I don't listen to the contemporary country musics but saw some startlin' stats the other day.
"The studies revealed a 66 percent decline in the number of songs by women on the Yearend Airplay reports between 2000 and 2018, as well as significant disparity in the total spins (plays) accorded to songs by men and women — increasing from a 2 to 1 ratio in 2000 to 9.7 to 1 in 2018."

Avatar 10:16am Brian in UK:

@F16C my guess they are secretly Welsh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Doug Schulkind:

@Funky16Corners
Elbert Moguel specifically chose a name that could not be translated to mean anything.

Wikipedia:

"The group was initially called "Fuego" ("Fire") and later "Los Extraños" ("The Strangers"), but they often met with difficulties because there were already other groups with those names. Because of this, Moguel came up with the notorious "Strwck" name after deciding that he wanted to create a name that had no vowel letters, and therefore a word that wouldn't exist in any language and that wasn't already the name of any other group."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Phillippe Bastille:

Gina, live music every week is such a positive approach.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am Doug Schulkind:

The alto sax here with Steve Reid is the incandescent Arthur Blythe.

Doing some chair dancing at the library
  10:58am Listener Gregory:

That explains it (Blythe).
  10:58am Gina B:

Thank you, Brian! Seat of my pants, always, Doug! Hahaha
Avatar 11:00am Brian in UK:

Shocked and delighted to read that FMU is in the black. Let up keep it that way.
  11:02am Ramblin' Ray:

A song for out times methinks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Doug Schulkind:

In the black after more than 20 years of trying to clamber out of the hole of debt, Brian in UK. Thanks ENTIRELY to you and your fellow listener comrades.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Doug Schulkind:

Henry Threadgill on hubkapaphone here. Or, some say hubkaphone.
  11:05am Funky16Corners:

Is that like a CPAP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Doug Schulkind:

Yes, except Mr. Threadgill is fully compliant.
Avatar 11:07am Brian in UK:

Who was that masked patient, I'd like to take his blood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am doctorjazz:

Threadgill had his 75th birthday last week (2/15), Happy Belated Birthday, Henry!
Avatar 11:13am Brian in UK:

  11:16am Listener Gregory:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am dutchtheo:

WFMU: Sublime frequency
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Doug Schulkind:

Is this instrument a valiha? Doesn't quite sound like it to me. Although maybe this perform is just playing it differently from how I'm used to hearing one played.

Valiha: www.gettyimages.ca...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Doug Schulkind:

Hey, has anyone notice the new look of my playlist? WFMU is upgrading its overall playlist system, and I was forced to give up a variety of customizations that my playlist has boasted since 1995. Twenty five years is a pretty good run.
Avatar 11:27am Brian in UK:

Doug, you had a valiha playing bed music at one time, if memory serves.
Avatar 11:27am Brian in UK:

Playlist is COOL.

Avatar 11:35am Brian in UK:

Doug, that sounds like a perfume. Just add 'par homme' at the end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Jeff Golick:

New look is only subtly different, as far as I can tell (not far).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am WR:

Right? UM? the similarity to the Meters is striking.
Avatar 11:37am βrian:

Hmm, wild Bryce or rooty-poots?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Uncle Michael:

watching the playlist morph without refreshing is freaky
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am WR:

I usually do playlist on my android chrome phone and it is so very different I'm lost.
  11:39am Listener Gregory:

@Uncle Michael, Ah, there's no refresh! I had assumed that I was just having mini-seizures all that time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
Oh you're having mini-seizures alright. Spasms of absolutely delight.
Avatar 11:43am Brian in UK:

Doug, is there such a person as a WFMU historian/archivist?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Doug Schulkind:

We need a griot, Brian in UK! No, there isn't any one such person.
