I used to wash records in the sink with a quick rinse/ soap/ rinse and immediately dry with a towel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Rich in Washington:

yeah. I'm just bad about doing it. I used to process every stray record I take in but have really slacked on doing it lately.
Avatar 7:58pm spacebrother:

Yeah, me too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Rich in Washington:

I use our dishrack! I usually wait until everyone's out so I can just go nuts in the kitchen with music cranked way up. Process a couple dozen records or so.
Avatar 8:01pm spacebrother:

That's a good method.
Avatar 8:02pm spacebrother:

This machine: www.nittygrittyinc.com
Avatar 8:03pm spacebrother:

Wow. Their prices have really gone up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah, I've been eyeballing something like that. I just use my own cleaner and a microfiber brush and cloth for now.
Avatar 8:04pm spacebrother:

I went out to their warehouse and bought it direct like 10 years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm Lotis Blossom:

I have been eyeing the machines. My method is like you Rich... homemade cleaner and a cloth. Always use on the shows weekly as static can be nuts in this old apartment.

Here's a good article I have bookmarked. I do the "Isopropyl Alcohol (1 part), Distilled Water (1 part), and Dishwashing Soap (1-2 drops)" method...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm spodiodi:

*snap snap* at you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm spodiodi:

hipster. heck.
Avatar 8:12pm Mr Fab:

Oh! The irony if I spent $800 on one of those machines to clean a bunch of crappy 99 cent thrift-store records.
Avatar 8:14pm Mr Fab:

Spacebrother, you should rent out that gizmo to record collectors - $20 for a half hour or sumthin? It might pay for itself after while!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm spodiodi:

do ya want him?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm spodiodi:

nice loop
Avatar 8:16pm spacebrother:

@ Fab - I should! But it heats up after about 20 records or so and needs to take a break.
