A two-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Avatar 7:05pm Don-O:

Hmmm, the Dark Side Of Chris Rea! So much for that Fool If You Think It's Over jazz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

howdy hey, Rich and folx!
  7:06pm ARB:

We've all come to the Valley Of The Rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Carmichael:

Heya Rich/Bobby, quick in and out. usually off work, but government purchasing duty calls in these trying times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Granny!
Hi Carmichael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks for stopping in, Carmichael!
  7:11pm ARB:

Did a lip sync video to this very song earlier this week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm Rich in Washington:

We're all living in this Leonard Cohen LP now.
  7:13pm ARB:

And Leonard got out just in time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm Rich in Washington:

Yep. Lotsa folks seem to be doing that lately. The poets know it.
Avatar 7:16pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Rich and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Rich in Washington:

Hi coelacanth∅!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Rich in Washington:

sorry if I sound like a Classic Rock station right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Aitch:

Perhaps Dire Straights track better suited to the show before?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Aitch:

Wild guitar all over Scary Monsters. The last of his I ever really play.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Rich in Washington:

'tis Robert Fripp rippin' up the riffage.
Avatar 7:30pm Martinibomb:

Hello digger of moldy crates
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Martinibomb! How goes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Aitch:

Lordy, the Oils? Unexpected
Avatar 7:32pm Martinibomb:

@rich good! I sent you an email about helping me with that guide I been working on. I think I could really use a hand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Rich in Washington:

would be more than happy to!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Rich in Washington:

You're doing a lot for WFMU and Freeform DJs.
Avatar 7:37pm Mr Fab:

yes folks, Sheena's own Martinibomb, and Rich have been helping numerous other WFMU djs get their home studios set up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm melinda:

Hi Rich and all! Friday night in the jungle room, wooha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm melinda:

I love that Tom Waits song, sorry I missed it. So evocative.
Avatar 7:39pm coelacanth∅:

midnight oil should get more attention.
great band
Avatar 7:43pm Martinibomb:

Thanks Rich! Yep just needs some zesty Rich in Washington Spice. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Rich in Washington:

Groovy! I got nothing but time, unfortunately!
Avatar 7:47pm Mr Fab:

I use to love this back in the day. And I was a young teenager with zero interest in showtunes. How the good Capt made vintage Broadway sound New Wave is fairly miraculous.
Avatar 7:49pm Don-O:

I just survived 'Happy Talk'!
Avatar 7:51pm Don-O:

.....Hmmm. M albums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm Kat in Chicago:

Really the only thing I knew about the Kipper Kids before now is that the one with the German name is wed to Bette Midler. It's fun to actually hear them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Kat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm Rich in Washington:

Brian Routh was once married to Karen Finley. I could only imagine what couples night out was like for them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Kat in Chicago:

Hi Rich! Just tuned in. Yeah I just saw that on Wikipedia and that's... hard to imagine. I actually met Karen Finley during that period, she did a show at the club I was working for. I don't remember hubby being around but he could have been.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Rich in Washington:

What happened to Karen Finley? Does she still perform?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Kat in Chicago:

I think so? But i expect she's toned it down.
  8:13pm ARB:

I saw Karen Finley perform at Powells when i worked there, but that was in y2k
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Rich in Washington:

I don't think they were married long. I do know Brian spent the last years of his life married to a visual artist, uni professor named Patricia.
  8:14pm ARB:

And thanks for playing this, I've always wanted to hear more Kipper Kids bc of their cameo in The Forbidden Zone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm Rich in Washington:

ARB, you worked at Powell's? You were a Portlander? WHa?
Avatar 8:15pm Martinibomb:

I as you know am a massive fan of kipper kids
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm Kat in Chicago:

I have found in revisiting Karen Finley's work that it doesn't appeal much to me any more, althoughI still have some degree of respect for it. I wouldn't play her music at this point.
  8:16pm ARB:

I lived there from the tail end of 99 until Jan 2002 and worked at Powells while they were unionizing
Avatar 8:16pm Martinibomb:

ARB worked at Powells?! hah When was that?? My roomate in the late 90s worked there..
  8:16pm ARB:

And haven't held a respectable job since
Avatar 8:16pm Martinibomb:

^Good for you! Me neither
  8:19pm ARB:

Who was the roommate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm Kat in Chicago:

Joe McGasko did a DJ premium of steel drum music this year, I wonder if he has anything from "Pan Machine" on it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm Rich in Washington:

Not sure. I was surprised to have only recently heard of this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm Rich in Washington:

i didn't plan this, BTW. But it works(ish)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Kat in Chicago:

The "Same as it ever was" part is working
Avatar 8:24pm Martinibomb:

loving the set today cracking me up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm Rich in Washington:

They were slightly off pitch. I just went with it anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm Rich in Washington:

Good, MB! I aim to crack up!
Avatar 8:26pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 8:26pm Martinibomb:

Ebony steel band kicks arse.. right up my alley
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm Kat in Chicago:

Avatar 8:27pm Martinibomb:

Avatar 8:32pm Martinibomb:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm Rich in Washington:

Exactly, βrian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm Kat in Chicago:

Are they counting down to 2525 by single years? I'm gonna need another beer.
Avatar 8:47pm Mr Fab:

The Laibach guys' vox are like: Bela Lugosi's lost psych album?
  8:54pm ARB:

Thank you Rich! Had a blast listening to your show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm Kat in Chicago:
