"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

ModernB.. my BC name is Murphy.. in Bklyn (and elsewhere) everyone had a nickname - Flash, Big Ears, Yellowman, Jonnhy T - or worse.. I was lucky to keep my name - more or less - so I was Murphy or Morph as fellow G/Listener Earth would have it. Went through a heroin phase combined with Classical Greek studies - Morpheus y Lethe are rivers in the storiestexts{dreams and forgetting/death?]- I became Morphe' at that point.. 40 yeays clean.. Only beer and wine... and good food and hot sauce - no guns involved (a W&B) reference from Thursday... off to the food lines.. Happily, there is not yet a Soylent Green shelf...Be Safe... Morphe'

Really interesting story, @morphe'. I remember living in Carroll Gardens how everyone had a nickname: Vinny Ears, Frankie Robot. There was even a fella named Georgie Mafia, drove a hearse for a funeral home. Life can be stranger than fiction.

@Handy...a little snow today, but return to warm weather in a couple of days. Saw my first robin this week and before this morning no snow/ice on the ground, so all signs point to spring. Likely be able to fire up the pump for the well. I was laid off yesterday from my brewery job. Take out beer not taking off just yet apparently

@rory: Truly one of my regrets in life was not seeing the Surfers during their "classic" period... I had a few chances but I didn't go.

(But I did get to see the Minutemen and Hüsker Dü at the Channel in Boston - that kind of makes up for it)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Rory:

My brother was at one of the Stone Temple Pilots/Butthole Surfers shows back then. He like many others mind was blown seeing them(how could you go on after them?). I was only four when I listened to Independent Worm Saloon.

Managed to convince them I was a NY journalist wholeft his Press pass in the hotel .. chaos inside too - show got shut down after about 45 mins. A big arena.. Folks in the upper tiers were jumping into the lower tiers to get to
