Avatar 6:59pm LambdaCalculus:

How's everything?
Avatar 7:00pm hyde:

hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Gary:

Pretty good -- made it home remarkably early considering we sat in front of the Lincoln Tunnel for 30 mins
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Gary:

How are you? And, Hyde! How are you?
Avatar 7:02pm LambdaCalculus:

Settling in, waiting for the show, shuffling through my cassettes and looking for a good case for them all on eBay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm chresti:

Hey Bodegas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm WR:

I'm puzzled why you are focusing on this now. All ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Gary:

Chresti! WR! It's because The Beatles Again was first released on February 26, 1970, fifty years ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...their least important (Singles not yet on albums in the USA) - but great !
(Since the catalog went Digital w/ CDs - we've had the 'proper' UK versions - w/ non-album singles on Past Masters I & II)...
It was a Beatles endtimes Allen Klein cash in (their ripoff Manager that who was the real villain in their story - not Yoko) - & had no right to be as solid a collection as it was - w/ tunes from dif eras together...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Sincerely - your resident Beatletard...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Gary:

And then, as we know, Michael Jackson bought much of the Beatles catalog. And Sony bought it from his estate. So "Get Enough" -- think capitalism?
Avatar 7:07pm LambdaCalculus:

This cover is actually really nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm Gary:

RevRab! I honestly loved The Beatles Again as a kid
Avatar 7:07pm hyde:

@Gary, i'm doin' alright. gettin' by.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Right? Even the cover photos - from the very last pics all four together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Gary:

What is everyone doing tonight since there's no debate? Did you watch the debate last night?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Gary:

Yeah, I hadn't realized that was their last photo shoot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The Debates are a phony format. I'm good w/ the reviews...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm Doug Schulkind:

Our ears are watching Bodega Pop Live. Of course.
Avatar 7:09pm LambdaCalculus:

Bodega Pop >>>> any debate
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm Gary:

Ears watching you, Doug!
Avatar 7:10pm hyde:

i never watch debates, ever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm Gary:

But Hyde aren't you worried you might miss one of those "But, you forgot Poland" moments?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I don't think people quite take into account how much New Media have changed our information & political discourse. Anyhow - I know how I'm voting & what I think of them all, Thx...
Avatar 7:12pm hyde:

*blank eyed stare*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm Gary:

Haha, that's true, RevRab
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm Gary:

HAHAHA
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm Gary:

So, wait, if I do a show called "You Forgot Poland," you guys won't get the joke?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm chresti:

Haha
Avatar 7:15pm hyde:

naw, i remember that moment. just not afraid of missing anything that happens in the debates, personally!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

1. "Can't Buy Me Love" McCartney 2:19
2. "I Should Have Known Better" Lennon 2:39
3. "Paperback Writer" McCartney 2:14
4. "Rain" Lennon 2:58
5. "Lady Madonna" McCartney 2:14
6. "Revolution"
7. "Hey Jude" McCartney 7:06
8. "Old Brown Shoe" (George Harrison) Harrison 3:16
9. "Don't Let Me Down" Lennon 3:30
10. "The Ballad of John and Yoko"
Not a bad little set.

Blakes make it sound Princey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Gary:

I really wish Horace Andy had covered this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...which is to say - the band gave very good Single...
Wigkey says Jacko actually wrote 'Don't Stop'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Produced by Quincy Jones of course...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Gary:

Anyone see that Quincy Jones doc?
Avatar 7:25pm hyde:

the one by his daughter? i saw it. it was ok, not great.

Avatar 7:32pm LambdaCalculus:

I need to look in my records again; I think my mom had The Beatles Again.
Avatar 7:32pm hyde:

i somehow never had this Beatles album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wigkey : en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm coelacanth∅:

judging by that track listing you're talking about the "hey jude" album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm coelacanth∅:

...in the u.s. i'd say it wasn't the least important beatles album, as for years it was the only album with some of their greatest songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Gary:

Ceola-C! You're right of course, but even I as a kid had alla their singles
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm coelacanth∅:

(yellow submarine being the least important beatles album, OBVIOUSLY!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Gary:

NOOOOO, assertion denied!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm Gary:

Haha, Yellow Submarine was the first one I ever bought and it has trippy Northern Song, I can't downvote it to least!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm ParUbi:

AIGHHH this is good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm coelacanth∅:

aw c'mon!
1) it's only one side of an lp (the other side being George Martin soundtrack music)
2) 2 of the 6 songs are throwaways
3) one of the songs appears on magical mystery tour
...but yeah -northern song; it's all too much; and
hey bulldog i would not want to live without!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm Gary:

ParUbi!
Avatar 7:43pm tim abdellah:

Hey Bodegistas!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm Gary:

Tiiiiimmmm!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Gary:

Have you checked out that new Moroccan Tape blog on the block? We want Tim's TakeTM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm coelacanth∅:

