All is silence here. Afternoon, all. I actually have to leave soon. Will check back in from home!
Avatar 12:12pm Sem:

I am led to believe, Mary, that today you will present that classic of symphonic music "The Wing Cycle".
Is that a ding thing, or what?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Greetings, whatchamadingers.

Ach, this sounds great. But I have to get home and release the hound. More from the other side of the tidal strait!
Avatar 12:20pm Mary Wing:

Hello Phillippe, Carmichael, spodiodi, John, Rich, Handy, Sem, and Ken!
Avatar 12:20pm Mary Wing:

Kenzo's tweaked the playlist again, eh?
Avatar 12:21pm Mary Wing:

The Wing Cycle will have to wait a bit, Sem, as it hasn't been written yet, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm brainiac:

A tweak here, a tweak there and before you know it all your teeth have fallen out.
Hi everybody

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Rich in Washington:

It looks the same but it refreshes automatically. No more flashing of the playlist end every minute or so. Changes and updates are instantaneous.
  12:25pm spodiodi:

it's 100% better

agree w Ike .. don't stop.

Avatar 12:33pm Mary Wing:

Hiya brainiac and Ike! Last week, I noticed that the playlist now adds the next song at the bottom in a very smooooooth fashion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey John how are you? Impatiently tapping my foot here in Annapolis waiting for the sun to come out.
Avatar 12:34pm Hubig Pie:

The new playlist is one smooth-smoothie
  12:35pm John from Florham park:

@Phillippe sun is out here and 46
  12:35pm spodiodi:

Phillippe, do you have a boat? I love Annapolis... spent some time there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Rich in Washington:

I like it because I like to quickly add tracks as I start them so that they're accurate in the accu but then go back and fill in all the little details as it's playing.
  12:37pm spodiodi:

Gary! I thought you were brushing your hair!
  12:37pm spodiodi:

You told me you were combing your hair*
Avatar 12:39pm Mary Wing:

Rich, I think that is a good idea; I wish all DJs would do that, heh.
  12:39pm spodiodi:

I like to imagine Gary Numan still has his moving chair from URGH, and uses it daily.
Avatar 12:40pm Mary Wing:

And enter the "set break" button *before* they go on mic, heh.
Avatar 12:40pm JakeGould:

@MaryWing: Yup! Seems like the WFMU playlists are finally using AJAX (Asynchronous) JavaScript so hey… Welcome to 2007, playlist!

That said, the way the comments scroll on a manual page reload if you are on a page with lots of comments is a wee bit disconcerting. Otherwise, hey…
Avatar 12:41pm Mary Wing:

I would happily go back to 2007 in a hot minute, Jake!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi a little one, just for fishing. We have a tiny little place on the water with a tiny little pier surrounded by tiny little fish. Need to get a little deeper to get something plate-worthy
Avatar 12:43pm JakeGould:

2007 was just about when I was able to pull my career out of an unwarrantably sh*thole from 2001 to 2006… So yeah! That’s the ticket!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I've found that with the new version, if your marking some text to copy/paste it, the refresh no longer comes in and undoes what you have marked.
  12:43pm spodiodi:

nice, Phillippe! hi to the little fishes :) beats being stuck on land all the time ;)
  12:45pm John from Florham park:

@mary wing I would go one step further and wish one DJ on Sunday would open up the chat on his show
Avatar 12:47pm Mary Wing:

Heh, NOT going to happen, John!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm doctorjazz:

Hi.
Good mash up!
  12:49pm John from Florham park:

@mary I know just venting
Avatar 12:51pm Mary Wing:

Howdy doctorjazz! Yeah, I found this last night and couldn't wait to share it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi I hear ya, lifelong dream to get here, even though the house is a dump -- we were the only bidders who weren't going to tear it down. I've been thinking about taking advantage of having those little fishies around and doing a local fish tank. we get little baby perch and anchovies whenever I put the bait trap in.
Avatar 12:58pm JakeGould:

@JohnfromFlorhamPark: Jenn Glones is at least honest about hating the chat/comment area. There are more than a few DJs that do have comments enabled but I know 100% positively they hate it.

Comments should be optional and maybe even deleted after a specific period of time so it’s just the playlist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Handy Haversack:

Back! Howdy, all.
  1:01pm John from Florham park:

@Jajegould I can see your point, on the main list they get the trolls and the people who whine about hearing the Beatles song for the 1000 time, I a a n guilty if that too
  1:02pm John from Florham park:

I mean jakegould sorry for the misspelling
  1:02pm John from Florham park:

Howdy Adan handy
  1:03pm John from Florham park:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm brainiac:

C'mon Jake, why obliterate all my dumb malapropisms? I say let them stand for eternity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Handy Haversack:

Fivever!

Honestly, I have not been on these boards nearly as long as all of you, but I see very few trolls.

Unless that means ... I am the troll?
  1:08pm John from Florham park:

I was a freshman in high school on that date
Avatar 1:09pm JakeGould:

@brainiac: A few DJs in the past would only keep comments as the show was on air and then nuke them afterwards. I don’t think these comments are more important than the playlist. I come here for the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm doctorjazz:

I have to say, don't love the lay out, as I post on an Android phone generally, and have to tap "to songs" or ;to comments" to view, unlike having them all in the same place. And the old iPad 3 I use to stream in the office seems to be missing the ;to comments" button. But, small issues if things generally work better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm brainiac:

Sure, I imagine we all are here for the music, but look-- here we are posting comments. It's a paradox!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Handy Haversack:

Monday evenings for Techtonic -- but that will be fun!
  1:12pm John from Florham park:

@Jakegould I think the cats are kept for legal reasons in case someone makes a comment that could get someone in trouble

Avatar 1:15pm Mary Wing:

Avatar 1:16pm Mary Wing:

Heh heh, I think the cats should be kept for legal reasons as well!

Avatar 1:22pm JakeGould:

@JohnfromFlorhamPark: “…kept for legal reasons…” I think you should take that nap, John.
  1:22pm John from Florham park:

@Handy and Mary I just spit out soda when I saw your comments thanks
  1:23pm John from Florham park:

@Jake your right
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Handy Haversack:

Now I have wasted soda on my already encumbered conscience!
Avatar 1:26pm JakeGould:

As someone who comments on the playlists all I have to say is I would lose no sleep if all the comments disappeared — like — one month after the show was broadcast. The core of the playlist *is* the playlist.
Avatar 1:26pm Hubig Pie:

My cats are both rescue strays , so I have no idea on their current legal status
Avatar 1:27pm Mary Wing:

Good morning Michael and Hubig!
Avatar 1:28pm JakeGould:

Legal cats. Can be bought off with a can of tuna. Fake news!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Phillippe Bastille:

Crap, we had to re-home our cat last year due to allergies. Does that mean I could be in legal trouble?

As far as comments go, I think a record of my narcissism isn't necessary, so I agree, they should not be kept.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm doctorjazz:

Hey John, no problem (it's better than what people do to my real name)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Michael 98145:

spring has sprung
Avatar 1:33pm Roberto:

Hello all! I jutht had a palate exthpander inthtalled tho i might thound a little funny.
Avatar 1:38pm Mary Wing:

Hi Roberto, which way did your palate expand?
Avatar 1:38pm JakeGould:

I bet he understands the difference between $5 and $20 wines now.
Avatar 1:40pm βrian:

Comments give context to the playlist. I'd hate to see 'em disappear, as I search through them from time to time.
Avatar 1:41pm JakeGould:

@βrian: Depends on the show. As I said, there are shows where the comments add utterly nothing to anything for any reason to anyone on any level.
Avatar 1:42pm Roberto:

it's projected to expand bilaterally.
Avatar 1:42pm Roberto:

Oopth I mean itth projected to exthpand bilaterally.
Avatar 1:43pm βrian:

That's impossible to predict.
Avatar 1:43pm Mary Wing:

Hi Brian, please accept my apologies for hiding the comments on my old playlists. I'll have to make time and hide a lot of them now.
Avatar 1:44pm βrian:

It's enough to make an archivist weep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm brainiac:

@JakeGould: But still, why delete them? I think the permanence of comments actually tends to mitigate any trolling that would otherwise occur.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Carmichael:

For someone who doesn't care about the comments, you sure comment a LOT.
  1:55pm spodiodi:

lol
  1:56pm spodiodi:

  1:57pm spodiodi:

without WFMU comments, once i've bitten the wax tadpole in the sky, there'd be little proof otherwise that i even existed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Handy Haversack:

We're sure *this* is legal, right?
  1:58pm spodiodi:

sounds like some herding is in order *rolls up sleeves*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Michael 98145:

"oh. his eyes. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY BABY?!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Phillippe Bastille:

This is the Internet: nothing's illegal. And you can delete that comment in case I'm wrong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Rich in Washington:

As someone who's done late night radio for years, with the occasional drunk/crazy/both caller, I appreciate the ability to comment with listeners. I've had people's comments inspire me to go grab something off my shelf which I might not otherwise not have played.
I sometimes go back and read them if I've been too busy frantically pulling records, entering the playlist, etc.
It's a point of engagement with listeners which I really appreciate and enjoy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Handy Haversack:

I think it hastened and deepened my engagement with WFMU. And led me to more shows. Like I found this one by following commenters I liked and respected over from the main stream.
  2:04pm spodiodi:

  2:07pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Handy Haversack:

Shoot, that reminds me: @Phillippe, I was going to tell you that for years we kept a seasonal aquarium of small local salt water fish from our local Superfund site and canoeing waters. Made a great part of our Ed Shed and was very cool to have local life on hand.

We did occasional "prisoner exchanges" with the creek and then freed them at the end of the summer since it was only a semienclosed shed.

Avatar looks good, @spodiodi!

  2:13pm spodiodi:

Avatar 2:13pm Mary Wing:

Cool, Henry! Where was the show?
  2:14pm spodiodi:

hear you, DJ MW -- i've been thinking of driving down to AZ the past few days (and i have no room to complain). if i make it, i'll seek out prisoners looking for a change for you too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Handy that sounds pretty cool. My biggest concerns are getting the right pH. We are mostly fresh water here, but only a quarter mile from here the bay is brackish. I also don't have room for a very big tank (it has to fit on a file cabinet), so I don't know if I can keep it viable. I think there are going to be a few fry who will have to run the risk for the greater good.
Avatar 2:16pm Mary Wing:

Ooh, Arizona, nice! I should take a trip there myself; will investigate possibilities.
  2:17pm spodiodi:

re: comments value -- lots learned here too (more than i can absorb) ... edutainment to the limit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Mary Notta lotta warmer here but I will gladly exchange the son who just slept through an audition for you. You clean up behind yourself in the kitchen, I assume.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Handy Haversack:

This is my only social media, too, @spodiodi. I used Google+ for very specific purposes when it existed. Tried keeping up with that community on Discord for a while, but I just don't have the instincts for it. I'm too much a Hurstian.

Mary Wing, this was a great choice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Webhamster Henry:

@MaryWing the show was here in Kingston, at UPAC, a restored old Vaudeville theatre.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Michael 98145:

Don't think i've ever heard this PG track, but makes perfect sense that he would have covered this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Phillippe Bastille:

For me, the comment board is kind of a lifeline. I work alone, don't share many interests with people my age (early 60s), and am a bit of an introvert. There are more people here I relate to in one place than anywhere I've physically resided, that's for sure.
Avatar 2:22pm Hubig Pie:

Micheal 9, don't miss the Lasithi plateau as well as the pungent local cheese
  2:25pm spodiodi:

cut from the same Hurstian cloth here, Handy. the internet sure went dream to nightmare pretty quickly. wish i had a nickel for every time i was called "chicken little", etc. -- similar circumstance on my end, Phillippe... hear you
Avatar 2:25pm Mary Wing:

I do clean up after myself in the kitchen, but I'm an introvert too, heh. And I have slept through important things as well, oy.

Tucson is far superior to PHX, in my humble opinion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm Handy Haversack:

Mary, that's true! The Omni was the basketball arena -- where like the Dead or U2 would play. Phish played much smaller venues in Atlanta when I was still there.

Saw the Pixies open for U2 at the Omni. R.E.M. twice on the Green tour ... and the SF/F/RPG con was there every year!

And the World of Sid and Marty Croft.

@spodi, they were rare and not much to worry about. I love the desert scape.

The Hunt Saboteurs are new to me, and this track is cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Michael 98145:

  2:46pm spodiodi:

cool , Carmichael. i'll stop worrying abou them. an old friend from Tucson who also rides a motorcycle had me worried (she made it sound like an all-too-frequent occurence that was sheer misery)