...i didn't buy a lot of singles at that age. i didn't have much money and i learned young that you get a lot more for your money with albums -if you knew you'd like most or all of the album.
(which i was safe on with the beatles)
so i was very grateful for the hey jude album.
Avatar 7:46pm tim abdellah:

We had the "Hey Jude"/"The Beatles Again" album when I was growing up. Ballad of John and Yoko is worth the price of admission!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Name changed to 'Hey Jude' - yes.
'Yellow Sub' is 1/2 Psych Era Beatles : much the same sessions as Pepper
- & 1/2 George Martin's film score music for 'Yellow Sub'.
Yeah - that's weird.
But - I LOVE Martin's score for the film - but have yet to communicate w/ ANYONE who agrees - just people who feel ripped off by the album - which I get...
Mystery Tour wasn't originally an album - but - a Double E.P. in the UK - & the US album has non-film trax...the exception to the UK versions being the original & frankly best way to go for Albums... Put it w/ 'Yellow Sub' tax - & you get a nice addendum to Pepper from same Psych era...
I realized one day talking about 45 Singles - that I don't remember EVER buying a new one in my life! By the time I got into collecting - yeah - albums...There were hand-me-downs & 2nd hand singles around - but that didn't happen w/ the Fabs...
Avatar 7:47pm tim abdellah:

Re: new Moroccan Tapes site - yes! The more the merrier, and especially with me posting so infrequently these days. The site is a bit difficult to navigate, but there's some nice stuff there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ballad of J & Y is just John & Paul. Oddly enuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Gary:

I AGREE WITH YOU REVRAB
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Gary:

^That comment was re: the George Martin soundtrack music, it's so great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm coelacanth∅:

hell yeah!
and rain! and old brown shoe!! i should have known better...
all 3 easily in my top 20 favorite beatles tracks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Ike:

Meow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm Gary:

Ike!
Avatar 7:50pm tim abdellah:

@RevRab - have you heard the version of Ballad of J&Y on the new Abbey Road box set? It's an alternate take. The cool thing is that in the banter before the track begins, John sez something like "Are you ready Ringo"? and Paul replies something like "OK George"... Pretty cute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Sure. NonAlbum trax - Singles !
...Now all on 'Past Masters'...
In original UK versions - Beatles didn't like to put Singles on Albums. They were maximum value & productivity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm coelacanth∅:

it is excellent music, the yellow sub stuff; and i'm sure Evan Crankshaw agrees too...and lots of others of the wfmu persuasion.
- but i wouldn't buy an album just for that.
...glad to hear it now and then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

A cute bunch. Perhaps we forget how much they changed Humor & all kinds of attitudes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Gary:

When I bought Yellow Submarine -- again, my first ever Beatles purchase -- I was all like "What the HELL Beatles, didn't you write 'Don't Let Me Down'?!? How you gonna let me down with this one-sided LP?!?" etc.
Avatar 7:53pm tim abdellah:

It bugs me that if you go to those Past Masters tracks on Spotify, you can only get the stereo versions. I put a playlist together recently of Beatles singles, and could rarely find an original mono 45 mix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Gary:

But Northern Song, holy shit. And then that score just got its hooks into me over time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...stuff that didn't make it onto Pepper...but same sessions.
Beatles in Mono...well, this is a thing.
Of course - a lot of vintage stuff - the Mono mix is quite different !
Avatar 7:55pm tim abdellah:

Re: Yellow Submarine - "It's All Too Much" is sometimes my absolute favorite Beatles song of all time :)
  7:55pm ?:

I like this one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm chresti:

This is great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Gary:

All Too Much!!! Yeah, I forgot about that, and YES
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Too Much is as acid-fried as it gets.
George Harrison man.
Avatar 7:56pm tim abdellah:

YES!!
Avatar 7:57pm hyde:

I always pull that question mark thing when I switch to my phone so I can go down to the kitchen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Mono of 'Ticket To Ride' - wham.
Pepper in Mono - thicker & swirlier. Both heavier & more Psych. Stuff tends to get more polite you seperate elements...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Cmurtha:

Hello everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm coelacanth∅:

apparently Paul was telling Michael about the business and how that could be done and Jackson said " i'm gonna buy yours"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& Paul laughed 'yeah right'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Paul owns Buddy Holly...
Dave Clark of the Five owns himself: actually more savvy than the great Beatles...
Avatar 8:03pm tim abdellah:

Yeah - Paul also owns the entire Harold Arlen catalogue: Over the Rainbow, Get Happy, Stormy Weather...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Didn't know that tim. Could be worse...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm doctorjazz:

i jacked (i was gonna say "Jacko'd" but Jacko didn't buy Harrisongs) the full (?-8.15) version of all too much off youboob several years ago.
last i knew sony owned it so it may not be there any more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm Gary:

Wait, there's an eight-minute version of All Too Much?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well tim - it's an artistically impeccable roster...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm coelacanth∅:

yes, and the full revolution 1 as well; though i think that's been released now on the 50th aniversary white album box?
Avatar 8:12pm tim abdellah:

@revrab - not bad, eh?
@Gary - Whaaa?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm coelacanth∅:

Gary i can send it to you. sound quality's not great, a la youboob.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Gary:

Would love to hear it, yes!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm doctorjazz:

Revolution #1 is indeed on the 50th anniversary White Album box, of which I have a vinyl version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm Gary:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm doctorjazz:

All Too Much (couldn't resist)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm coelacanth∅:

Gary i don't know how to do that. the contact via wfmu doesn't have the means to attach a file, as far as i can tell.

The new Beatle box super treatments of albums w/ many discs & uber packaging are three figures each. Three figures I ain't got...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Gary:

Damn
Avatar 8:20pm tim abdellah:

They're all streamable on Spotify, though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Gary:

Great, now I gotta get a Spotify account
Avatar 8:21pm tim abdellah:

You can get a free account - you'll just get audio ads every so often
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm doctorjazz:

They ARE ridiculous...the main appeal is alternate takes, if you're into that sort of Beatles minutiae.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm Gary:

I just want someone to compile the extended versions of the trippy songs so I can "trip out"

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The packaging & everything - true they're not messing around... White Album includes Esher Demos - demos they did of most of all of it: bootlegged but this are supermastered from source - & so on & so on...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm Parq:

This James White track, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...for Pepper - George Martin's son Giles had access to many Stems: pre-final mix elements - since ultimately they only had four stinking tracks!
This is the controversial thing about them - the Remixes. What Martin Sr. would do now - or second guessing him ?? The Tech keeps shifting beneath our feet...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm Gary:

Parq! James White freaked me out in this movie about NYC that I saw in the 90s when I lived in Minneapolis? Or maybe it was the late 80s in San Francisco? And then I finally saw him in real life, live, at a WFMU record fair
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm coelacanth∅:

okay, done -i think! i had to convert the file type to aac -which i'm not happy about; but it's nearly 4X bigger than protonmail will allow and nearly 4X bigger than gobble will allow without "sharing with google drive" which...i don't know what that means but i wont do it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm Gary:

THANK YOU COEL-C

i might take you up on it, too, though it sounds difficult because of size...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm doctorjazz:

...also, there are no guarantees as to how long anything will be available for.
(ie the beach boys pet sounds box was there but now it's gone)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm Gary:

Damn that danged streaming!
Avatar 8:44pm tim abdellah:

@coel - Thx - I didn't know about the different audio quality. And yeah, no guarantees as to things remaining available.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm Gary:

Okay, this Rogério Duprat & Os Mutantes is my pick for all time best Lady Madonna
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Interesting. Album anniversary - & Fats Domino's B-Day. 'Lady Madonna' deffo a nod to Fats.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm doctorjazz:

Amazon just launched a streaming service, also supposed to have good audio quality. Now I'm using TIDAL, the Geek streaming services of choice (supposed to have best audio quality, at least until Amazon, if their promo stuff is true)
Avatar 8:47pm tim abdellah:

Ooh - happy bday Fats!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm Gary:

Today is also the 39th (?) anniversary of the Sex Pistols' Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks doc! i'll contact you at the end of the week if that's okay, so i'll be home and on my own internet service.
- i have (as well as 3-1/2 copies of vinyl) the original album on cd, so that's unnecessary. i just want all the beatlefreak goodies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Just pure delight how Mutantes got production sounds w/ no direct data on how people in UK or US did...
Avatar 8:48pm LambdaCalculus:

I like this cover as well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm Gary:

Or wait, 41st anniversary? It was released in 1979
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm doctorjazz:

Like Sidasai's Lady Madonna
Avatar 8:50pm tim abdellah:

Fats Domino also recorded a version of Lady Madonna
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm doctorjazz:

No prob, CC, might not be able to get to it until the weekend anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm doctorjazz:

What else would Bragg cover?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm Gary:

Tim, yes! I heard that one this week ... along with Elvis's and Dave Edmunds'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Lennon Libra weighing things. Words said it'll be alright - & the music said it wouldn't.
Avatar 8:55pm tim abdellah:

Count me out/in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

On Rev 1 Lennon says Out / In (& 'Live' performance of plain Rev)... I think he resolved to be Pacifist before long...

I'm here, but got to hit the grocer before it closes, so, I'll be listening in the car....

Night everyone! and sounds terrific, Ceola-C!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17am WR:

First, Gary, great show. You are a maestro of music programming. I heard most of the show while preparing and having family dinner but will be relistening a few times. Now skipping around for some parts I missed. One point that maybe you mentioned in your mic break but I missed, submundo has 13 recordings on bandcamp that are all free or pay what you want. I Like their description: "Submundo is a brazilian secret society which gathers every six (6) months to make experimental electronic music and barbecue from dusk till dawn."
